Why do we carry a Pistol? For an Assaulter conducting combat ops, he would answer that he carries a pistol in case his rifle ever runs out of ammo or jams while inside a structure filled with hostile targets. Why would you mess with a jammed or empty weapon when you have a perfectly functional & loaded pistol on your side? So, if that happens, he's having a bad day, and he needs to get the pistol into the fight as fast as possible.
This speed comes with proper practice. This proper practice starts with proper training. Unfortunately, many people only train for the "Tests." They are lightning fast doing all the "Pew Pew" timed drills, but fall apart when it actually comes time to perform under stress in the house.
So, we need to train for the unknown and condition the subconscious mind to adapt and respond immediately and correctly.
Back to our drill... We show taking the "Check Drill" and working it into ALL of your training. I don't care what drills we are doing, moving/barricades/etc, you can ask all my students and they are going to confirm that we always add varying round-count in mags and we add dummy rounds to induce malfunctions. That way, you never know when your rifle is going to quit on you. That's real life. Let's practice that way.
This week's video we filmed in one take, with the help of one of our repeat students, Vlad. He is a regular Army Sergeant that spends his own money training with TR, because he does not feel he is getting the correct level of training, from his unit, that his soldiers deserve. He trains with us, then goes back to his unit and passes on his hard earned knowledge. That's a true leader & Patriot right there. Thanks Vlad!!!
I hope you all enjoy the video. I hope you will take it to heart and make it part of your firearm training. I REALLY hope that you never have to use any of these techniques. However, if you do, I pray you step up to the task and get it done. Strength & Honor, TR

Joshua Bressel - true, but then you gota always make sure you have enough, I rather buy more then I really need so I don’t have to fret about always finding them or reloading mags every time. This way I can load a bunch of mags at a time. But I agree they’re pretty cheap, and an excellent training tool

Hey, this is great advice. Learning skills not drills. In my old unit we used to do a "box of mags" session. Basically take all your mags, load them full with live rounds, randomly put spent rounds in and load out your entire kit - then go to the shoot house or do hills. All about finishing. Used to drive guys nuts.
