This was really great! I’ve never seen Roger tear into the drums like that, and his vocals really are spot on, he could easily sing lead for his own band if he wanted but he chose to rock with Queen! VOTE IN THE POLL FOR A QUEEN SONG WE SHOULD REACT TO!!! 😁❤️

As other people wrote down here it was on the B side of Bohemian Rhapsody (the myth said that Roger closed himself in a cupboard until Freddie agreed on realeasing it as a B side of BoRhap). The song is not one of the best Queen songs, but the live version is special because it was Roger's moment to shine, and fan loved it during the concerts. I would have never suggested you this as a Queen song (at least this early in your Queen journey) but I'm glad that you made this reaction because this song is so ridiculously fun and, well, finally poor Roger (always hidden behind the drums and supporting Freddie's vocals) could showcase what he's made of.

The studio version is nice, but I find the live version to be "dirtier", which feels more suitable to the song somehow to me, so I prefer live.
@kdmedia1534

I think this version is much better, the studio one is too slow imo and kinda boring. Kinda the same with Radio Ga Ga and Hammer To Fall at Live Aid, both songs were played slightly faster so they could play all the songs within 20 minutes. And I think it’s better for it.

@MMFrye

This song was actually the B side to Bohemian Rhapsody's first release and on the album, it's about three minutes long. Roger made two solo albums before Freddie did (actually all the members did solo projects before Freddie). Roger also played guitar and sang lead for a band called The Cross. He still does solo work where he plays all the instruments, piano - drums- guitar plus vocals. If you want a huge dose of Roger Taylor, check out The Lot. It has all of his solo stuff plus albums from The Cross up until 2013, I think. Queen was so good as a whole, that a lot of people underestimate the individuals as musicians. All four of them were incredible at their craft. (as a side note Rufus Taylor, Roger's son, is making a name for himself as a drummer.)
@antonymugford6863
@antonymugford6863 5 лет назад
You got the "wtf?!" of the song correct. When Roger introduced the song to the band the rest of them were like, 'Are you joking?' Brian really was not sure about the song because of the lyrics. Roger made a whole load of money from this song because it was the B Side of Bohemian Rhapsody. By the way, it's in 6/8 time.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️LoveLoveLoveLoveLove. My favourite live performance of Roger’s. He nails the vocal, nails the drumming. Can’t even wrap my brain around the complexity of that. And so much frickin’ energy in the performance, I feel so happy when I watch it. My only frustration about the video is that Brian walks in front of the camera RIGHT during the best drum fill of the song! 😝. 2 last notes: 1) The song is actually in 6/8 time (so, essentially 3/4). And 2) the studio version IS also really really good, but this is one of the few songs I like better live, because there is more energy. So, just be prepared for that when you go to the studio version. 😊. Excellent excellent reaction, boys. Probably my favourite.

I have an idea for a Queen Reaction, but this would involve 2 versions of one song: First one is "Now I'm here" - Live at the Rainbow 1974 and the second "Now I'm here" - Live at Wembley 12th of July 1986. Here you'd hear how the sound of Queen changed over the years and how they can make one song sound different but both great. P.S. Keep up the great work.

I agree. I’ve also lobbied for the same side-by-side comparison of their sizzling rock-n-roll medleys from London 75 and Wembley 86. In the medley, a staple of their concerts, it’s like they revert to four friends jamming in the garage to the 50s rnr that inspired them to be musicians. Whether it’s baby queen in satin and sequins or the commanding professionals of Wembley 86, they raise the roof with their joyous medleys.

I love all of your choices in music, especially Queen music!! I have a request for your queue. Queen , Get Down, Make Love. Every single person who grew up with Queen (that I know) remembers this song being played nonstop in our youth. I have yet to see any reactor play this song. The song was on th he racy side back in the 70s, it is down right dirty now. Our societal language changes are on display big time in this song. If you ever do get to it, please first react to the Montreal 1981. It will make your mouth drop, a little like Death On Two Legs. Thanks!!

I find the cupboard anecdote hilarious tho to be completely honest it comes from one unverified source and has never been actually confirmed. Drowse is imo Roger's best song for Queen, along with These are the days of our lives. His solo/The Cross recordings are just as underrated as his drumming. Some didn't age that well, others are still scarily relevant (he wrote a lot of political songs, was very vocal about his opinions and worldviews). A lot of people tend to dismiss him as replaceable member of the band, some still talk about him as nothing more than Queen's pretty boy but he's a talented, hardworking multi instrumentalist with a great voice and he deserves better than that. Oh and this song was inspired by their roadie Jonathan Harris who apparently used to say his car was the love of his life.
@cristiona22
@cristiona22 5 лет назад
Guess what ? Roger and the cupboard has been confirmed. One of the studio engineers or producers on A Night at the Opera - I forget which it was - said in a book about Queen that Roger locked himself in a tape cupboard until he had his victory with Im In Love With My Car.
@dresden123456
@dresden123456 5 лет назад
@@cristiona22 can you give me the title please? There's a lot of Queen and Freddie books out there and maybe a total of 4 I trust with fact checking and proper sourcing. I'm not saying it didn't happen (Roger was a drama queen with a temper as a youngster and it makes for a hilarious story), I'm just saying it's spread online in the past couple of years like a well known fact and we all know how internet works 😉
@dresden123456
@dresden123456 5 лет назад
@@cristiona22 I've rechecked and the only apparent source of that story is from revised 2017 Mojo not quoting Baker directly but stating Baker remembers this happening. I just think it's odd that it's not mentioned in Queen As It Began nor countless Queen, or Brian and Roger interviews over the 45 years of this happening (would Bri really pass up the opportunity to roast Rog on this? 😂) If it happened? Lol yes hilarious I love it. But we could all use precautions in stating things as facts, that's all.

