In this fourth instalment, I do my best to describe what this car is like to live with every day. This includes what went wrong, what was serviced, how much it was to fix them and other little fragments of info that might be interesting.

Thanks for this series... Its the best I've seen Deffor need to push it a bit on the forums!. I think I would agree with almost all you said apart from two things. 1.The 2.0 hdi 2013 165BHP in its various forms is a much better engine.. & just as economical I 47mpg on mixed suburban milage with runs to the coast from Kingston area. 52mpg on runs @70ph =2000rpm in cruise on a run to Portsmouth on the A3. My best ever on my previous mk2 2.0 was 66mpg on a long run. Second thing I would only by the exclusive. provided the suspension is properly maintained its much more comfortable. Finally... Dont forget your cambelt! if you haven't changed it you should! Great Vid.

Thank you. Oh, I don't disagree that the 2.0 in any of its incarnations is a better engine, apologies if I led you to believe otherwise. However, I'm not sold on higher trim levels in the slightest. I like not having satnav and having more storage, and no full leather seats, and no power tailgate. But that's me, I'm glad this tiny little citroen c5 community is so diverse and accepting. Have a very happy new year!

I've owned my 2008 built C5-X7 (Comfort) for 10 years & won't trade it for anything. I service it as per spec & never had a problem

Thank You for all the brutally honest information, I must concur that the general impression is that of a car put together with emphasis on comfort and family-oriented practicality. I am currently looking at C5 X7 - various models - and have test driven one 1.6 HDi from 2011. As I am currently driving an electric car with some 300hp as my main (got it as a company car) and a Volvo S60 2.4T with 200hp, I must point out that I thought there was something wrong with the C5 I tested - as the gas pedal needed a proper shove to get the car rolling. :D Then I just realised it's made that way on purpose - or rather, that's the result of it having 115hp (or thereabouts). That being said, the ride was... Serene. The only thing that found its way into the cabin was the reliable sound of the diesel engine, even though it was a car on coils and springs, it was still as comfortable as anything else, or even better. The boot was cavernous, the chair had the massage function and the general feel after sitting in there and taking it for a spin was... Dreamy. It felt as if the chair was giving me a big hug and I could see myself having this one as our second car (sod the Volvo) and just driving it as my daily (I'd just let my wife have the EV) - I could envision the chair giving me a hug, embracing me after a hard day at work and telling me that everything's going to be alright. Strange, I know. That being said, it feels as if owning such a car turns the car into a family member, rather than just a utilitarian device, as the car provides the family with everything the family needs (aside from a functioning, well-placed couple of... Never mind, not gonna mention what is not to be mentioned on a C5 X7 :D ). I am sincerely grateful for a straightforward channel and all the info provided, all the courageous endeavours and all the feelings about this car You've managed to convey through these videos - and I hope there is more to come. Seeing as You also do some 3D printing and such, I imagine You'll know Your way around that last piece of problem You've stumbled upon - that piece of silver trim not fitting under that abomination of a multimedia system. Best of luck, and please, keep them coming. I will come back and report here when I've found mine.

Thanks very much for the comment! I think that a 1.6hdi may not be enough for someone used to 200/300hp. I also used to have an S60 (T5 with 250hp) and the engine was a gem, but I prefer the Citroen in every other respect. In my opinion, the 2.0hdi is enough. It won't set the world alight like the T5 did, but it's enough.

I'm expecting one from Italy. I hope to buy it too. I am currently driving a C5 2005 1.6 hdi station wagon. It is a bit less well maintained, so I don't want to put money into it. I have already decided to buy a new x7. Thank you so much for the extensive videos for this car. Greetings from Montenegro ✌️🤘

I have bought a 2008 Tourer 2.0 HDi automatic last February. It had 143000 km. 6 months later she now has 164000 km. Just had to replace the brakes and discs. She drives smoothly and cruising speeds of 170km/h are no problem. What the C5 don't like is acceleration from standstill. But isn't made for that either. The only thing that really bothers me is the lack of storage. And as you mentioned the controls from the airco and the radio.

I dislike the electronic hand brake and mine being right hand drive means the already lacklustre cabin storage is compromised by a half glovebox, it feels like the switches and steering hub buttons are on the wrong side ( it's not the only Euro car to do this for RHD) Sport mode in the 2lt Hdi auto is silly, but these cons are minor compared to the massive pros of the high comfort, general ambiance and fuel economy. I'm 6'5 and haven't hit my head door frame yet! I Appreciate the uploads, thanks.

It's always bugged me how the French treat RHD customers. They're a huge potential market for one thing, but foremost, they deserve the same as everyone else. I'm very glad you enjoyed the videos, all the best!!

The reason the French treat RH drive vehicle owners the way they do is because we are British or likely to be connected to Britain in some form or other and they haven't forgotten Waterloo.

