Side by side comparison between Conker's Bad Fur Day (Rare Replay) and Conker: Live & Reloaded (Xbox One backward compatibility). Support the channel: ko-fi.com/neogamer / neogamertvga
Yeah; back then Rare was really good at squeezing out every last ounce of power from a system at the end of its lifecylce. The N64 version was also pretty damn impressive considering the limitations of the system. The draw distance, expressions, the fact it had full voice acting... not to mention while it did have slowdown, its frame drops are nowhere near as egregious as Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64 or Jet Force Gemini.
@@christaarez1391 Which is idiotic because they could have had any company make a new ip. Instead they spent a billion dollars on a company with amazing ip yet never use them.
I find it amazing how Rare was able to make a faithful recreation of Conker by upgrading the textures and yet they went with a new design for Banjo in Nuts and Bolts
That’s because they already did a remake of conker and wanted to try something different with Banjo. Sure I prefer the original game but I love the nuts and bolts artstyle
@@Ariesguy41499 According to the developers, they said that they did go with a higher resolution model of Banjo and Kazooie when they were developing the original draft of Nuts and Bolts known as Banjo X. They said that the higher resolution model apparently lacked the original charm the n64 version had.
@@YaBoiBrendo "The Remake is worse than the original in every way" how? Only point I can think of is the animations, they are a little stiff, more than the N64 version, but that's like the only thing the N64 has over the Xbox version. The remake looked like a Xbox 360 game, and the music and controls are far better than the N64 version as well. And some parts of the game are improved greatly (Like the Saving private Ryan part).
@@YaBoiBrendo “The fact that the remake is worse than the original in any way is unacceptable…” you literally just stated the remake was worse than the Og. In fact, you said it was a “fact” lol he didn’t misread anything.
Xbox version looked good enough to be 360 era. Just beat it actually. One thing I think I liked a lot more about the original is the more comic book style text bubbles.
@@birdsofdestiny6816 no we did not, the rare replay one was literally just a port of the original xbox remake of conker bad fur day, this game is literally like 15 years old
It's actually wild how much better the N64 version looks. The characters are more expressive (Conker doesn't even have bloodshot eyes when he wakes up with the hangover in L&R), the cinematography and framing is better, the lighting is better (the Panther King's castle in the Xbox version is way too well lit). I even prefer how the speech bubbles look in the N64 version, making it read more like a comic rather than the scrolling block of text in Live & Reloaded. Even little things are just more charming in the original, like the sign Conker comes across pointing the directions of "Nasty" and "Nice" rather than where just the wasps and bees live.
Orignal conker vs remake is like original lion king vs remake.Remake has better and more realistic graphics but the original was more expressive and had better facial animations. Also the more cartoonish visuals are more fitting.
yeah but graphics isn't the only thing that the remake improved on, it also fixed one of the biggest pains of the n64 version: the shooting controls, I dare you to prove to me that the n64 version of it's war is superior to the xbox version gameplay-wise
The downside though, is if you're stuck playing the original Conker on Rare Replay, the controls for looking around....suck. Not an issue in Live and Reloaded. So it's a trade off. Not an issue if you're emulating on a PC or something, or just playing the original on an actual n64.
I think the N64 Panther King looks a lot scarier. He has more teeth on display due to not having much in the way of lips. And while lips can be good in their own right, if you look at one shot with his mouth open, some of his teeth are just stubs. Less lighting and decoration also make his lair look evil rather than a luxurious place you’d want to inherit.
4th wall breaks are the peak of comedy, and both versions did this well. Unfortunately, imo this joke is the only time the remake is better than the original
Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it very much and would like to request the entire game. The amount of passion that went through to develop such a small and charming game continues to astound me to this very day. There are no other games like Conker's Bad Fur Day and that's what makes it so memorable, so unique. The Rare in the '90s and early 2000s left a lasting impression on how game design and presentation should be.
I put a lot of hours into Live & Reloaded's multiplayer, even just playing with bots. Apparently the original had a pretty sweet multiplayer mode for the time as well, never tried it though I appreciate how overwhelmingly charming the original is, but I grew up with the remake and personally prefer it - even with the censorship
I feel like the concept of "HD remake, but there's some parts different from the original to throw you off" was ahead of it's time now that we're in the post-N. Sane Trilogy world.
The only thing I hated and I feel really hurt the remake was the absence of all those multiplayer modes. The remade campaign is awesome and the graphics at the time blew me away on my CRT tv. Either way we need a re release of both the original and the remake cmon Nintendo and Microsoft!!!!
I think the original looks better overall for the early chapters, but Spooky and ESPECIALLY It's War look miles better in L&R. It's pretty obvious the War chapters got the most attention. I much prefer the new German Army look of the L&R Tediz, Conker looks really great with a full army uniform (he looks like Capt Miller from Saving Private Ryan), and the atmosphere is just better. I also like Conker's Van Helsing outfit in Spooky. I really like the mix of cute and gorey with L&R multiplayer. Old War best setting.
