No need to remove the intake. Just use a wrench. I used a 10mm offset wrench, even though I had an actual E12 wrench too, the 10mm offset one worked a little better - was easier to get it on in a limited space. That bolt is aluminum and it's not very tight, so you will not round it. It comes off very easy. The whole job took me less than this video - only 3 bolts and a connector. Don't forget to disconnect the battery too - there's a starter and an alternator near the knock sensor, so you don't want to short anything accidentally. Don't tighten those bolts too tight when you put it back together - they can be fragile.

I can confirm that you DO NOT NEED to remove the intake to switch out the knock sensor. Removing the intake is a massive waste of time and could possibly introduce new problems if you don't get everything back together correctly.
@ralphrussell2883
@ralphrussell2883 11 месяцев назад
I agree. I just did this using an E12 wrench. If you have big hands, it's a pain to get the bolt back in to mount the new sensor but it's doable. That said, I love these guys videos on everything you need to do on your Cruze. Thanks for taking the time to post these.

I just changed a knock sensor on my wife's 2013 Chevy Cruz. I looked under the car and found the Knock Sensor but since I am not a mechanic so I decide not to start taking things apart until I knew I had the time to follow your directions. I couldn't get to it until the following weekend. In that time I kept thinking about your statement that some people take off the bolt with vice grips or channel locks. It occurred to me that if they get those tools up in there why couldn't just use a regular crescent wrench. There was really no room to leverage a regular crescent wrench loosen the bolt. Then the thought came to me that I could probably use a Ratcheting Box Wrench. So used a 3/8 ratcheting box wrench and had the bold off in laterally 10 seconds. So that saved me hours of work I probably would have screwed up. Not to mention that I could have done that the week before. Just thought you should know.

It's absolutely mind blowing that you would do all that work for 1 bolt when a wrench would be less trouble. This is a 40 minute video. I could go to the parts store, get an appropriate torx wrench, come back and take out that bolt without having to do any of that work. That's exactly what I'm going to do. I only came here to find the location of the knock sensor, so you did help me there and I thank you for that, but this is waaaay too much work for a $30 part.

Easy fix , just did my sons Chevy Cruze , socket and extension . You can reach it from the top. The only thing is to not let the bolt drop when removing, like I did😳, no big deal .Then discount plug, reinstalling was a bit tricky to line up bolt with hole, extra hand was nice to have. Went back together pretty easily. This video is dumb talking about,draining coolant, taking off fuel line ,possible fire, crazy ,not necessary . Thank you guys for the comments because initially I thought it was a hard job ,bur after someone commented about how ots not hard,I looked closer and said,,what the heck is he thinking.

I just did this repair on a 2013 Chevy Sonic, but I didn't remove ANYTHING from the engine. At 2:29 in the video, I removed those 2 screws holding a black bracket that he said you need to loosen. Behind that bracket is the knock sensor as mentioned in the video. I used a multi-point box end wrench to remove the bracket and the knock sensor. An e-torx socket will not fit in that space as he said in the video to remove the knock sensor, but a box end wrench will. The sensor was not very tight and it came out no problem! I was done in about 15 minutes max.

Just changed it out in 30 mins using a 3/8 wrench to get off the sensor and e10 socket for the bracket bolt. Just had to remove small bracket with 2 e10 bolts first which was very easy. A more experienced DIYer could do this in 15 minutes.

This is a great video that at least shows where exactly the part in question is and how to replace it. I'm happy to skip to the relevant parts for that info. It's also nice to see that someone other than me overcomplicates a problem (more times than I care to admit).

Hey, I dont know if you care anymore seeing as your comment was a year ago, but my car started using more gas and misfiring a little then the check engine light came on. I checked and it was this sensor. It's for proper ignition kinda. But it should have your car be a little less wasteful and not jerky.

I'm sorry, I did battery install on an assembly line for a hot minute! That battery will not and can not hurt you nor will it work as long as the negative, or black cable, is off the battery. The negative cable should always come off first and go on last. The only way you'll get hurt is if you create a "to ground" connection across that positive terminal. That will only occur if the ground is connected. I would do a demonstration for the new guys; I'd hook up only the positive cable and when I would tighten it up with my wrench, I'd hit that wrench on the frame and act like it shocked me! It was freaking hilarious!

Ladies and gentlemen Stop! this is way to much work for practically nothing. Here's what to do.step One: put you car in Ramps and secure it, step 2: disconnect the battery and let the car kool down. Step 3 go under that car and reach behind the motor depending on your model size of screw varies. Location underneath (38:51). Step 4: remove and replace. I recommend OE, ACDelco or better!. It may be a bit different but it worked. Use a small wrench with an extender to reach it you've have barely enough space to do this. (i drive a 2018 Chevy Cruze LS 1.4 engine.)