Great series of videos, very informative, thank you. I never had Citroen myself but I came across one nice looking 2010 C5 Tourer 3.0 V6 Exlusive with auto gearbox and hydroactive suspenssion. Vould you say its a good reliable engine? Fuel economy doesnt concern me much. Tia

Thank you! As far as I know, yes the 3.0hdi is reliable, that it improved certain shortcomings of the 2.7hdi that preceded it. But I have to be clear that I got this info from second hand sources, I have no direct experience myself

Thanx for your video’s I stil have a few left to watch 😎 They hav such a good vibe. I am currently looking to buy a C5x7 and find it hard to decide what model to go for. Like you I don’t like the SatNav, in my opinion it does not add anything. As I am living in Norway we have to pay even more for ehhh well everything, so I feel your pain. I just n to decide if I’ll go for the 1.6 which is safer choice or go for the 2.0 with real automatic and hydraulic suspension? Are there any major changes from 2009 to 2013? What is the best year to buy? Thanx
@comcarclub
@comcarclub 2 года назад
Thanks for the kind words! I would only go for the 1.6 if you do a lot of town and slower driving. If you go on longer journeys then the 2.0 makes sense because of the 'longer legs' that sixth gear gives the car. Another advantage is that it's easier to find a 1.6 without satnav than it is to find a 2.0 without satnav. It really doesn't matter too much what year, since the C5 changed little over its production run. You have 2.0 140 HP diesels then they 163 HP diesels after 2011 (I think), then they became 150hp (blue hdi). It's very confusing and I keep getting surprised by what's on the market. I hope it isn't too different in Norway otherwise what I'm saying might be wrong! All the best!

Hello Sir, Thanks for your videos and for your time and knowledge making them. I actually just moved to portugal and I’m astounded by the mileage on the cars here and the price they still ask for it. It’s mind boggling. I’m actually trying to decide between a Honda Civic tourer, a Mercedes c220 estate or a c5 tourer x7 (which I just recently found out about). I also always thought French cars were unreliable, but they are a lot cheaper in portugal. It will save me at least 3-6k on buying a similar spec/mileage example as the other car I mention. In your experience and from your knowledge, is riding a Citroen beneficial because of cheaper parts and a lot of garages knowing these French’s motors? Maybe it’s the same with Honda and Mercedes’ like the experience you had with Volvo parts. Anyway, hope you could give me an insight. Goodluck with your channel! We might bump in to each other here!
@comcarclub
@comcarclub 2 года назад
Hello and welcome to Portugal! I hope you enjoy it here, and thanks for corroborating how prices here are idiotic. There's no one correct answer to your question. The Hondas are reliable, from what I've heard (at least the ones up until 10 years ago were), but relatively rare. As I've found out the hard way, rare can be a pain when sourcing parts. Mercedes are the opposite, they are as common as muck, but parts can be expensive, as there is a lot of demand, at least that's what I have been told in the past. I've also heard of people not being happy with the electronics on Mercs, but that was for cars from the 2000s. Take all I've said about the Hondas and Mercedes with a grain of salt, because they're not my area of expertise, and I know about them from talking to friends, people who've owned them or mechanics. I like the Citroen because it's rather well-built and even though the C5 isn't rare it isn't too common either, but parts are easy to get hold of and relatively cheap because it shares components with so many other cars. However, I do recommend that they be seen by a mechanic who knows the brand. But to be honest, I'd recommend that for any car, since my Volvo only began to get fixed properly after I began taking it to a specialist. Hope this helps, and give me a beep if we cross paths!

@@comcarclub wow thanks for the prompt and thorough answer amigo! Yes prices are insane indeed, thanks for confirming. I’ve been basically brought up by my dad that anything Japanese is well built and won’t get any big troubles if you maintain it well, and even without. But I agree with you, most cars well maintained by mechanics who know them can go for miles and miles. The thing also is that most Japanese cars aren’t known for their comfort, which is something I really want. I got 2 dogs of which one absolutely hate potholes and unexpected road noise from trucks or something else. That’s the main reason why I’m looking for a car with a serene interior and suspension comfort. From what I’ve read the c5 could be a good candidate. Especially with the pneumatic suspension. Thanks for your comment, helps a lot. From what I’ve seen your in the north somewhere right? Cheers bud

Well, as the total costs ( without gasoline) were about 4k euros for 2,4 years, for that money you could have just hired a car, or used a taxi. Seems to be cheaper. In fact, car sharing is perhaps the best option.

So, you came to a car enthusiast channel to say that the car enthusiast should get rid of the object of their enthusiasm and the raison d'etre of the channel, because it's cheaper? That's what you're saying? Really?

@@comcarclub I didn't mean that. Sorry, my English is not good. I should have replaced" you" with "one". For, I have been considering buying a C5 Tourer, until you declared the expenses. So now I would prefer sharing this C5, instead of owning it. I am not enthusiastic for repairing, just for riding a car in comfort, and a shared C5 would offer that, but for much less money. Maybe I'm wrong, for here in Belgrade, the car sharing is not yet available.

Did you ever have had the idea, that you might be a racist? What do germans today have to do with what happened 80 years ago? Neither they were born that time nor are their parents responsible for what happened, as they were children that time. I suppose you are greek. What did greeks do in the passt in Persia? Was ist not war and Killing? Do you understand, that It IS Not right to blame someone for his Origin or for what happened in the past with his people?
