The umpire realized he screwed up and he tried to justify it by getting into a debate with a player.. what he should have done was apologize and admit he screwed up and it would have ended there.😮
shit happens to every player sometime!! rybakina has to put up with a lot of wrong calls but i'm sure the umpires don't do it on purpose! after all, players make many mistakes, like serving double faults & hitting the ball into the net or out, when it was easier to win the point!!!

@miacat1727 It has nothing to do with being a CoCo fan or whether she's better or worse than you think. It's about right and wrong. Although it hasn't happened with this particular umpire, players like Sabalenka, Stephens, Osaka, Djokovic, Tiafoe, Mary Jo Fernandez, The Williams' sisters, and others have All had it happen in their careers. My biggest gripe is that she requested to talk to the supervisor, and he refused to follow even That simple rule. Let's put it like this. You go to a fancy restaurant, and the server is rude. You go to the maitre'd demanding to see the owner, and he refuses your demand. You'd be standing there, madder than a wet hen, causing a scene. Different circumstance but the same result. Fair is fair. She has the right, though, to go to the WTA and insist that he not be allowed to call any of her matches again. Several other high-profile players have done it, and so should she.
@@MrCcoolg Hard to prove the umpire was deliberately calling wrong shots, always a contentious issue in tennis, the umpire can hardly overule himself, so replaying the pont is conceding fairly. Asking for a supervisor was a bit extreme & accusing the opponent of not siding with Coco when Coco had disrupted the game could be seen as tactics. That's the nature of the game.

He can't overturn his call, which is why he made her replay the point. ALL within the rules. What the gripe is about is that CoCo asked for a supervisor to explain the rule about the call, Also within the rules of a disputed play, and the umpire Refused. The rules states that a player can ask for a supervisor during a dispute, to which the umpire Must comply. CoCo's dispute was NOT that he called the ball out, it was that he made the call after she made serve on the play, let Plisokva return, THEN called it out. The umpire had enough time to make a timely call, but delayed it until Pliskova returned it. It was the Timing of the call. It is delayed calls like that one that's the basis for computerized umpires, which more venues are starting to go to. Pretty soon, there won't be a need for human umpires, and to be honest, I'm not going to feel bad about it. I have seen the same type of thing happen to less prominent players a number of times. It just so happened that this game featured a prominent player, with the whole World watching. If you listen to the replay, even the announcers, who were great players themselves, said that the call was improper. So you're telling me that former players are wrong too? Oh, and for the record, neither I, CoCo, nor the announcers accused Pliskova of anything improper. She did what Any player would do when a call goes in their favor, stay silent.

Terrible that Coco had to spend game energy on this. She could have just let it go, but she didn’t. I’m glad she was able to argue with composure and stand up for herself while still getting the W. That’s 2 wins for Coco in this game.
I saw this game and the Umpire was out of line. It happens too often. The players want to win and they want to do it fairly. Tennis should do something about this. In the NFL the coach can now protest contest a bad call. Tennis needs something like this. This happens to many players. When it happened to Serena Williams it was really bad.
I totally agree, Coco is extremely talented carries herself professionally appears grounded and learning to take charge of her business (tennis) realizing that she now has become the PRIZE with a bullseye squarely upon her back.! Coco also handles the media extremely well and always seems to be authentic and confidence about herself on and off the courts. 5*****4 Coco!!
People are a bit confused, a veteran umpire like Pierre is making well over 6 figures per year, with free travel, free hotels, free meals and tons of perks, actually his benefit package is well over what 99% of WTA players make. Vika said it best if you cannot do your job properly you should not be sitting there, Andy said it even better. 1. He’s wrong 2. He’s lying about being wrong 3. Denying this player the right to a supervisor is a rule he is clearly aware of and he even broke that rule, there is no place in the sport for umpires like this as clearly something bigger was at play here anyone defending this lack of integrity may have their own integrity issues to deal with! Player rights need to be respected more as they make this sport possible! A umpire should not be able to determine the outcome of a match by clearly violating rules! This was shameful to watch one of the best in the world beg for help while being robbed on national television..this was sad 😢

@@TennisinaMinute Yeah, I don't know what are the rules regarding denying a supervisor, but I remember players risking a time violation if they were denied a supervisor and kept waiting or if they did or during a game or whatever (it's been years, so I'm not sure). But I was thinking about the call itself here, even if he knew he messed up I don't think he's allowed to change the call after the initial decision?
@Gigusx people are outraged at how he called the match, he made several calls intervening play even prior to this that were wrong and highly questionable. Not knowing the rules is one big issue, however knowing the rules and make biased calls is a bigger issues, (Pierre knows the rules people) breaking the rules and deliberately ignoring player rights make this a huge black eye for the sport. There was a lot going on during this match, Coco could sense it and asked for a Supervisor that is the only recourse she had while playing, the denial speaks volumes.
More than that but clearly as a black woman I know and he knows it was personal, I can’t understand the threat we as Black people go through because of the outer casing of our God given skin 🙏🏿👌🏾
The umpire needs to be disciplined. It is clearly a bogus call(s). Good that Coco stands up for herself because nobody else will. The Detroit Lions get robbed every year for bogus calls and it was sickening. They played the Dallas Cowboys this year and once again, a UTTERLY POOR call and the Cowboys won the game. I believe the umpire and his team were disciplined.
Using race isn't necessary or appropriate in this case. Pierre Bacchi's officiating decisions during the Coco Gauff, Andy Murray and Iga Swiatek matches have been disappointing and just awful. His officiating behavior should be addressed and improved.
Once in a while we have seen biased umpires favoring one player against the other in the sport of tennis. Fortunately, tennis has been taking action on this kind of umpires and as a result the game is still enjoyed and loved by millions of people. Keep the sport clean. Thank you!

Venus and Serena can probably sympathize. At a certain point, a line judge called so many foot faults on Venus (the one thing not subject to camera review), that Venus had to ask, "can you please tell me how I'm foot faulting so I can correct it?" Replay of the entire match showed no foot fault ever occurred.

The integrity and honesty of this umpire has been exposed, and its ZERO. On the other hand, Pliskova's sportsmanship is also under her feet. We saw lot of players especially the top ones e.g. Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, Murray they immediately accept what is right even if its against them.

Tennis is an Individual Sport. At this Level she is not just playing simoly for Money, she is playing for a spot in History. For this man to insert himself in that is unforgivable.
I disagree with the point stating that the umpire is good if he is clearly wrong. Especially if they know it. No person doesn’t want to be corrected but if you are wrong, know it, and deny it, you are corrupt. Even if you think you’re right, Get the supervisor, get the call right and get the cheats out of the game.
