The Indian Mountaineering Foundation presents its ongoing Webinar series on Mountaineering, the Indian Himalaya and Adventure Sports. Prem Kumar Singh was a member of an expedition to Saser Kangri IV in 2016, and this webinar is his personal account of this expedition.
Mount Saser Kangri (7,416m) is a mountain lying in the Eastern Karakoram, often referred to as the "Yellow Goddess of the Karakoram". Located in a remote region which sees very little exploration and guarded by very inhospitable terrain, the mountain remains one of the few true mountaineers' peaks. Do look out for the various Google Earth images and graphics used to enhance viewer experience.
Prem Kumar Singh is a young Indian mountaineer with over 7 years of climbing experience. He has undertaken 15 expeditions, climbing all over the Indian Himalayas, including Deo Tibba, Nun, Satopanth, Trishul, Saser Kangri, Everest, Elbrus, Aconcagua and Carstensz Pyramid. He has also done winter ascents of Mt. Friendship and Mt. Ladakhi. He has also been proactively propagating climbing in Indian Himalayas across various platforms like TEDx, FICCI, CCI etc. Prem can be reached on :

Very nice talk Prem, please do not get disheartened by any comments made. Climbers and speakers like you deserve all the praise that they can get. Seasoned mountaineers know that conditions change on the mountain and a simple walk up can become a treacherous trap in a matter of years. Good going. Keep it up!

The last 3 series of the webinar have been very impressive, not only from an educational point of view and also for ex photography but also displaying the communication skills of the presenters(a change from earlier drab RU-vid productions of the IMF). Print outs of such good VCDs may pl be filed(along with a VCD) in the Expdn Reports kept in the library (my suggestion for a workshop on writing a good EXpdn Report have been ignored). We may launch such meaningful expdns. than wasting taxpayers money on massive onslaughts on the Mule's track(now degraded to a trek to the Everest summit). Incidentally who sponsored this expdn, as the kit and the tentage of the expdn is very impressive, besides the money which would have been spent. The climbing profile of this climber is very impressive and would like to know which org the young climber belongs to. As requested such webinars may contain the email id of the presenter(most sr members are not computer savvy), for further queries than blackening the Ltd space for 'public comments'(and genl meaningless comments like -Thanx, loved it etc may be avoided). My heart also goes to late Magan, who summited Saser 2 under the Brg Khullar, ages back.

Thank you for the lovely comments. I am sure IMF is listening closely to your suggestions and shall consider them soon. I am an independent climber and do not belong to any organisation. The contact details are available in the description part of the video, please feel free to drop in and we can have a conversation about the mountains :)

This is so beautifully explained and the narrator sounds so modest....not like a lot of those "I conquer mountains" type of guys.. Had goosebumps on the avalanche part... having seen them from far js scary.. being in one would have been a whole different thing. Hope to meet u sometimes and hear more stories.

I am afraid this guy suffers from moral dishonesty. This mountain was first climbed by the Joint Indo-British Army Expedition and not only that Saser 1 was also climbed by the team from this route. As far as Saser IV is concerned it was a bit of a cakewalk for our team which I must say it comes around as a highly exaggerated drama in this case.. The person makes no mention of this first ascent or the later ones.

Hi Mr. Darshan, I am sure you had a beautiful career as a mountaineer but use of such language doesn't do justice to your stature. You should be a little choosey with your words. Calling someone "morally dishonest" can seriously tarnish your own image too. Here are some references available on the net for your perusal. simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saser_Kangri publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12197506500/Saser-Kangri en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saser_Kangri an except from the above page : "In 1973, an expedition of members of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police finally succeeded in making the first ascent of the peak, by a very different route. They approached the peak from the southeast, via the upper Shyok Valley and the North Shukpa Kunchang Glacier, a long and difficult journey.[2] Only in 1987 did climbers succeed in ascending this peak from the western side: an Indian-British team led by V.Pandey and LS successfully climbed the peak in conjunction with the first ascent of Saser Kangri IV.[4]" I have linked above some references which I relied upon while drafting this webinar and unfortunately it didn't mention the joint Indo-British expedition to be the first one. The ITBP expedition happened in 1973 and every source mentions that as the 1st successful expedition on Saser Kangri. Also making a reference of every expedition that happened on that mountain isn't something that the time constraint of the format allows. You guys might have been very strong mountaineer's in your age and time and found the technical sections to be a 'cake-walk', but it wasn't the case with our expedition and this webinar is my personal account of the expedition. So I believe I am entitled to my opinion. In the wake of all the new information, please go through the webinar again and this time without the coloured glasses of your judgemental cynicism. I am sure you'll find it a little more interesting :)

Mountaineering lovers don't talk like you. This is a very good presentation about a thrilling expedition. He told it in such a genuine and simple way. You should not post such hateful comments on social media. You sound #jealous :P

@@mountainlover1485 Don't like me, no problem. Please read the book A MOUNTAIN OF HAPPINESS. It will clear your doubts. I am beyond the stage and age to feel jealous. The same mountain was climbed in two days from camp 2 at 19500 ft to the top and back to camp 1 17700 ft by then Capt Jodh Dhillon, and in two days from camp 2 and back to camp 2 by about ten others. I reckon mountaineering is a different ball game now.
