I saw another RU-vidr I watch post this game but I thought “I want to wait till the librarian plays it first”. Opened my phone 5 minutes later then there it was lol
The twist that the sister was the one that asked the "Mister" to kidnap her was actually pretty clever. It really shows the levels of mental trauma that parent abuse might do to a child.
So that "Miser" was Sarao. The first cutscene in the game is when he murdered his mom. You find her diary about locking him in there and then you find her dead body.
“This game is making me nostalgic for a time in my life that didn’t happen and the real version I hated.” Aw, that made me sad. Hopefully you can one day look back at your current self and be nostalgic for it!
God I love CA games. They've got this specific style in their slight jankiness and unevenness. I love how a lot of these horrible situations could really happen, and it's so genuinely terrifying to think about. We love you, Chilla.
The warning for flashing lights and jumpscares wasn't enough, nothing warned me of how depressing this was gonna be. The ghost of the attic is such a perfect moment to tie it all down, is where you find one of the most important characters of the whole story, it's the root of all evil, a tormenting presence even in death, the abusive mother that started it all and was responsible in creating this deeply mentally unstable man, a man who your own sister will come to "betray" you for, because she seem to resonate with him for having a similarly troubled past, that's maybe why she went to him in the first place, as she seems him as someone willing to take care of them just like she was willing to protect the main character in the ausence of a caring mother.
This one was a pretty slow burn and painfully real at first, but man, once it kicked off it REALLY kicked off. Not too many jumpscares to the point they become stale, the models look better in this one than their older games and it shows that they're improving a lot in such a short time. I just love the story of this one, and the themes. Tackling heavy stuff like domestic child abuse, a thing that does happen a lot irl. This and Parasocial were great, especially Parasocial.
I took it to be a translation thing at first, and it might still be, but calling it The Kidnap instead of kidnapping or kidnapper feels like it fits as well: this is the story of the whole thing from all angles.
With this game and the last Chilla's Art game, I honestly find these as some of the more disturbing games I've seen. It's not like some spooky Halloween monster but what could easily be real life scenarios.I always found that real life can be way more terrifying than any spooky monster.
No matter where I go, The Librarian's insight into Chilla's Art games is always the best for me. Also, the voice actor for the Mom is absolutely top notch. I could feel the verbal @buse inflicted on me second hand.
Abandonment issues and mom issues make this a difficult watch for me, but Librarian's commentary make it a little easier ((: I also liked the hidden clown spooks a lot
