Relive one of our nation's proudest moments, captured in this compilation of reactions from the Gold Medal hockey game in Vancouver - the most watched television event in Canadian history. With only 24 seconds left to go in the 3rd period, USA scored a tie, forcing the game into overtime. Canada went on to win its record-breaking 14th gold medal. From small town bars to big city streets and homes across the country, the Olympics brought a whole nation together. Just hours away from the Closing Ceremonies, the outburst of pride happened on a scale not seen before. An explosion of waving flags, cheers, spontaneous chants and anthems, random high fives, and a sea of red and white.
This compilation is possible thanks to over 130 clips on RU-vid, which belong to their rightful owners, in alphabetical order: agent42, allancoleroberts, alluradirect, arcticmonkey3, baZ89, BCFieldReporter, bowerdotpower, Boy2in0credits, butchnews, byosko, c3toronto, caniceleung, catherinejs, cheapEgo, Chetwoolery, chica227, chicagometrosports, chrisjholler, clintandlydia, davestang87, daviddunville, davidkazuhiro, dbroox8, dburch34, docuwize, donnyphunk, donttubemein, EmTeeEll, fraseragar, FrasSpaz, Frekosyn, gavinkendall, gerrydbjr, gooseeyedoc, hbs247, hockeyisourgame, holmgrenj, hustlerose87, imhobbes, isostatic, itsmarley, itsnews, japalangous, jaskiew63, jbeazlie, jcranny, JDH1973, jimineysmoke, Joxershorts, jvanderbanck, katefia, kepenate, klingelingelingk, kylestadnyk, LeonaShanana, Linescrew1, lostadventure76, lucasmicaiah, MagnuM3996, maliciousmandy, maow, mapapa84, marksthespot, masey9, mcangel22, me2525, metricjulie, mikewu610, MissPuckBunny, MitchB784, mjguillette, MrFreshlysnipes, mscarleen, MsLouLou1975, mstabo, muheroxanderpander, mzablat, NorthwestBlu, NunzioRaso, off2theairport, oliviamaybourgeois13, oorbelt, orphangordie, osannalai, PalliKahlone, pcanalichio, PintoPonyProductions, RayVanEng, rodrog1956, sabu1983, SantaClaraBroncos, ScenicHD, sergedenis99, Shilson, sketchysunday, slickbear83, smandylor1, SnowSeekersInc, SpaghettiBlue, ssouci, sspyndel, sugarshack221, TakingOverCAST, TFDurden, themrslafferty, ThePamperedPuppy, TheRandomRobert, TheRandsLand, tientse, tobiaspuga, tobywardfamily, tombol1765, TrevorKwo, trigurrrl, twerquie, UlmanAylin, uwogazette, vancanucks2010, vancouver1907, wheaton26, whistlermitch, whistlersquamish, yvrconnections

I don't think the 2010 Olympics could have been scripted better. It's on home soil, we broke the record for most gold won by a home nation and the final gold we won was by our most popular sport. these Olympics brought us all together a little closer

As someone who is from Vancouver and was there for the Olympics. This is so true. The feeling of Canadian pride in the city was something that made you feel like you could do anything. I think that’s why our athletes did so well.

I remember when I was desperately trying to get home from work to watch the gold medal game. I wasn't going to make it, and I felt a bit saddened as I walked into a Superstore to pick up some groceries... but what did I find when I walked into the store? Televisions set up EVERYWHERE broadcasting the game. The entire store, aside from the game being broadcasted over numerous TVs, was dead silent. Almost every customer in the store gathered to watch the game, as well as almost every STAFF MEMBER. The checkouts were almost empty. There was probably one or two open with no customers in line. Everyone was watching the game. When Canada scored, loud applause erupted throughout the store. When Canada won the game, there was so much cheering in the store that you would've thought you were at the game itself. Man, I love my country. Crazy how hockey brings us all together like this, but it does and I love it. I'm really patriotic, and the part of this video with the anthem totally brought a tear to my eye.

lol, I can totally relate to this comment. the day of the gold medal game I lied to my boss told him I was feeling a little bit under the weather & wouldn't go to work. so I got to watch the entire game, it was way worth it! BTW .me too Daniel the part of the video with the national anthem totally brought a tear to my eye. to be honest still does.

I was working at Sobeys in 2010 and one of the major Olympic games sponsors had set up a display with a large flat screen tv for some of the games. I wasn't working the day of the men's gold medal game, so I was able to enjoy it at home. But watching the women's gold medal game, huddled in a mass with customers and employees, was an experience.

That's how Canada is. Both the US and Canada are immigrant nations, and I always thought that one video encapsulates our culture as a whole. We are often quiet, reserved, and polite... except when it comes to hockey, and then we go apeshit when something truly major happens on the ice. You could be muslim, sikh, agnostic, zen bhuddist, anything, and for that one moment, that goal showed that no matter where you come from, we are one nation. THAT is Canada.

