I’m thinking of how ironic it is that the need for engines to power Iranian drones used by Russians against Ukrainian forces armed by America resulted in Chinese engines that were affordable to flying addicts like me. Good on ya Mmatt for trying it first. Love this channel.

Also curious about his needing to do “seasonal adjustments” to his carburetors. The Bing 64 on a Rotax 912 requires no such adjustment and compensates automatically e.g. “leans” the fuel mixture in response to changes in pressure altitude. Would like to learn more about what he is experiencing and what adjustments he makes.
@OtterFlys
@OtterFlys Месяц назад
He said, it’s the temperature, not the pressure altitude.
@SkyJeep701
@SkyJeep701 Месяц назад
Yes as the temperature changes so does air density. This means so does atmospheric pressure. This is why traditional aviation carburetors should be leaned by the pilot prior to takeoff at high altitude airports or on hot days even at sea level. Both hot and high is a potentially hazardous combination for aircraft performance. But Bing 64 carbs compensate for this automatically within their design constraints. I still would like to know what symptoms he’s experiencing and what he is doing to his carbs to seasonally compensate. The Bing 64 has no requirement for the operator to adjust anything based upon temperature changes.

I'm loving this! About time for the Chinese to clone rotax and challenge their absurdity about prices! What an expensive toy like engine it is. I follow rotax since the "famous" 532 two stroke. Since then I followed them to never buy into it because of a simple reason. All its engineering concepts are WRONG! I love this clone idea. AWESOME! I love the fact that rotax are now challenged. I hope the Chinese succeed 😅😅😅
@SkyJeep701
@SkyJeep701 Месяц назад
There are several good aviation safety reasons a Rotax is expensive. They include world class configuration management, supply chain management, detailed technical documentation, detailed owner and service manuals, instructional videos, Service Alerts and Bulletins, owner instructional videos, a global network of factory trained service centers and technicians, with customer technical support provided to owners. I receive Service Alerts directly from Rotax if a problem is discovered by them with any part on my Rotax engine, including how to determine if my engine is affected, how inspect the part, and what to do if my part needs replaced because of the problem. All of this costs money and that cost is reflected in the cost of the engine. Does this clone engine manufacturer provide anything similar for a third of the price of a Rotax? Me thinks he has bought an engine, and not much more than that.

When I weigh the risks, it's always some sort of compromise. Engines are measured by weight, power, efficiency, reliability and cost. There is no engine that is the best in all categories. If you find an engine that is the most reliable, efficient, powerful and lightweight, it's also going to be the most expensive. If you can get an engine that is equally reliable, powerful, efficient and lightweight but it's more expensive, it's very difficult not to choose that engine.

It's obvious that he hasn't had any Chinese knock off motors before. I don't mind them on a mower or log splitter but not on something that you need to make sure is reliable and is not going to let you down by falling out of the sky. I've had alot of experience with the knock off engines but not a plane rotax engine knock off. I couldn't trust 1 to go flying with. Hopefully China has finally made a good knock off for his sake.

I would question the quality of the original. Lots of Chinese parts. So many problems with the 912. Totally hear you with the knock off. But rotax is WAY overpriced for what it is. They need competition… wish continental would make something similar… not thrilled with rotax

That's because everybody uses waaay too much! All that excess material that squeezes out is just waste! A 3/16" bead is way plenty! RTV Silicone gasket maker is for making gaskets. Don't put it on gaskets, except for maybe on corners where seams meet. I like Permatex Ultra Silicone Gasket Maker because unlike regular RTV Gasket Makers, Ultra is sensor friendly and not corrosive to aluminium parts. I use mostly ultra grey high vibration resistant, works well. No leaks. Three Bond 1105 I believe it is, is also an excellent case half seam sealer. @@sledawgpilot

@@sledawgpilot most peoples use waaay too much RTV is the main problem. A 3/16" bead or less is plenty much. However many manufacturers quite extensively use semi liquid hardening gasket makers for almost everything except head gaskets and a few certain other applications where it just wouldn't work. It actually works quite well otherwise with much less seepage issues as compared to regular gaskets.

I love Stihl chainsaws. Take a look at a handy 16" MS170 for $199. Then look at the identical saw on the shelf for $649. What gives? Well the $199 Stihl says "Made in the USA" and the other says "Made in Germany." OK geniuses here's a question: Is American labor that much cheaper than German labor? No. When you see "Made in the USA" it only means that a certain percentage of the PARTS were ASSEMBLED in the USA. Most of the parts for the $199, made in the USA Stihl are made in China. Same with Kohler engines, Branson Tractors and many other trusted brands that not even I have the resources to research and reveal.
