I can't believe Maybourne showed Jack his ball and then asked him to do things with his unit

In the Stargate SG1 Apocalypse trilogy we get to see an alternate timeline where O'Neill was NOT around to take this mission. It went VERY badly for humanity.
@AlexMovitz
@AlexMovitz 3 года назад
That and the mirror to other timelines is what really makes this show for me. All this time you're watching the show, you're seeing the best timeline. You're seeing every time it went in the best possible direction, even with severe losses like Sha're and unexpected casualties Dr. Fraiser this is the best outcome. This is where we win, not the bad guys... but every single other timeline loses. It adds so much depth and tragedy to the series.

Maybourne was not an evil person. Misguided perhaps, uninformed without a doubt, self important for sure, but not evil. If you really watch, he was always trying to do what he honestly thought was best to insure the safety and security his country and his planet, even if he had to bend the rules to do it. Okay, maybe his country first, but he was career military. As the series went on, he grew, learned and eventually he and Jack even became reluctant allies when the need arose. Jack even seemed to give Maybourne a certain grudging respect, if not complete trust, at the end. That change and growth was why Maybourne was one of my favorite semi-regular characters in the series. As someone else posted, "He went from being the character you loved to hate to the character you hated to love."

This whole storyline bothered me in terms of the penalty for this off word operation. Maybourne and at least two others were sentenced to death for it. That seemed a bit much for what they did. I always wonder what happened to Lieutenant Tobias.

@@danielyeshe Its because they jeopardised the security of the entire planet. Its one thing to put your country at risk that's bad enough but the off world operations but the entire species at risk because they were taking from the most advanced races in the galaxy (galaxies - asgard). If sufficiently angered, anyone of them could wipe humanity out in a single day. The risk is incalculable when actions are so brazen.

There's one thing I've wondered about the Goa'uld communication devices. How the heck did they get the image to show the back of someone's head? Does it continually scan your head and project the image? What would be the point? How does it know where to project the image?

Rebecca Duncan it’s silly why? You have to remember that Goauld technology is very much ceremonial In design, people masquerading as gods need to have things designed in certain ways that are less functional and more look cool and intimidating, think the staff weapon, highly inaccurate, meant to keep people in line not kill. The ball is just some kind of digital display with micro cameras imbedded into it, you could probably make something like it with modern day technology,

Star Gate SG-1 wasn't by any means perfect but ... on Amazon - I've watched all 10 years of it at least 3 times. Of course - Amanda Tapping had a lot to do with that but she wasn't the only reason. They had no weak points in their cast. I tried to watch Star Gate Atlantis and ... after the first episode I was done. They had some good people in there but they also had some that ... while I watched a lot of it when it first came out ... not again. .

@@SecondSunofficial SG: SG1 had a 4 person team and all 4 of the actors were great. Of the 4 person team on Atlantis half of them were ... not anyone I cared enough to bother to watch. The problem with Torri Higginson (*sp?) was that while she was fine as an actress - she was playing the part of the General. So - the episodes weren't really about her. The did pick up some with the Arrival of Amanda - but she took Torri's place ... so ... that didn't help and they didn't know what to do with Torri ... I watched the first several years when it came out and ... while there were some really good people on it ... not enough for me to watch. Of course it's far better than SG: Universe. That was a politically correct bunch of crap. .

@@BobSmith-dk8nw thank you... we have similar experience... i also watched full sg1 3 times... and regularly watch some fav episodes when i missed them... but for atlantis, ive tried... cant finish season one... I want to add one point. The villains based on mythologies are a plus plus point! Even with the ori, even not fully, they started with king arthur and merlin... That for me what is lacking from atlantis. Atlantis seems to be just like any other scifi without the mythology element. U know what i was expecting they will discover about poseidon or maybe entire greek mythology in atlantis. We already met cronus as a goauld isnt it? But that never happen. One time, i find out that they discover there are another asgard in atlantis but bad one, called the vanyr, thats not bad. but that only for two episodes i think. Atlantis such a waste opportunity. Universe? I cant even finish episode one.