I will never forget the day I saw a Flames fan hug an Oiler fanatic, or a die hard Leafs supporter embrace a Canadiens hopeful. There was no Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec or Ontario, only Canada. No on rioted on Robson st, the red mile, or Whyte ave, and for once, Toronto was not the center of the universe. it was just Canada, and we were Canadians that watched history occur on a sheet of ice in a rink we had Imagined in our dreams. But, it wasnt just Canada. Our brothers and sisters to the south deserve much appreciation. Without the USA this game could never have been what it was, specially after they beat Canada earlier on in the games. Now we stare to Russia and as the clock rings in 2014 I can only fantasize about the Oylmpic hockey this year. Thank you team Canada for the Tournament and game of a lifetime, and thank you USA for being there to challenge us, drive us, compete with us, and maybe most of all, aggravate us. In the end we can at least agree that we all dislike the Russians hockey team!!

Loufoca13 Yes, 80% of the country was watching *some* part of the game (26.5 million viewers), and 49% (16.6 million) watched the whole game. To this day (2015), the gold medal final remains the most watched television event in Canadian history. The previous record was actually just 17 days earlier, when 13.3 million Canadians watched the Opening Ceremonies. The third record was the Closing Ceremonies. So yeah, Vancouver 2010 was something special for Canada!

They hugged us, took photos with us, celebrated with us, serenaded us, and everything in between! The most fun part of the trip was the 2-3 hours we spent just trying to get home after the game. Oh the memories! I love reading everyones stories of where they were when this beautiful moment happened! Now I wanna share my story where I was when We won! I was at the hospital visiting a relatives and we where all watching this game on the tv and no joke every I mean EVERY ROOM was watching this hockey game even the nurses and doctors were watching it on their phones and iPads! Right when the golden score happened all joyful went lose across the hospital! I went outside the room and everyone even the nurses and doctors was cheering and hugging and crying and waving the flags! It was beautiful! And all of the families in the other rooms was coming outside their rooms and giving everyone a high five! After all the cheering we all started singing O Canada really loud and proud across the hospital! It was a beautiful moment and I will never forget it! I have never seen a hospital sooo cheerful and alive! God I love Canada! 2010 Vancouver Olympic made the whole country unite and I love it! Bring back the winter Olympic to Canada! CANADA does it best! GO CANADA!!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦

It was a pretty amazing feeling then and it still is today to know that an entire country from Vancouver to Labrador threw hands up in excitement and roared with cheer at the exact same moment on this incredible and historic day. It was truly a moment of coming together as one. There were no provinces or territories. We were simply and beautifully, Canada.

I was at work for most of that game but I watched on my phone on the bus as they came back and tied it and I got home 5 minutes before they scored to win. I had 5 people sitting and watching my phone with me cheering as they scored. The fact that strangers can share so much joy over something is great.

Came back for the good memories. I was in Ottawa at the time, and my friend and I were apartment hunting, and had a scheduled visit to see some place downtown. I don't remember much about the house itself, because we were more intent on the score that they had on TV while we were walking through. We ended up running down the street to the one bar that still had standing room inside right before the US scored the tying goal. The tension in there was palpable. But the jubilation when Crosby scored felt incredible. We ended up walking along Wellington to Parliament Hill, joining in the throngs of people singing the national anthem and high fiving strangers all the way. The cops were shutting traffic down to allow fans to crowd the streets, but most people downtown had abandoned their cars anyway, and the whole city came to a halt for blocks just to celebrate. I have never experienced such pride and unity before, and that night the whole country was celebrating. When we finally catch up to this coronavirus, and we're able to start greeting one another in public again, I hope we recapture that same joy and togetherness that we had that day. It took one shot to ignite the whole country. We will celebrate like this, all of us together again, one day soon. Hang in there, friends. And stay safe.

Looking back at this day 10 years later, it brings back the waves of love and joy we all had in our country and our team. It was beautiful. Seeing where Canada is today with threats of separation and hatred towards our fellow Canadians, I feel truly saddened looking back now. 10 years ago, it didnt matter where you were, who you were, your race, beliefs, political views... nothing else mattered except the love and joy we all felt so loudly for our country. We were one. We were unified in an amazing connection. I hope that one day soon we can experience this type of unity again. And maybe in the future, not just in a few countries, but the world. Let's learn to love and be kind again.

It's a pretty incredible feeling of unity to know that a country was celebrating together in the exact same moment. From St. John's NFLD to Vancouver Island, the entire country threw their arms up in triumph and then sung the national anthem feeling the same glory from one place to the next. This will forever be a historical moment of Canadian unity and patriotism. Proud to be Canadian. No matter where I go.

Was watching the game in downtown Ottawa; when that shot went in, I remember everyone just erupted, spilling out of the bars and partying in the streets. I don’t think we’ll ever have a Canadian hockey moment like this again, this closest we got was Ottawa’s play off run in 2017, 2010 was magic, emotional, a time where the country all came together, it didn’t matter if you were a Sens fan hugging and Leafs fan or Flames fan hugging a Oilers fan, We were all cheering for one team and one team only, Team Canada, I’m hyped for 2022 and that us True North Boys can win another Gold
