Thanks for posting this video. You hit on a lot of good points, and I’m happy that someone put a video up about this knife. I have 3 Cobratecs, a CTK-1 in small, a Lightweight in medium, and an Enforcer. I also purchased one of their OTF pens because it was just too cool not to try out. I have been EDCing the CTK and Lightweight in rotation for about 6 months, and I’ve only had 1 derailment between the two knives. That reliability is what caused me to buy the Enforcer, which is just a whole other level of knife. Also, it should be noted that all Cobratecs offer a lifetime warranty. I have reached out to the company, and received a reply from the owner, who seems like a great guy. Anyway, I think that these knives offer an amazing quality for their respective price points, and I hope that the company continues to grow and become more popular. I have no affiliation with Cobratec...just really dig their products.

So, I own both the Enforcer and a Microtech Ultratech. I let a very non-knife friend play with them both. Her conclusion was that the Enforcer "is probably more expensive". Going into the reasons why (and bear in mind, she's VERY much a non-knife person, has no idea who Microtech are), first of all, the action on the Cobratec is smoother. To get the knife to actuate required less effort and felt "nicer". Also, the shape of the button on the Microtech leads to some fairly sharp edges. Secondly, one time, the Microtech failed to fully actuate, lol... she panicked and thought she broke it. The Cobratec didn't fail. Thirdly, the Microtech button rattles. A lot. Like it's about to fall off. No rattles on the Cobratec. Fourthly.. (forthly ?!?!) the blade play on the Microtech was way more than on the Cobratec. And she really liked the box that the Cobratec came in, lol. The only thing she preferred on the Microtech was the blade, I have the stonewash D/E. Anyway, she was genuinely shocked when I told her that the Microtech was more expensive by $100 (Knifeworks has a 20% off coupon code for Cobratec, so just over $200 for the Enforcer. I paid $315 for the Ultratech). Cobratec also make the Kwaiken OTF for Boker. Another excellent performer. I love my Cobratecs so much, I just ordered a King Cobra. Unless you're a "Duuuude, I have an Microtech, so that makes me special" knife person, the Cobratec offers better value and, based on the "testing" we did, a better quality knife. Fact. (Although, I DO love my Microtech, it's just so.... badass, so get both and give them to a non-knife person to play with)

I’m with you. I’ve been EDCing a microtech trip-grip from brand new. After a couple weeks EDC, getting failures to lock open. Carried my Cobratec for weeks and never had this issue. Just went and got my Cobratec out after reading your comment and action is better than my tri-grip and it’s easier to deploy and feels nicer. Lot of folks hollering “made in China” and they’re probably right…but if so they did it better and cheaper. Frankly I believe that it is assembled in Texas even if some components are Chinese. Of course Microtech is also doing overseas manufacture now too…kettle, meet pot?

@@strider_sphinx Oh, that's right. I forget the model, but there's a Microtech that's made by, I believe, Rike. EDIT: Googled it, the "SOCOM Bravo"... designed by Microtech, made by Rike in China.

For the very small amount of money more you pay for a Microtech, it is a FAR better knife. The cobratec knives are made of cast pot metal. MT knives are fully CMC machined billet aluminum, are are 100% manufactured in the US. CT knives are all manufactured in Asia, more than likely not even assembled in the US, and possibly QA/QC in the US. It's not even a comparison. If you're going to pay $100-150 for a CT, you might as well pay the $300 for a MT. It's like comparing a Ford fiesta to a Benz.

I have a couple cobratec knives and generally like them. However, this knife is almost as much as a microtech ultratec. Seems to miss their market. Also, I keep hearing that these knives are just “assembled” in the US. Components come from Asia. Any truth to that?
@strider_sphinx
@strider_sphinx 2 года назад
I can’t confirm or deny that-I’ve heard the same thing in some of the comments here. Would not surprise me, but even if it’s only “assembled” in USA that’s still better than full production overseas. As for price, you’re right-this one at $220ish is within $60-80 of an ultra tech at $280ish. $260 for this one on their website…which really gets close to microtech cost. However I think the action on this one is better than an ultratech.

Well you posted this video 2 years ago. How do you feel about Cobratec now? I have one of their lower tier OTFs and compared to the noname OTF i spent half the cash for, I'm not impressed. I can only feel that a higher priced Cobratec would be money spent on something else would be the wiser choice.

I still like it, and still works well. In fact I sold all my Microtech OTFs but keep this one. I don’t know that I’d buy it again but I like it well enough to keep it over a Microtech.

You need to beat up on a combat troodon. Hammer it through a wood table or stacked 2x4 and where that pm2 folder will fail the CT won’t. When they are in the open position they are as strong as you can get short of a fixed blade. High end otf blades are some of the strongest you can get as far as a pocket knife goes. And are excellent for self defense

As near as I can tell, it’s “assembled in Texas”. Quality components, with design and assembly in US and some manufacturing overseas isn’t the greatest at this price point but it’s better than outright made overseas. And yes-totally ripping off some of Nutnfancy’s approach to blades and reviews!

Why do people keep lying? These things are made in China. They put them together in Texas. That is not “made in America”. There are decent OTF’s that don’t lie or pretend to be American made. I bet you $200 thats not M390 steel. There is nothing wrong with a good OTF, like the Lightning from Grindworx ($50). They don’t need to lie.

@@SiliconDrifter Not to mention the $500/$600 WE knives.... it's becoming less and less of a factor that "chinese knives are junk and should be $50 tops"... My $65 button lock CIVIVI Elementum is tremendous, very cool little knife. Is it as good as my $250 Bugout ? Actually, if you're judging it by fit and finish and functioning as a knife, then yes. Yes it is (although I LOVE my Bugout, my most fidgeted with knife in my collection...) I think that "real" knife people don't have this hangup about Chinese knives. And rightly so. I get the patriotism factor. I buy American when I can, but... love me some Kizers and Bestechs and QSP's and CIVIVI and Cobratec.

@@arupian666 Reate, QSP, WE, Artisan, Lionsteel, etc make pretty damn good knives with “premium” steel. I mean, shit, lionsteel is using magnacut and I can’t even find a hinderer or Medford at the price they’re “Chinese” competitors are asking. I like American, but I’ll still shop Chinese if they can do the job just as good for half the price. Buying american doesn’t justify a $500 premium. I’d rather buy a Shiro for that money.
