Today we swap out the conductor plate on Xavier's 1999 s500. This car has made it over 195k miles before needing this service or any other major repairs. This should be quick and inexpensive thanks to our buddy Manny. His channel is linked below

The atf wicks up the tcm when the plug seals fail. If your tcm has atf in it, start with replacing that plug first.

I’ve said this before thanks for the hard work and yes your right I had the exact issue with my e55 Amg 2003, flush and fill and new adapter connections fixed it, sad thing is mechanics don’t know and don’t care

So this is a 722.6 trans 1999 ? Is that trans sizing any different front w140 s500 1996 trans so would this conducter plate fit on a 1996 ?

Pete, nice video, thank you! I have a question - is it possible to install a new plug on the plate (when it's on the ground/bench) before you attach the plate to your vehicle just to avoid hammering it later? And also I noticed at 15:00 that oil pressure equals to zero which I guess is not true. This may be an Idea for another video on how to fix that stuff! ;)

I'm not sure about the plug but could find out. This was first time I had watched live the conductor plate being done. Also good eye on the gauge. These seem to start having issues around 150k miles from what I've seen. The one on my car is currently having issues as well so yes it will be in a near future video.

a bit late but no , it's not possible to fit the plug on the bench as it needs to seal from the outside

Totally useless information, most of the time, but nm is the symbol for nanometer and Nm is the symbol for Newton meter. :)

Can you spray the electronics parts cleaner directly on the board? I believe im experiencing the upstream oil phenomenon too and want to pull the tcm

You can. Just make sure it’s completely dry before re installing

What’s the cost of the plate and time of working on it love you guys for doing This, I was ready to sale mines only have 198,0000 and it’s a 97 I’m going to keep it now😎

Cost of parts is $100-200 depending on car and where you buy. Fcpeuro.com is a great site that gives lifetime warranty. Time is about 2-4 hrs but very easy to do on own.

All the 90s Mercedes have transmission issues PREVIOUS c220 c280 300se s420 s600coupe 300e -the 600 coupe all gave me transmission problems trans seal ext...now I bought a 300sl 5speed or if u want one buy one with the trans already bad because I think is not if it's going to go it's when ...
@petescarport
@petescarport 4 года назад
Actually these transmission are extremely reliable. 95 and prior don't have the conductor plates but are 4 speeds. The 5 speeds will last 300k or more but need to replace conductor plate at about 150k. Not too bad.

Best place is to go to fcpeuro.com. Each car will be slightly different but about $150 or less for everything

Did you have to reprogram the TCM?
@petescarport
@petescarport 2 года назад
We didn’t have to but I’ve heard many times you do. I believe it has to do with what codes it causes. Some may need to be cleared through system and others just go alway.

@@petescarport I finally figured out the old issues with the transmission. I replaced the conductor plate, oil and filter and I still did not solve my problem which was not shifting when it's cold. So I finally found out it was the gear switch shifter!

Pete how about listing all the parts as I am going to do this and I wrote them all down but maybe you could scan the receipt so I could see all parts thanks.

So what I did for my 96 s600 was went to fcpeuro.com and purchased the conductor plate kit with all the gaskets. This wasn't my car but I think Xavier ordered it from fcp. Hope this helps. They are the best for high quality and price.

I don't but it's pretty much same process on each car. Main difference is removing exhaust and heat shields.

I replace the conductor plate and made sure all my solenoids were working properly after I was in limp mode I still have the P0743P0753P0758P7063 error codes which are all shift solenoid‘s. I’ve tried the icarsoft to reset these codes to no avail I did see where it was mentioned that no transmission reset was needed but I cannot get rid of these codes I have the same vehicle 1999 s500
@petescarport
@petescarport 2 года назад
I don’t know why but sometimes a reset is needed. I’ve discussed this with a few mechanics who all say they use there software to do a full reset each time. But I have also heard and experienced myself no need for reset on some cars.
@BrianKReese

@@petescarport Bunch of people told me to get a icarsoft scanner but it does not appear to support my model I’m not sure which reader I’m going to need that supports this vehicle

I have the icarsoft and swore it has yours. I have it at my shop but have never used it on a w140 to do transmission reset. My mechanic who’s a friend has a very expensive snap on one and he reset it for me but I can find out

@@petescarport from what I understand how the icarsoft menus work the first three digits are the chassis number there is a 220 S class up to August 2002 however this is a 140 I did try to connect under these other menus but I was unsuccessful.
