@@RainmanRaysRepairs Yes Sir - Took our family trip to Texas Houston - Renaissance Festival Now eating all this delicious food and enjoying life so I seen my boyfriend pop up with a new video and had to show some love Now here I am loving
For anyone who sees this I'm just joking with Ray - I'm a military Ford Mechanic with a sick twisted sense of humor And I'm straight but I call Arod and Ray my boyfriends lol....just humor You know Boy (man) Friend ( boy friend ) Anyway I screwed all that up....you get the point
Make as many videos as you want. Every minute of them gives us viewers either the knowledge or power to repair things ourselves with some competency and or a laugh a minute. You did miss a (gravity ) comment when the bolt from the prop shaft fell to the floor. That bungy cord was about as much use as a chocolate teapot. I love your work, your humour and your videos. I’m an army veteran who served 9 years in the British army as a mechanic. So I feel your pain your relief and satisfaction when the job is complete. Keep up the good work.
I enjoy all your videos don't let anyone tell you anything nasty block their butts. I am retired nurse and the way you analyze while you do your craft is excellent . A doctor for cars and teaching everyone who watches. Thank you for all the info you share.
Ray.. you didn't want to work at the shop all week.. but yet here you go working to make videos. Go spend time with your family. From a big brother to a little brother. You do NOT get a rewind button with those kids. Once you miss it you miss it. Once you lost that time its gone. Thanks for sharing and taking the extra time.. but go be a dad.. thats better than being the best mechanic Florida. Stay safe and be well.
Sir good afternoon, I just wanted to say thank you for reawakening my passion for turning wrenches. I bought into the idea the with computers my time had passed, you helped me realize in alot of cases this isn't true. Thank you Ray, keep up the great work and comedic commentary
Interesting to see a car manufacturer using the four link set up in their design . For decades I was building them for my Hot rod projects but I doubt I ever used such thin tube for the panhard rod though.
So much easier than doing this on the ground! The lift helps the job go soo much more efficient. Driveway mechanics have a lot of heart doing what they have to do to get the job done. Roger in Pierre South Dakota
Something to point out to other “shady tree” mechanics. You’ll notice ever time he drops a nut/bolt/random bit (gravity😂🤣😂) he doesn’t need to worry where it went. That is the advantage of having an uncluttered work space and worth every bit of the few minutes spent before you start! Just a tip from the old folks👍
Since you had a lift I'm surprised you didn't leave those last bolts in, then lowering the lift gently put the rear end on jack stands or notched wood blocks, then take the bolts out and raise the truck back up.
tis the way, it's safer and way easier but i use a jack to support it then you can just drag it out of your way and get the new one on without bothering anyone else working.
@@mitchstaff8281 you mean the whole 1-2 feet? you reset it and honestly that is extremely rare since diffs are pretty fn balanced, would have to be retarded to drop a diff from a stand. no cap.
You're smart about finding help to lift heavy large oddly shaped parts. The pain from heavy lifting never goes, it just changes and worsens some as years pass. It causes nucleic impressions in lumbar vertebrae, the resulting geometry is a pain in several ways. That was a wise lift.
i really enjoy your longer videos . knew nothing about cars before stumbling onto your videos. now i know some stuff and chime along with "click" and "power down".
You make us laugh. You talk about the job in hand with this rear axle,,,,like it’s easy easy. It’s a very tricky job indeed. Great to watch though Ray. Love to watch your videos.
I had a deaf mechanic working for me at one time and his air tools sounds like yours. One day I just went through all of his air tools and Teflon tape the crap out of them and man oh man was I happy camper after that.
Unfortunately, Rams are now imported into Australia where they're converted to right hand drive, and sold for inflated prices. Purchasers fail to understand that body parts and panels for repairs are difficult to acquire, having to endure parts importation, extending waiting times and high dollar value. An example is a body shop next to my work, three Rams awaiting windscreen. Have been sitting for 3 months as the windscreen suppliers await import deliveries. Another great vid Ray.👍👍🇭🇲
Probably would have taken twice the time to do in the Northern rust belt. I bet you would have been cutting a lot of the bolts instead. Thank you for the great video.
I use the one man approach and leave the wheels on , remove all but a couple of bolts then lower the vehicle to the floor until the wheels touch then unbolt the differential , roll it out on the wheels .
