I like the dialogue for the "you think i care" option. That's the closest i think he comes to feeling defeated. He just kinda goes "damn that's cold as ice..okay"

I've played Lonesome Road almost six years ago and I still haven't finished the main mission beyond it. The DLC felt like a complete ending of sorts and the battle of Hoover Dam is just an affirmation of what you chose in the Divide

I wish they had some extra dialogue options from perks such as Sneering Imperialist or SPECIAL skills that could sway the outcome of this. It would make it so much better.

As a FedEx driver, Ulysses is a contradicting idiot who can't decide whether you should be punished or it doesn't matter. I'd have less of a problem of he just make his damn mind up. As an irl courier, I disavow and admonish him.

It's been many years since I heard all of these dialogue choices. Maintaining neutrality is pretty difficult. Need high charisma. But it's so WORTH IT!

I feel like Ulysses respects you more if you do this path. You've not aligned with anyone, walked a different path than anyone, and yet have convinced him to stand besides you.

why does he never blink or express any emotion whatsoever. also the fact his face is always facing the player is uncanny

When I first played Lonesome Road, I didn't care about Ulysses. He just drawled and it was so boring. But after I actually started listening to what he said, I started to like Ulysses.

Its funny, but this engagement almost seems like a metaphor for history in and of itself, how often do we progress only to cling to the similar symbols of the past to guide us to the future without realizing how in the past such symbols failed us and others. I look at Neo Nazis or those whom bear the Confederate Flag, Ukrainian Banderites etc and I can't possibly see how they see a future in any of those symbols, they are relics of a failed past and the world itself would never condone it again without a fight, but we forget how often those caught between the war of such symbols are warped and shaped by them. I can sympathize with Ulysses, NCR, Legion even House its just the beginning of a new end, oddly enough he chastizes to the Courier because of his nihilistic indifference to the nations around him, when he himself is taking the most utter nihilistic action, oblivion for nothing. Destroy the West the East conquers and then eats itself, destroy the East, the West moves forward and then becomes engorged with heavier bureaucracy as it reaches out farther and farther. In the end he is trying to create history by repeating it, but we already seen what wiping the slate did in the Fallout universe. Sure mankind adapts of what it knows, but only through trial and error do we ever continue on. Caesar oddly enough realizes this more then the NCR does, that Vegas will change the Legion, though even he is assured he will know how, that is the thing about human history though, things come out of nowhere. I bet if you told a Legionnaire a few hundred years before the Roman Empires collapse that Barbarians from the East would cause it, you'd be laughed at, or if you told King Louis the 16th that a little lieutenant of an artillery regiment would be the next emperor of France, etc. We are our own worse enemy when it comes to fate, we always think what will won't happen, and even if we know it will, we cling to hope that justice will be on our side in the end. Ulysses merely is trying to put fate in his hands, and gamble the lives of millions(I assume) to control the road of history.

Honestly ulysees is just really funny, you can tell they wanted a serious and cool villain that had a point to his argument, but he just ended up being that one edgy kids that sits in the back of the class drawing gore emo oc. He contradicts himself, talks in riddles, and overall just seems like a man who had too much time to think. Also Ulysses was not meant to be portrayed as just a scared irrational man who lost his home, his special stats are perfect 10s and is set up as this badass god among men

Ulysses is a very complex character and thats why hes my favorite. (Spoilers btw) He has conflicting ideals and tries to reason to himself which ideal holds sway over him. On one hand he still supports Caesar's Legion (somewhat) and on the other he regrets leading them to discovering Hoover Dam.
