my chevy traverse has 285k miles. timing chains were done at 240k by previous owner. her dad owned a shop. was very well taken care of. i’m having p0014, p0016, and p0017. i was told to do spark plugs and coils. the rpm’s bounce up and down slightly. no rattling besides the fuel injectors. car shakes pretty rough, drives fine though. kind of stuck in the middle. any advice? i love the car and just got it yesterday knowing it needed work. bought it for 500 bucks.
@@camaromodschannel have done several ecotec 2.2 timing chains and they were a pain in the ass. But all went well. This looks absolutely doable! Doing it in a 2010 Camaro on Monday. I do have a question. I am able to access both cloyes and melling kits, I want to go with cloyes because it's USA made, Melling is as well but I believe they have plants in the UK and Mexico. I'd like to keep it "local" what would you recommend between the two? I've always used cloyes in the past but am not familiar with this application. Some vehicles just like what they like! lThanks again for an awesome video. Led me, and I'm sure many others in the right direction !
I have Gmc Acadia with only P0017 code for bank 1 . It did have P0017 and P0008 code but i replace one cam position sensor on bank 1 and P0008 is gone but P0017 is there. Engine runs fine with out any retelling or noise. It all star after i put lucas engine oil stop leak maybe after 3 weeks i get P0017 and P008 code . I always replace oil at 3500 miles and car have 156.000 miles. Is there anything else i could try to replace before i will need timing chain change replacement? How about crankshaft position sensor?
Yes, you could try that, the 3.6 engine has a problem with timming chains on those engines. I have 155,000 on my cadillac sts. So it won't be long now. I would drive every mile you can get out of it. When olit starts making a rattling noise time to park it and change the timming chains or get another car. Thanks
My 09' Acadia just got the p0008 code twice in the same day but havent experienced any rattling or anything considerable. I just changed my oil with Royal Purple thinking its one of the best oil's out there and then this code shows up a month later. No code the other day after that and actually got into a road rage incident the one day and beat the crap out of it chasing the guy for about 8 miles and no code so when exactly is it panic time with these engines? Could it in fact just be a bad cam or crank sensor(s)? And yes, after the road rage thing, I shook my head in discust at myself hoping I didnt decrease the life of the issue cause I dont have hundreds of bucks laying in my bank account 🙄, anyway any feed back would be appreciated
Have 2007 Cadillac sts have p0017 and p0017 car has loss power but runs smooth burning alot of gas the light use to come on then go off but now stays on I was told try vvt selenoid but think I should try cam sensor what do u think
Yes, that code is for a cam position sensor, for the exhaust, outside ones, yes you can try a new one and see if the code goes away, I would disconnect the battery while you are working on it will clear the codes, if this doesn't work may be a timming chains. How many miles you have on it? Thanks
With these engines the timing chains are not the problem its the tensioner guides that go bad or get worn, I mean, this job sucks, Im saving up over a grand to get everything and replacing it all, you dont want to do this job and just replace the timing chains, it is a pain in the ass so if you are gonna do it, replace everything. And a lot of you on here are sayin "Timing Chain," there are essentially 3 timing chains on this pos engine not 1.
Yes, you have to replace it all, possibly even a cam phasers, be sure you check them. This is the only way to do it. My daily driver 2008 cadillac sts has over 150k and could need this job at any time. But I also have another engine with only 66k on it. May just go another engine. But I change oil at 3-4 k miles Thanks.
My garage told me this engine has 2 reluctor Wheels and they think one wheel has slipped causing a timing issue on the left Bank and said they have to remove my engine to investigate 🙄
He said if you drive with a broke timing chain it could damage heads pistons gaskets and valves…. am asking how can you tell before doing a timing job if their damaged
You can go by the engine codes, your crank and camshaft will be out of alignment. And it will be less power or reduced power. Yes it will damage your engine if you drive it that way. Is it making excessive noise when running? Thanks
@@camaromodschannel 114k it’s a start no crank before it was stolen yes I was then it was recovered. Been sitting for a while because I thought the engine was locked up originally
@@camaromodschannel ok I understand!! What about the oil pump? There’s no videos on how to do it. Is it the same process as a LS oil pump in these cars? I bought a 2010 CAMARO LT for $2000 and they suspect a rod knock, but from my research I suspect the timing chain and I was going to change the oil pump, rod bearings, timing chains and cam phasers while I’m there.