@@RainmanRaysRepairs Aye, my 08 Silverado has a clunk in the rear diff when shiting PRND and when coasting sometimes.. think she needs a full rebuild in rear diff or maybe just low on fluid..? (maybe diff needs to be flushed?). Haven't taken it apart yet but just wondering if you'd have some kind of insight. Got a remanned 4l60E with upgraded parts so I know it's not that. It's got the G80 limited slip locker also
@@vivian_music remove the driveshaft from the axle and rotate the flange on the diff, see if it has play in the gears. It’s best to do it with the rear cover removed to you can see if there is play in the differential. Pay close attention to play in the pin/gear case area.
@A. Melbs I just posted 2 videos of the issue, one is shifting between PRND and the other is just me wiggling it by hand. They're a few months old, didn't feel like going out to get new ones cause it's current like 50° in Michigan
It's quarter past six on a Sunday morning. I should be sleeping. Instead, I'm eating pound cake, drinking chocolate milk from the container, and watching a guy play with his dangly bits. And that's not even a euphemism. I'm officially old and have turned into my dad. 😲
my friend picked up a fwd rear axle and he carried it by himself, light at first but started to feel the strain by the time he got to the truck lol. wise not to put your back out if you can avoid it
i was hearing tons of AVE's vernacular through watching your backlog but I figured it was just more ubiquitous in general. Glad to know someone else who enjoys that crazy canuckistani.
You should have loosened the 4 link bars off on the other end to release the twist in the bushings. You have to have the weight on the suspension to tighten the 4 link bolts. Hope you checked it was the same gears in junk yard one.
Set the new axle under the truck on jack stands with a floor jack under the diff. Hang plumb bobs from the mounts on the frame. Use them to get the axle into proper position for assembly. Lower the truck until the mounts line up and stick in some bolts. Raise the truck and finish the job.
lol homie at the end is like me when my boss would take forever to give me a second hand. carried many differentials by myself, ain't that bad when you get it on your shoulder if you gotta move it far.
Reminded me of the time many years ago when I was newly hired at some store and they tried to prank me. Boss told me to move a box from the front of the store to the storage area. I picked it up and brought it to the back with a bit of effort. When i came back out, half the staff were just staring at me. Asked why. Apparently it took three of them to bring the box out in their attempt to mess with me. From that day on, if something needed to be moved, I was the guy to call. That's what happens when you work as a landscaper for 15 years. Every day you get to work out 8-12 hours. Makes me strong. That axle would barely have registered.
If I can ask (and you don’t have to answer) but what shop do you work at and where, I’d really like to bring by my truck next time I have a problem, I believe you are one of the best and most honest mechanics around and I’d love to have you work on my truck
I wanted to ask, How fast do you get parts when you order them? For example, you find out there's a part bad on a vehicle, and you need a replacement. From that moment, how much does it take till you have the new one in your hands?
Smart get four guys to lift, don’t stress your backs out if you can avoid it !!!!!!! I had a boss that insisted that I handle ten foot fire cord drywall myself. I’m not going to do it I told him, he said well I don’t need you! So I left two hours later his boss called me said come back and I’ll pay ya for lost hours. Went back and me and apprentice handled that board!
Last Spring the rear end exploded on my truck. long story short, after I brought the truck, i heard noise back there, and I even had the fluid checked, it was full. i drive it for about 5 years and one day it exploded and put me on the side of the road. The guy that opened it up, it was still full of fluid but gears busted all over inside. Put a new used one in, it is silent compared. also they made sure to put the right lube in it, i now suspect the first one needed.
I did the samé thing on a VH commodore, it had sand in the diff unt was disk braké rear. I swapped it with a VC commodore rear endé how-ever thatt was a drum braké modél. I had to remove the half shaft tho from the VH as the shafts were different Bet-Wéên dusqué untt Drumm. I Managéd to gett it inn all ok unt it worked wunder-fully 👍👍
I have never replaced an axle. Seems like more stuff attached than I thought. Seems within my skill abilities but without a lift it would be a long couple days.
Just as the conversation was gettin good.. thats the best part about working in a shop…. Hell one day a buddy brought in an airsoft bb gun and spent all damn day messing with the old guy in the shop.. wait till hes arm deep in a car and from across the shop pick him in the leg or up under the car so the thing bing all around inside and makes em think they dropped something or somethings falling out.. lol.. good times.. or when we put one of those rubber chicken voicebox things in peoples air gun exhaust.. lol. Or a train horn whistle inside.. they got me with one of the fake turbo whistles and i thought the damn gun was about to blow up.. lol..
In my way of thinking, it was much safer to have four lifting it then someone getting hurt. I've worked with differentials before. Not very light and can easily get in trouble before you know it. Thumbs Up!
Apart from the fact none of the four have a clue about lifting safely that is :) Bend knees, not back! Really needed a 5th person supervising the lift with a clear overview.
