That depends, because if he fails it just actually proves the point he was in the weak east most of his career. If he gets knocked out by teams other then Houston or GS it also proves he wasn't as good as people believe. When you're the number one player in a Conference and play with the 3rd and 10th best player in the conference for most of your Finals run you should always make it to the finals.

If you judge a superhero by the level of the super villains they face, Batman has done crazy things. He took a punch from Mongol like it was nothing. He took out the Justice League by himself. I believe it's a favor to the Lakers and the NBA and their helping him build his brand. So much to gain on both sides. Also this helps his kids. This isn't about basketball. Lance is on the team, Kobe consults with the team, two team mates who do real battles, Lavar Ball and his mouth and Luke Walton. No pressure to be in the finals either. People like Woj knew he was going there as did Adam Silver. TV contact the Lakers have, local vendors, excitement. All that, but basketball.
