Cold Steel's AUS 10A performed VERY well in C & A Gear and Outdoors' cut test, outperforming D2, VG-10, and even 154CM, which is generally considered to be one of the better non-powdered steels. In fact there are only 2 Non-powdered steels that he has ever tested that did better, Fallkniven's LamCOS, and Aogami Blue (which I've never even heard of). Steel snobbery is real, but not always accurate. I bet that many of the people that talk smack about AUS 10A would happily buy a spydie VG-10 blade, and VG-10 cut about HALF as many times as Cold Steel's AUS 10A did!

I have no problem with CS AUS 8 either. That espada slamming through truck hoods without a scratch convinced me. My guess is the AUS 8 is even tougher than the AUS 10 with a slight loss in edge retention.

A Cold Steel big blades are Boss and I saw that Jimislash video, Jimislash proved that AUS10A is very very good steel for tough user blades.

I love coldsteel an they keep their prices way more reasonable then benchmade an spyderco they have better locks an quality materials I carry a large g10 espada everyday or a code 4 both have xhp. I had a liner lock fail on me twice so I don't use them no more. That comes from being a truck mechanic. But I do like kershaws but my work knives are only coldsteel they never fail. I also have the rahja 2 for outside camping an trail clearing an self-defense if I need it nice review

Excellent review. Just bought two of these 4 max scouts after finding out Cold Steel was sold. Never know if there will be panic buying for Cold Steel knives. Keep the reviews coming brother!

@jennifer kelley ahh I see. I did try to carry two of the Italian ones for a week not practical at all, now I usually carry something far more practical in the off hand pocket.

BigRedEDC whey does this make more sense than the regular 4Max ,I know it's less expensive but folks complain about a kmife that has less high grade materials and it would be nice if it ha e G10, better steel or whatever but they did that first to keep that noise down. at least that what it seems to me and I'm glad to see this model but that doesn't stop me from wanting one of tbe others. ✌

@@BigRedEDC I understand your point, but you know there are other that want the Super Steels and fabulous handle scales, I'm a budget minded fellow as well ,but I must admit there's time that I prefer premium materials my self and on this one I happen to like both ideas. ✌☺

This is the ridiculous knife that my apparently demented inner voice won’t shut up about this week. I have yet to buy one because the responsible side of me knows I have no real need for it and really don’t even want to buy one but then that little voice comes back saying... you NEED this because it’s freaking huge.. lol. “Here it is next to a water bottle.” Pretty much sums up a large part of my internal argument 🤣

Lightning Strike totally haven’t yet lol. Ended up buying a house instead.. figured not much size difference between the two 😂. I eventually will have to get one though because I still can’t live without it for some sick reason.

What is up with "the big silly knife comments this knife is capable and fit for whatever you throw at it. If Andrew Demko and Lynn Thompson hadn't came out with the 4max and 4max Scout we wouldn't know what a true durable capable folding knife could become and what this knife stands for is innovation at its best it's not silly at all!!!.....

I'd probably freak my room mates out if they came home and saw me opening mail with that haha. I'm trying to find a way to rationalize something like that for myself. Keep falling back on the argument that If i needed something that big I should just buy a fixed blade. Interesting knife, bit overkill for myself personally.

I rationalised my 4 Max purchase by, I have a Rocket III bike and a 140 pd / 60 kgs Rottweiler, and Bowies and short swords. It seems I like big chunky things (like how I am built!), so ...... Bought ! Oh, I also buy black / desert tan knives when I find them. A nice change from black / silver, and they remind me of the Rotti. So, that's what I found in a 4 Max, so .... bought !!!! Lol

The current G10 on the recon 1 and even the BS4 aren’t bad, the clip tightness though I find does more damage than the G10.

My AD-10 is my token big silly knife and it has replaced the Code 4 as my work knife (had to use the Code 4 hard a couple months ago and found it is too skinny for my hands and it hurt, still love it though)

Finally received my knife today. That knife cut me 3 times the same finger in the same day while I was closing it. It closed very fast, that is the only issue that I found. But with a little practice, that is nothing. I love it. It is a great knife.

Lol..That's exactly what happened to me but the knife only bit me once when it was closing. Like you said they close fast. Better make sure your fingers are out of the way.

This might be my car knife for part of my trunk kit for emergencies. If anything, think it'll be a Cold Steel for sure. Wonder if it will be too big to cut a seat belt (which I've needed before).

I certainly wouldn’t talk you or anyone else out of buying this knife; I think it’s awesome. That said, if you’re looking for a strong multi functional life that you’re planning on keeping in your truck why wouldn’t you buy a fixed blade? Plenty of options that are going to be stronger and lighter for less money. Just curious on your thought process.

These are back on bladehq. I have a Code 4, the lock is super painful on my thumb to use for me. I have a AD10 and its BUTTER, so smooth. How does this compare? I’ll but it if its more like the AD10.

I just got my AD10. I had heard of the 4Max Scout and now at 110 and change it just hit the must get list. That will give me 4 or 5 2 I don't do much with but the Code4, AD10, and soon the poor mans 4Max the 4Max Scout. Don't think I will ever have all 3 on me but 2 could be a distinct possibility. Thanks for the review and giving me something else to spend money on.