Sure the Reloaded may have better graphics & nice little details but lacks the creative camera angles/cinematography from cutscenes,& some of the characters are less expressive. Reloaded's realistic look is awesome, it stands out yet..doesn't stand out. There's a certain color to the old (in some areas) that makes the environment stand out-cartoonish. Which may just be bias nostalgia for cartoons but thats why I fell in love with this game in the first place. As for both games N64 would get a little dark w/ lighting & Reloaded was a bit too bright. Gotta say I like the old Tediz more, they should've kept the same concept but just done up nicer lol Wish they could do the N64 one up, just the same. Except maybe add a few features to multiplayer: allow option for all players to be on same teams, allow offline & online multiplayer options, maybe create a couple new multiplayer games,& still include the super scary AI hard mode options lol
The N64 version is just so much better the chat bubbles were better with text at the right time + the font the overall subtle dark kinda theme about the game gave it this special vibe
I got the Xbox version today with Games with Gold. Oh god it's such a fun game ! It looks beautiful for a Xbox game and it the tone was completely unexpected. (I've never heard of Conker before)
both are very good but the design change of some characters bothers, because the n64 version had the cartoon style, if they kept the original style it would be better
Would be nice to see original on Nintendo switch. It was a N64 game first back in the day after all and I’m sure it won’t effect Microsoft’s competition one bit. Plus they do have there green eyes focused on Sony after all.
With Microsoft and Nintendo being all buddy buddy as well as banjo kazooie coming to smash I bet they could release both banjo Kazooie and Tooie As well as the original conkers bad fur day on the switch
I want live and reloaded - reloaded and remastered on series X WITH MULTIPLAYER. Edit: looks like Insignia might be on it? You’d think Microsoft would be getting on this but .. “Insignia Project.”
I remember my childhood friend and i had so much mf fun on the 2 player thing, i remember playing the maps by myself sometimes it used to be so funny seeing the character get his head blown off😂
this faithful remake is much better than any released today. I'm so surprised by the quality of lighting and textures for a game released in 2005 for a now 21 year old console. The gameplay fine tuning was very welcome too. It's honestly embarassing for some devs nowadays.
not only was the n64 version more expressive it was also more atmospheric, the scene at the throne lost so much emotion by being too bright and far from conker, the scene leaving the bar in the rain was way too bright as well, while the xbox version may have had good shaders for the time it doesn't hold up now so all it has left is a stale looking world with blank faced characters. Not like this is anything new with remakes, sacrifice charm, meaning, and emotion (and sometimes gameplay/story features) just to have better graphics and playable on a newer device.
They should also make more expressive. I noticed that it needed actual eyeballs since, beside Conker, everyone has early 3D flat eyes that is somehow more emotionless. If they make the characters more expression, have less censorship, and added any cut content, and I will buy that version of the game.
I believe one of the bigger problems was also the inclusion of more bat combat. In the video you see the remake has those guard enemies that require you to fight them. In the original there wasn't such combat.
I feel we should get an HD remake of conker with options to have either uncut, N64 censorship and the live and reloaded censorship. If that does well then we should get a new conker game but knowing Microsoft and Rare nowadays that will never happen
I played the remake many times over before I ever played the original. Despite what others have said here about the charm of the original, I've never been able to get through it. The originals control is less refined and responsive and (at least to me) is no where near as enjoyable to play.
@ĞØĐŁÝĞÆMƏŘ the controls were perfect given the controller not to mention the xb1 version has almost the exact controls as the remake you're just trash.
@ĞØĐŁÝĞÆMƏŘ yea I could do all kinda of crazy stuff on the OG. In fact there's tactics for quicker aims using the c camera control at the right time to get perfect flicks. It's not my fault no one cared to really adapt to it. This is my favorite game of all time if they did a remastered version and kept everything from the og they can take almost all my money.
Too bad the xbox has less exageration in animations like... U know.. a cartoon in 90's Lighting in xbox is good, but things that are supposed to be darker is bit too lighter In aesthetic perspective, i honestly prefer original since the remake did not exactly captures the original direction. But they sure are trying to, just probably not sure if they should stay true to material or make it more.. realistic some might say
Expecting realism in a came where all the characters are all wacky and cartoony seems kinda stupid. So in truth the "realistic graphics" don't really make that much of a plus for me. Sure it looks nice, but the original was more vibrant where as everything on the 360 looks kinda muted with all the shading. Not to mention that Conker and a few other characters are way more expressive in the original.
They also changed the soundtrack, to something more orchestral and less simple as the Nintendo 64 version was, I do prefer the original soundtrack. I've just got a modded Xbox, I will have to play Live & Reloaded since the N64 rom for some reason won't go beyond the first scene, it works fine however on an emulator for the PC, Project64.
This biggest thing to consider though, is people playing on an Xbox. The version on Rare Replay is the original n64 game, but they fucked up the camera controls, making it kind of a pain in the ass to play. Live and Reloaded may lose some of the charm, and Conker's animations are less expressive, but it plays well. So it's a trade off if you're on Xbox. Do you want the game that has a janky camera, but better animations and more charm? Or do you want a game with a proper camera, but less interesting animations and less charm? The constant loading screens on the remake kinda suck tho.
@@secoTheSonicFan lol how is atmosphere, art direction and animation "superficial"? Its part of what made the game legendary in the first place. Controls are better in live and reloaded tho
The Xbox version destroys all of the excellent texture work the original had. And Conker just looks...off. I'd prefer the original as it's the peek quality of Rareware texture work.
