For the Chinese people it's never about what their government called or what they say, it's all about what they do so that their people can live a better life! Hongkong has been part of China for thousands of years. England demanded an entry port in China in the negotiations to end the opium war and China leased hongkong island for 100 years. It was given back just before the turn of the 21st century not because England was so kind to China but because of the end of the lease period. People who know the history well understand perfectly why Hongkong must abide by the law of China. Those youngsters who protested violently were influenced by the usa and uk, and they did not represent the Hongkong population.

Born in Canada, and I have lived through decades of "Red China is Bad" and only after finally visiting the "mainland" in 2007-2009 was I given a wide-eyed wake up seeing all the negative lies I learned in the West (especially, from the USA) were all false! I expected to see a very backwards country with "primitive" ugly urban cities with "ugly crude automobiles built by communists" and everyone wearing drab frumpy "communist clothes" ... it was the opposite! ... extremely modern and diverse ...even back 12 years ago when they still had "extreme poverty" not yet eradicated! I even enjoyed plenty of clear "blue sky days" even if it wasn't every day! prior to my "mainland" visit, I was already familiar with HK (under British governance) in the late 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, all the way to past "handover" (UK back to China-PRC) to 2001+ till now (so I can see how China-PRC improved HK itself immensely) that was barely a glimpse of what greater changes occurred in the mainland itself! I was shocked and stunned and felt betrayed by those in the West I got used to trusting and believing not any more! China-PRC is another world altogether, quite advanced and modern in a "good way", far more than what I experience here in the West (Canada, USA, UK, EU, Europe, SE Asia, East Asia), especially, now in 2021!

Wow, this caller needs to widen his source of information. I am from S.E.Asia, and we definitely know the truth and the real situation over here. HK is part of China and it is not in China's interest to destroy HK. Political ideologies and form of government may differ but the at the end of the day, China want HK to be successful.
The original Silk Road existed for almost 2,000 years ( 2nd century BCE to the 18th century CE) and China didn't try to take over any countries as opposed to just having trade with them. Of course, Chinese are very industrious and will eventually own all the silver (money) due to their hard work and craftsmanship (originally silk and porcelain).

China should be more humble and more peace loving, instead of always threatening the rest with economic punishments. And yes I have friend who are Tibetan and they call themselves Chinese. You probably have no idea where the Uighurs race comes from. It's a mixed race, I'll let you figure out what they are to understand why they love being part of China. Most Vietnamese are Communists as well, only few South Vietnamese who lost the civil war hates China. Go to Vietnam and learn their history and you will be straighten out.
