Citizen Promaster NY0040 - now upgraded with new movement

The upgraded 8204 movement on this NY0040-17L is a welcome upgrade over the older 8000 series ancient workhorse.
I must admit that this design is another one of those hate-or-love thing.
Ultimately, this is a nice entry-level diver for those who don’t wish to spend too much on a practical watch.

I've owned my NY40 for 15 years now. My only auto that hasn't given up. 6 Seikos, all kaput. 😮

Definately wears more like a 40mm. Even 6.5" wrist can get away with this. Such an underrated watch, I keep expecting the price to 4x or be discontinued as it makes so many of Citizen's other models look expensive by comparison.

I agree with you on the crystal, I don't dive so sapphire crystal would be ideal for me at the very least.

Yea man. I think 90% of diver watch collectors are desk divers. But I guess there’s a watch for everyone.

I've worn mine for over 6 months for everything, office, adventure, beach, travel, sports etc not baby'd it at all and still not a single mark on the crystal. Whatever Citizen are putting in these (hardlex?) It's ok.

The reference for this watch is NY0040-17L. The movement got an upgrade in around 2019. The 8204 offers hacking as opposed to the previous 8203 calibre.
