Checking Valve Clearance on Husqvarna YTH21K42

I'm doing some more spring readiness checks on the Husqvarna YTH21K42 Lawn Tractor.
In this video I want to check the valve clearance. There is a Kohler Courage 21 HP engine in this tractor and they are prone to have valve cover oil leaks and valve setting issues.
When I check the valves I'm not disappointed with the settings and the engine sure looks to be running good and not burning too rich or lean.
I examine the spark plug and it looks just fine too. Then I do a little chin wagging about cheap off shore plugs versus known brand name plugs and give my thoughts on the topic.
Let me know in the comments if you think I should have adjusted these valves.
Happy Canada Day and also Happy 4th of July too.
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the video. Please 'thumbs up' me and leave me some comments. And if you haven't done so already, please consider 'subscribing' to my channel. It sure helps my videos get noticed and my channel grow.
I hope you all have a great week.
We'll talk to yas ...

Hi Mike 👋, Thank you for the update on Nannie. I am pleased to hear she is doing ok after the hip operation. their valve covers are easily bent when you remove them , but if the gauge slid in and had a bit grip, they should be fine 👍
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop Месяц назад
How's she goin'? Thanks Neville. There wasn't much drag on the gauge when I checked the valves, but I'm thinking, the engine was stone cold and with the number of hours on it, having the valves on the loose side might be better than having them too tight. The engine is working and burning so well, I hated to make an adjustment just for the sake of making an adjustment if you know what I mean. Thanks for watching and I hope you are still progressing too Neville. Take 'er easy!!

Glad to hear about the update on Nannie. I will sure continue to pray for her and you to. I always check my valves on anything I'm working on with the engine warm. Yours will probably be ok but you might want to warm the engine up and check them again when you change the gasket. Enjoyed the video and I'll see you on the next one.

How's she goin'? Thanks Dean. I figured with the amount of hours on the engine and with it being cold, leaving them loose was a good plan. It didn't make sense to me to make an adjustment on the valves just for the sake of making an adjustment when the engine is running so well. Take 'er easy!!

Awesome G《☆》Good to hear Nannie is making progress. Probably a wise decision to let the valve clearance ride for now. Some engines can develop mushroomed valve stems with excessive clearance. That may be a thing of the past✌🏼😎☯️

Good evening Mike. Excellent idea to check the valves as part of your regular maintenance. The clearances may be ok for a bit but setting the valve clearance to the mid range number on each valve would be better than leaving them a little loose. Once they are loose things can go bad much quicker. Have a good one!

How's she goin'? That's interesting that you mentioned the generator Dean. Last winter, during one of the many power outages we had, the battery on the generator was dead and I had to pull start it. I made a note then to replace the battery in the spring and also to do a complete maintenance overall on the unit. But then Janet's surgery was scheduled and now I'm in the middle of her recovery and don't have any time for getting to the shop. Last weekend we had a power outage and had to run the generator again. So I need to make the maintenance on it a top priority as it is more important to us than even the Massey Ferguson!!
