Climbing for points, survival and maybe some hot soup, it's ICE CLIMBER on the Nintendo Entertainment System!, This is a super catchy arcade-style game where you play an Eskimo who clubs enemies on his way to the top of the mysterious Ice Tower filled with vegetables and pterodactyls!!

The world is changing for sure. My seventy year old grandmother has a 3DS, plays on her phone, and constantly tries to get me to make a Facebook account so that I stay "relevant and in touch with society". She drives a five speed manual Ford Fiesta as well. I'm not saying this is bad, but if she lives another ten years she'll have a jet pack, and I don't know how I feel about eighty year olds traversing through the sky whilst texting and drinking sugar free Red Bull. I'll tell you one thing though, looking out of the windows on planes will be a lot more exciting when senior citizens occupy the sky.

the music for ice climbers will always be stuck in my head. one of the first video game music that got stuck into my head as a little child.

this is one of those timeless classics, which sums up the best parts of my childhood - spent so many hours playing this at my best friend's house, along with Ice Hockey... and even though these many years later, I have my own copy of it; sadly I don't have my friend around anymore... and Ice Climber is one of those games I just can't bring myself to enjoy on my own...

Man you keep refreshing my old school gaming memory with my brother. I love this game and when you play with another person it's very difficult to play. And some abusive words may pop out!!! Love your videos man keep up!

I cant even begin to tell you how many quarters I put into Ice Climber before it came out on the 8 bit Nintendo. Love this game. Old School classic games will never die!

Great review *****!! I too did not have this one growing up and playing it now really it is very tricky as you said. The controls for jumping just somehow feel awkward! Still I do enjoy this game every now and again since I got it on the Wii U Virtual Console! :)

Feels like the coldest night of the year so far so I'm playing this and a reproduction cart of snow bros. It's heating up tomorrow so it feels right tonight. Hopefully I have crazy cold and snowy nights to play these games which I never thought I would wish for but these games hit better when the weather is in that zone idk why but for me it's true.

In the Japanese version those hairy white bad guys are actually seals. They changed it in North America because they thought people wouldn't like the idea that you can club seals in the game.

I didn't like this game when I was young and I still don't love it. I think the jumping controls and faulty collision detection ruined it.

The Wii U can't handle 8-player Ice Climber battles - they were removed due to the expanded feature set of Smash Bros U.

banj0 Where did you get this information????? The ice climbers were working in the wii u version they were removed do to not being able to get them working in the 3ds version. The wii us 8 player smash had nothing to do with there absence.

classic game that gets a bad rep because of the learning curve it takes. I enjoy this game a lot, it was also one of my sisters favorite games to play co-op with me back in the day. I'm about to watch the review now, i hope you like it too.

The ice climber I had as a kid had seals you needed to hit with the hammer and not white fluffy abominable snowmen - I can kinda guess why they took the seals out...

I had a japanese 100 in 1 cartridge when i was a kid it had every nes black box game. I clubbed seals in ice climbers much better.

I think this is primarily a two player game. It could actually make you hate the other person. Just like Twin Bee, Mario Brothers or Baloon Fight.

i started playing this recently and had not seen it since back in the late 1980s, whats really clear is that this game is the basis for Super Mario bros, from jump sound effect, the block breaking/exploding mechanic and the player inertia, SMB in some fucked up way is ice climber 2. searching wiki its the same "lead programmer", i.e. the person really responsible for what we get.

i wish we got to know more about the Japanese programmers and not the managers, its a weird situation were we know about the programmers and their thoughts from the west but not really japan, what myiamoto says is just fluff, we know what programmers are like and their stories always show that everything comes down to great programming and the actual programmers very rarely get any credit. If you dig around in the memory of Ghosts and Goblins arcade rom the programmer put his details and name in there , in a cry for help, perhaps japanese games programmers were slaves.
