I think that using the electronic version adapters, (forget the AF reliability ) at least the aperture control is automatic. With this mechanical cheap versions the manual focus control (focus peaking or zoom) is working with the final aperture selected in the adapter (stopped down), the camera can´t read the aperture value (exposure and EXIF) or allow a direct aperture control from the camera dials.

Super useful video JUST what i was looking for. You even finish talking about fully electronic adapters and i was thinking "damn now shes gonna only talk about electronic like everybody else" and back to the one i was looking for. The afforable one, cuz i only have 1 lens that i want to adapt for stills. I also have (and love) the sony a7iii This video was made for me. Thank you! Also nice video, im trying to do youtube (maybe this week upload my first video) and the editing of your video was on point. Cheers from Mexico :p

I think they should attach fine, as long as the lens mount type is the same! And being that the aperture is manual, I don't see a problem there either. Hope this helped a little.

Yes it does work well. I use all of my old Nikkor Ai, Ais, pre-Ai lenses with it. Unfortunately there’s no way to ever be able to capture the Exif data, but you get to use those old gems

Nikkor AF-P lenses have purely electronic focus. Even "manual" focus requires power from the host camera; as you experienced, the focus ring doesn't do anything mechanically inside the lens. That's why the focus was locked while using the adapter. It would be the same as trying to focus the lens with the camera turned off. The other two lenses, even though they're auto-focus, turning the focus ring mechanically moves focus elements in the lens. Those lenses mounted on a DSLR, you would actually see the focus change in the optical viewfinder even with the camera turned off. So you need some kind of _mechanical_ focus, either AF-S, AF-D (the original Nikon screw-driven AF), or old-school manual focus, to work with an adapter like this. I like how you explain the various adapters simply, but without dumbing it down. Are you planning on trying any electronic Nikkor -> Sony adapters?

Hi, I can buy a Nikon-Sony adapter. Unfortunately the regulation of aperture is damaged. Can I still use such an adapter normally for the F lens, in which there is a factory aperture regulation?

Can I use sigma art lens (prime) Nikon mount to a Sony mirrorless a6500 or a73, does it support AF, and continius subject tracking in video?

I would just do some research and find a full feature, compatible adapter. The adapter I am featuring does NOT support AF or tracking, and chances are you are going to have a hard time finding an adapter that supports all the camera features for cheap. At that point, I may recommend trading in for a Sony lens. Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve just got a standard one for the Nikon F Mounts and hoping it should be alright. The reason being I’ve just bought the Sony A7 iii but only with the kit lens. So going to use some of my Nikon glass for now

@@iheartmissyhiggins01 Hi Travis. It worked well with my manual lenses but did not work at all with my lenses with auto focus. Must have been something to do with the electrics but gave me pitch black images. You cant adjust the aperture manually with my mechanical lenses so that could have been the problem

Your camera is going to do most of the metering. I would recommend setting some of the features to auto, such as the ISO. You could also meter with the camera in manual and then adjust settings accordingly.

Thanks for the questions. This is for the FE (full frame) Sony cameras. Search the brand though and you will likely find a version that is for the crop sensor Sonys.

There is a fifth type of adapter, it is basically the first type of adapter but with helical thread that can make it extend a little bit for maybe 22mm or so to gain macro capability, a 50mm lens with 0.15x macro reproduction capability on it with full extension may gain roughly 0.59x macro reproduction.

I must exist in an alternative universe because every modern Nikon VR lens I've tried to use with my Sony A7RIII, via the Metabones or Commlite adapters, has yielded utter, unusable failure in an autofocus mode. Dumb adapters work well if auto-focus doesn't matter.
