Connect a Subwoofer to Anything... Easier than you think 

I'm not joking when I say I've been trying to work out how speakers are connected to each other/amps/subs etc for 3 days without things making a whole lot of sense, and this one video has me understanding everything to do with subs perfectly. Much appreciated!

You can also just y split RCA cables without issues. If you have active speakers and use an analog input, say from your pc/laptop's headphone / audio jack you can just split them to the active speakers and the sub.

Believe me, subwoofers can literally always be installed. I use a pair of edifier s1000 active speakers (they have no output at all). I paired them with a subwoofer from a Swedish brand "Audio Pro", that only has a 3.5mm input. Since i only have inputs on both devices, i will not be able to feed the signal through the speakers in a loop. Therefore i just seriously used a 1x 3.5mm to 2x 3.5mm splitter, for like 3 dollars. This made my signal play on two different speakers at the same time (the sub & and my edifiers). Some argue that this will lead to "mono", however Stereo worked perfect, i tried a simple "right to left test", no problems here.!

Trying to do pretty much this same thing... except.... The Polk subwoofer I want to use is entirely wireless. The only cord that is connected to it is the power cord... no input or output jacks. My soundbar, ZVox AV155 does have pin plug output jack for it's intended subwoofer. Any ideas on how this could be make to work...??

Ok, I try that with my cheap ass Mohr subwoofer ... the settings etc. ... I may later change to a Polk matching the new fronts and rears ... ... finally some understandable instructions.

I used Yamaha im good with soldiering wires it not hard to do i did the high filter on the rears I do hole repair on sub and speakers

Hi Randy. I purchased a Fosi BT20A amp and Sony SSCS5 speakers based on your reviews. This $200 dollar system sounds much better than my $500 Sonos Five. I am going to add the Sony Core sub-woofer SA-CS9 with an in-line bass blocker. The SSCS5 speakers go down to 53 Hz. Question: 1) Can you recommend what size first order high pass filter should I buy for this system? 2) Where can I purchase high pass filter online?

Cheapaudioman- any recommendations for how to connect a 4 Ohm Passive Subwoofer to a 6 Ohm Active Subwoofer Sony SACS9? SACS9 will be connected to the sub out of my Denon AVR. My situation/problem is I have an old Subwoofer that just has Speaker Wires (Non Powered Sub) and I just recently bought a Sony STR-DH 790 Receiver and obvious has Sub Out , but I don't know what to do to connect it to the Receiver since the Sub is OLD SCHOOL. Nice video. I have bose acoustimass 5 series v speaker and Rx v385 Amp. Subwoofer did not have sub input and reciever has. What i did is connecting the sub and the Am to the front speakers on the reciever, the sub output is not use, the center speaker is not use, the surround is not use too. Can I connect a powered sub to the reciever so as to use the surround speakers. Am sorry I dont know if am making sense cos I don't know anything about speakers and recievers I just believe my reciever need more

The back of the Subwoofer looks, Exactly, like the one, Pictured, On the Left-Side, ln the video, On RU-vid, Titled: Subwoofers Audio Source E lnfinity(The sad-thing about this video is it's in Spanish and l don't understand it, @ all). Well, Anyways, l was wondering, lf l could just hook-up, Regular, Speaker-Wire and Just place it, Directly, lnto the Subwoofer (+ and -), To the Stereo(+ and -), Without using the VAC-Adapter? Would that cause a, Potential, spark or shock-hazard? ...and Would that, Kind-of, hook-up fry and mess-up my Stereo-System?

Hooking up my JBL 500W sub to my Denon receiver (AVR-x1600H) and there's no sound coming out of it. The sub says "Subwoofer Input" on the back, not LFE. There is also no place to plug speakers in on the JBL. My receiver has a Sub 1 Out and a Sub 2 Out, both are black. There are so many settings to deal with that it's mindboggling. There's "subwoofer level" (-12 dB to +12db). Config: Front speakers =small, Subwoofer=Yes. Crossover: Front=60Hz. And that's just some of it. I'm going to call Denon tomorrow but honestly this is too complicated for me. I don't have any patience for it. lol

Forget it...I'm going to order the Monoprice which is about $80, and call it a day. and send the Yamaha back to Amazon

I have a bose 700 soundbar. I have a Klipsch SW350 subwoofer ( self powered). I tried connecting through wire via Bass out 3.5mm RCA out. Connected to sub in RCA ( left and right). Hardly any thump .. when I checked connecting the same 3.5mm RCA in my mobile headphones jack I am getting a decent thumping of the bass. I tried adding sub via bose app, as I read on some chat forums that they connected sub with cable and bose app detected the subwoofer. But I am not getting any response on the sub... Try connecting a sub to a set of powered multimedia speakers running on fiber optic or dig coax without analog out on the speakers...and have the volume sync'd up. Almost impossible. The ONLY way to add a sub is to use an external DAC...

Just play youtube tone. When the speaker can't play any lower, that the limit for the speaker base. then set your subwoofer at that frequency where the speaker loss the low end signal.

How can I connect a 5.1 speaker system (which has a center speaker, a subwoofer and 4 satellite speakers) to a computer that has simply a 3.5 mm line output? The 5.1 system has qty: 3 3.5 mm male jacks that each require a signal. I don't care about the realism or the spatial effect that a home theatre might offer. I just want all 6 speakers to work.

Randy, another option to the 'inline' capacitor high pass filter is to put a higher power resistor in parallel with the capacitor. This will be kinder to your amplifier at low frequencies. For example if your speaker is 8 ohms, and you want 50% less bass, you will put an 8 ohm 50 watt resistor in parallel with the capacitor you're using.

You mentioned high level inputs can be used to hook up a sub. But what if the integrated amp had only a pair of binding posts? Is it feasible?

I know it’s not the best Sub but it’s got Bluetooth and it’s “Wireless”. There’s no buttons on it. It is just a Link and Pair. And the link just blinks and the pair doesn’t do anything. I have no soundbar. And I really want connect it to my phone and use it in tandem with a Bluetooth speaker and the Sub. Is this possible

hi, i want to Connect car active subwoofer (JBL S2 1024SS) to my Sony soundbar HT-RT3. The soundbar no line out or sub out terminal. JBL soundbar just have RCA input terminals (it use 12v 20A Power DC). the soundbar have some speaker output Left and Right is 35 w, 2.5 ohms. So I only have one RCA type input for one cable on the back of my receiver but on the subwoofer there's an in and out RCA input. Where do I connect the cable on the sub? The "in" or the "out"?

You all need to try HSU subwoofers. I have 2. They blend in so smoothly! They make my movies sound incredible. My little Revel center channel sounds like a huge wall of sound. I don’t know how they do it. I’ve got Revel and Definative technology subs and they don’t even come close!

I have been doodling ideas about how to connect my TDK S60 Subwoofer into my Panasonic SC-PM45 shelf stereo system to work with my Sherwood DSS250e speakers that I purchased new December of 1988. Replicating the circuit to accept speaker level inputs and using a capacitor for high pass cut-off sounds possible, maybe a sniffer circuit to pick off the signal and reproduce a line level output to head off to the subwoofer... although the Sony subwoofer that you talked about might be a good idea... I have some old National black and white television equipment looking for a home... you don't want that do you? Just thought you might be into that ... I am in Melbourne, there are direct flights to Dallas...could just put them in stowage if you had some contacts in the airlines...
