I have owned all three. My favorite is the soft mouse pad, because I play outdoors at my beach park often, where it can be quite windy and the board does not flap up from the wind. Plus, having the extra thickness underneath, makes it more sturdy and plyable on a picnic table. This, along with triple weighted pieces, are a perfect match for outdoor chess.
You failed to mention that the silicone board is prone to collecting dust. Fine particles always seem to attach to it. Additionally it doesn't "play" as nicely because the pieces tend to stick to the board. You can't smoothly slide pieces from one square to another. I own one and always keep it in my bag in case it's needed, but I recognize its deficiencies.
It cleans okay, I guess. As far as the sticking is concerned, I would say it's primarily when trying to slide them. It's an okay board to have because it's easy to carry in a chess bag, but I'll almost always end up using my opponents equipment when the option arises.
Spot on. This silicon board is nice but is useless for blitz. I have one and gave up on it because the pieces stuck to it too much, making rapid play impossible. I now use a mousepad board, which is far superior, IMO.
Planning on getting a vinyl one, and gluing it to a wooden plate, then buy some high quality weighted pieces. Then for school, a mouse pad board with some big pieces(not the highest quality tho)
@@GarageDwellerPat I have 3 boards and 1 set of pieces. So 2 of the boards were stored for a while. . The corners are actually able to take down the rooks, and the pieces are on the heavy side. I event went as far as ironing the boards from the bottom. It helped a little, but it still dont lie flat at all.
Sorry, The Soft mouse pad board is my favorite, the sturdiness is better, lays flat and adds a nice feel of cushion! silicone collects dirt and the mouse pad totally cleans and is plays better when using weighted chess pieces!
I received the same silicone board shown by home delivery, folded the way shown in this video. But it has retained the folds and does not lay flat. I tried letting it sit in the sun for a few hours yesterday, then I squashed it flat under a big heavy wooden board with a few heavy books on top overnight. But the waves at the folds are still there when I roll it out. Does anyone know a great way to flatten a silicone board? I have had good luck with vinyl boards letting them sit in the sun, but this doesn't seem to work for silicone.
Try using a hair dryer on the low power warm setting, warming up the areas with the creases. Just be careful not to overheat it as that can cause some deformation. Otherwise, that ought to clear it up. Let me know how it works out, I just purchased a mousepad board and I like that, it's not to hard to clean, a wet wipe takes off most troublesome stuff and the rubberized bottom is completely spillproof. I'm considering getting a silicone board so I'd like to hear your opinion on them.
Let me see if I understood this correctly - silicone board is sort of sticky, meaning - you can't slide pieces on it. What about the other two: can you slide pieces well on vinyl and mousepad boards (I'm particularly interested in mousepad boards since I don't like the "wrinkliness"/curliness of basic PVC/vinyl boards when layed down)?
Thanks looking at your store- so mouse pad have normal and thin version- question: hOw’s the feel playing on normal mouse pad - I worry the piece will be wobbly due to soft base? Aside from thickness, What other deciding factor on normal mouse pad vs thin version?
no u can also slid them 9n mousepad and u can have better designs on it after all vinyl is not a board u. ant play on ir bcs it dont lyes completely flat and bat rolled edges
@@divijgupta5029 The downside of Vinyl is you have to flatten it manually but I have 2 mousepad boards and the sliding part is very different. Still prefer the vinyl
These boards have many advantages over wood or stone boards. They do not, however, make as a satisfying "Thump" when pieces are moved as the wood ones. May or may not influence your purchase satisfaction. Solution? Get both.
pieces are of plastic and i will recomend to buy silicon or miuspad and buy wooden pieces they are much cheaper and durable and a bit heavy or go with rubber bieces light weight but extremely durable
We are here , this is a way my friends for what ugunda has provided this is as far as I can go goodbye and have a compass for the way isn't always the way mwah the wayild is calling for rightfully my sleep.
You shouldn't fold any vinyl boards. They will have permanent creases if you do that. They can be rolled or stored flat. That also applies to mousepad boards; they shouldn't be folded.
