CHEAP TRICK performing "Ain't That A Shame" (with Tommy Shaw of STYX on guest vocals and guitar) live at the Delaware State Fair in Harrington, Delaware on July 22nd, 2012.
When you were young and these bunch of (classic now) rock bands were coming out, you tend to like one than the other and think that they're in competition with each other. And now that you're older, your favorite bands are criscrossing and crossover to and play with each other and you lose count how many of them have played with one another.
Awesome to see Tommy jamming with cheap trick. He is one hell of a singer / guitar player. The stories that these guys could share from touring over the years.
Went to a Kiss concert in Oct '75 and Styx opened for them. Styx came on and I looked at my friend and said "who's the kid on stage playing guitar?" Tommy had just joined the band. I know the official records say he joined Styx in December of that year, but he was there with them in that Oct show. Great musician!!
My first non parent concert was KISS, opened by Cheap Trick. Oddly enough, Trick split the tour with Styx. That was 1977, same summer as Star Wars and Frampton Comes Alive owned the airwaves.
I heard Tommy getting interviewed on W.R.I.F radio in Detroit. They took questions and some women asked him how he hits the high notes still. He answered " Thong underwear 2 sizes too small" I laughed the whole night thinking of that
Before he was in Cheap Trick Rick Neilson was the brains behind the Grim Reapers in Rockford, Illinois. They were the BEST. LIVE MUSIC EVERY WEEKEND. We had so many good bands that played after high school football and basketball games. Battle of the bands….it was the very best time to be a teenager.
Disagree, Shaw was good. Hey, I was there for Cheap Trick and not really a Styx fan. But I paid for my ticket and decided to stick around for Styx and surprised myself that I enjoyed Styx quite a bit !
I know people who saw Tommy around Mishawaka with his Datsun Z. I worked for a moving company that moved his Baby Grand piano. I never saw him personally.
Really? At 2:12 Rick grips his pick with a nostril, and...I'm not kidding...flips it. Really flips it. And I didn't think I could be more impressed with Cheap Trick as a live band.
Oh my God this is absolutely fucking brilliant yes Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander made Cheap Trick fucking brilliant no question about that guys🇭🇲🇮🇱🇧🇲🇨🇦🇸🇭🇬🇧🇸🇭🇦🇩🇮🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇫🇮🇺🇸🇺🇲🇯🇪🇯🇪🎆🇯🇲🇿🇦🎆🍰🇿🇦🇿🇦♾️🕎🇬🇪🇫🇮💟🇦🇩🇮🇪🏴🇸🇭🇨🇦🎇💐 happy birthday 🎂🎉 to you Robin Zander you amaze me with your amazing voice you fucking kicks major ass dude and Tom Peterssson
Arrgh, I was finally gonna see these guys ,& ZZ top in the same show , then covid shut everything down about a week before . Then dusty Hill passed away
My father in law played with Tommy in his high school years.. and my mother in law dated Robbin back in the day. 🤣 my father in law seems jealous about this fact cause I once played the flame at a party and I was told to turn it off🤭
Saw Cheap Trick in 78 I think. Shooting star opened for them. I never heard of them but they blew cheap trick away. Cheap Trick was so loud u couldn't tell what song the were playing. Trick opened for boston several years ago. Sounded much better.
why the hell would you bring another frontman on stage, when you already have the greatest frontman IN THE WORLD IN YOUR BAND? And his guitar is so low in the mix, what's the point? Because Cheap Trick is one of my all time favorite bands since I'm 11..I'll give em a pass for this one. Ain't that a shame is right...for bringing Tommy Shaw up there!
Maybe because Styx is still headlining and selling out large venues while Cheap Trick can’t. Also the guys in Cheap Trick, especially Mr I’m the Guitar God are assholes. I was on a flight for business where they bought all the seats in business class so they wouldn’t have to sit near anyone. They wouldn’t speak to anyone or acknowledge anyone and were dicks to the flight attendants. This was about 10 years ago. That’s when I lost respect for them. I’ve flown on flights with other musicians they were nice and everyone always respected their privacy.
Know what you mean, I could never get into Styxs style when there were so many other good bands then. Dennis DeYoung did to Styx what Phil Collins did to Genisis ( after Peter Gabriel left). Going pop ruined them both for me, although Phil was a good drummer, his pop sensibilities ruined Genisis for me.