Drowse is in my Top 10 Favorite Queen songs....not only that lazy slide guitar vibe, but the lyrics....they somehow "spoke" to me (and I'm one of those people who rarely pays attention to lyrics or gets deep meaning from them). But the whole drowsy Sunday vibe, and knowing you have all this potential but you just can't choose what to do first, or you're too lazy to choose.... when your choice of breakfast food is major decision..... Studio version is very good (a bit longer, nice choirs included), but in comparison to live one, it seems a little flat. Montreal '81 is the best live gig Queen ever made in my impression. This is a shorter version of the song; they did a cute lil medley where they started with Killer Queen and then during the guitar solo in that they transition perfectly seamlessly into I'm In Love With My Car. Roger actually wrote it about one of Queen's roadies who they were all pretty sure was in love with his car! I prefer the live version but I know some prefer studio. He had his own band along side Queen called The Cross where he sang lead and played guitar. One of his solo tracks I like is Man on Fire - he’s a bad actor in the film clip but it’s a good song. I saw an interview with Roger where he said he’s never thought of himself as only a drummer but as a drummer/singer as he’s been both right back to his early days in The Reaction in Cornwall . I love his vocals and drumming - he’s my favourite member of Queen.

@@molokoko786 Yes! And you never ever tire of watching Live At Montreal. Astounding quality from start to finish. So many live shows of theirs to watch, each a little bit different. We are very lucky to at least still have that.

Totally agree. Houston 77, Rainbow 74 and Hammersmith 77 are all scorchers. What a privelege it is to see them morphing from baby Queen all the way through to the consummate, stadium-commanding professionals of Wembley 86.

PS Listening to Roger’s songs, keep in mind, he generally plays all the instruments as well as doing lead vocals, through the 70s Queen and solo work. tho not maybe on Innuendo. See the official video for Everything is Broken to see him at the keyboards, rhythm and lead guitar and of course drums.

Roger is my favorite rock drummer of all time and I’ve seen him sing this live 3 times. I definitely recommend the studio version - his voice is really incredible on that and you can really hear the awesome guitar runs by Brian throughout the song. Please check it out. Also check out his solo song Man on Fire. There is actually a real music video for it with Roger wandering around some warehouse, lol.

I absolutely love this version of the song. And I'm so happy you guys not only loved it, but actually commented on the musicality of it. Roger is a phenomenal drummer (my top 3 faves) and has an amazing voice. I love when people find out how great a singer he is. And how much of a beast he was playing live Now I have to watch more of your vids. Great job :)

As much as I love this song, there are 3 more (with Roger singing lead) that I love even more..."Fight From the Inside" (such a great heavy groove), "Tenement Funster" and "Loser in the End" (about mothers, of all things!). He sounds terrific on all three. Hope you eventually check them out! And I love the fact that you guys appreciate both Roger's singing & drumming. He's truly special!

Isn’t Drowse beautiful? I totally agree re Tenement Funster, and I’d add Modern Times RocknRoll, from Queen 1 - waaaay ahead of its time. Roger sang lead on at least one song on all of Queen’s 70s albums. Brian also sang lead on quite a few early albums. In their concerts these song were usually performed by their peerless front-man Freddie. Queen regarded their studio and live versions as quite different art forms.

Love it! Always happy to see Roger get the recognition and respect he deserves ❤️ and totally agree that he could be the lead vocalist of another band! As for the song, I watched an interview with Roger where he says it’s an unusual composition because he wrote it in 6/8 time (waltz time).. listen again carefully and you can definitely hear it! I highly recommend “Fight from the Inside”, it’s my favorite Roger track! The guitar and his vocals are amazing on it!

Heheee yes! I love this song it's so cheesy! Amazing lyrics, but because they're funny 😂 It definitely makes you smile! The live short is good but it runs on from Killer Queen so you get the best effect watching them both. I heard it was about a particular guy they knew who really loved his car...?

Now, the mythos goes, that like you when the other Queen guys heard Roger’s pitch for the song they were like “no way”. So what did Roger Taylor do? Lock himself in a cupboard until they agreed to record it of course, it’s Roger freaking Taylor we’re talking about. Not sure if it’s 100% true, but I can totally imagine it happening during their heated recording sessions!

Roger had his own band The Cross, I love his album "Mad Bad and Dangerous to know" , the track "Liar" not the same as the Queen version is excellent, “On top of the world ma“ is another stand out. Roger has done a number of solo albums as well, "Foreign Sand" is lovely, he re released it with Yoshike as well. Roger like Brian has done a lot of work which would take a long time to get through. Another song which is not Queen but are on it apart from John is called "The man from Manhattan", they are with a singer called Eddie Howell, its as Queen as you can get though.

Roger is amazing! (they all are) I attended the 2005 concert in Rotterdam and the drum solo was astonishing. He went center stage with only two things to hit, and they kept on adding on drum parts. For 10 minutes we just watched him doing his magic. I've seen them several times but this time I was 3 meters away from him and I must say: his sneakers are usually dope...

Hey Andy. Nice job in spreading good music to the masses. I have a Queen sugestion for you. « A Winters Tale », one of the last songs recorded by the band before Freddie died. Dedicated to the town of Montreaux in Suisse, where Queen had a studio, and an exile place for Freddie, who long for peace and tranquility before he died.
