Whooo Hoooo!!! First hike of the season!!! My friend, you do NOT mess around!!! The 6 mile “scenic detour” would have probably killed me alone!!! Whooo hooo number 2, there was some AWESOME drone footage!!! What a great opening shot with the blue sky and puffy clouds, the lake in the background and mountains for as far as the eye can see!!! Once you think you have seen all the mountains, there are MORE!!! The color of the lake is amazing, and the sea of pines is breathtaking!!! First BT of the 2023 season!!! Love the shot at the 1:43 mark!!! MAN, that is gorgeous!!! That trip around the lake added more miles, BUT wow was it beautiful!!! My Mom and I both noticed the bear country sign. We have been watching a lot of RU-vid videos on bear encounters. It is late spring early summer, and the momma bears will be out and about with their cubs. If you are going to make an error in calculation, better a gorgeous place like that and not downtown Baltimore. Hehehehe… Nothing against Baltimore, it just isn’t that pretty. 😊 Oh, we loved the walk by shot over the stone bridge waterfall!!! That is so beautiful. GREAT shot!!! Were you relying on paper maps or GPS maps, just curious? You seemed to get back on track pretty quick. Was that off trail path as rough as it looked? It looked pretty dang steep and covered with debris. It looked like you were in total no-man’s land when you two were crossing that fallen tree. That was some SERIOUS forest you hiked through. BTW: that was a pretty cool shot of you two crossing the tree!!! For a second, we thought Lolly was going to call it a day when you got her on that log and she started up hill, then decided to head back down. I think she wanted you to lead the way!!! 😊 Was that as steep as it looked? If it was, wow, you got a month’s worth of cardio there. 😊 The trail you found did not look much better than the path you were just on. 😊 We noticed some of those trees you climbed over appeared to be cut. It seems odd that the forestry service would go that deep into the woods to cut down a tree. Is there a reason for that? It seemed like you were in the middle of nowhere OR was that tree covering the trail? If that was on the trail, kudos to the people that maintain the path. It also must have hurt a bit climbing over all that firewood. 😊 That is all I could think about for a few moments. How many cords of wood would that be!!! Yikes, you were not kidding. That was brushy as heck!!! There could have been a family of 4 camping right next to you and you would have never noticed them. 😊 Great place for the witness relocation program for sure. Two feet off the path in either direction and you could be gone forever!!! Ahhh, it must have been awesome to find that water!!! Lolly sure enjoyed it!!! I am sure you did too!!! Hehehehe, great idea adding treats into the water bowl! Awesome shot with her on the root of the tree. She looked like she was about 6 feet in the air but looked tiny compared to the surroundings!!! Okay, the opening shot was pretty insane, BUT I think the shot at the 7:04 mark was the money shot! It looked like there was a mountain on top of another mountain!!! We loved the surrounding greenery and all the trees!!! Just breathtaking!!! Was it a bit cooler when you crossed that snowpack? I mean was it noticeable? It would seem like it would be refreshing to cross that after all the hiking you guys just did!!! Geeze, the views keep getting better as you continued down that path!!! My Mom and I both commented on the extra walking you needed to do to do the walk-by shots. That shot at the 7:54 mark had to be a killer, since it was insanely uphill!! Lolly looked tiny up there. Wow, the view off the peak was breathtaking for sure. Hmmm, I may need to recast my vote for the money shot. The previous shot was gorgeous, but this one is pretty spectacular!!! A lesser man would have turned around sooner. You get the ironman award for sticking to your plan and going the distance!!! Wow, two-hour drive home after all of that! Man, I bet you would have killed for a shower!!! What a beautiful place to recharge your body and grab a bite to eat. That must have been so peaceful up there. Did you run into any other hikers that day? You looked like you and Lolly had the place to yourselves!!! I think Lolly may have wanted to rest a little longer. I think she knew she had to hike back down. 😊 Hehehehehe, that trail sign on the way down looked like it was a member of the witness relocation program!!! 😊 Just as beautiful going down as it was going up!!! You even included a walk-by shot around the lake!!! We did not expect to see any of those on the way back. Great shot!!! Love the overlay pointing out where you just came from!!! That is FAR!!!! You looked pretty happy and a little beat when you made it back to the car, and understandably so! What a great hike!!! What a great way to start the season off!!! I know it wasn’t as intended, but from our point of view, it was AMAZING!!! WOW, 14.4 miles in that terrain and over that elevation, WOW!!! You two must have headed straight to the porch bed when you got home!!! I bet you slept like babies!!! One side note. When I was first researching that area, I found a story by David Paulides. He is a former FBI agent who wrote a book about people that go missing in national parks. He had a story about a guy in the Cabinet Mountains that still gives me the willies!!! I think the name of the video is Missing 411 or something very close. Good story to tell around the campfire or Halloween!!! You will sleep with one eye open that night for sure!!! Absolutely GREAT way to start the season!!! We cannot wait to see the adventures 2023 takes you guys on!!! Oh, and for anyone who did NOT watch until the very end, you missed some AMAZINGLY BREATHTAKING drone footage!!! Those might be the money shots!!! You know it is a great video when you have 3 candidates for the best shot of the video!!! Great footage and great music!!! As always, you CRUSHED it!!! Be well and stay safe!!!

Whoo hooo!! Haha I bet you would absolutely crush the scenic detour!! It may not have looked like it at the end but I was slowing way down! I'm so glad you enjoyed the drone footage! I don't use it as much as I used to, but they compliment footage really well and provide such a unique perspective! I'm so sorry, but neither Tessa or I knew what BT was 😂 It's probably so obvious. The trip around the lake was beautiful. My favorite part was the little cedar grove we got to see! On a map, this was VERY close to the Ross Creek Cedars Nature Walk that we did a couple of years back. Thankfully no bear encounters this go around! We both laughed pretty hard at the downtown Baltimore reference 😂😂 I was solely relying on my Gaia GPS offline map that I had downloaded on my phone. It's always been really reliable! The off trail was pretty rough, yeah! I was not having it. Haha. It was steep, and just really thick. So many spider webs too!! I was so happy when I found it! The trail the rest of the way up was better, but not by much it seemed! I loved the tree crossing shot too! Yeah the shot where Lolly slipped on the long was a lot more steep than it appeared on the video! She almost said, "See ya later, Dad." There's a few ways that trails can be maintained, and some of it is by the Forest Service Trail Crews, but most of it seems to be by volunteers and folks who go out and maintain the trails for people like us to enjoy! It's something I feel like I should go do, to give back! Haha I'm always thinking about firewood with trees like that too. Truck filler for sure! Or Logging Truck Filler more so. Glad you liked the 7:04 shot! I didn't even remember filming that one.. and then I saw it and was thrilled about it!! I didn't really notice the snowpack to be much cooler! However, Lolly did for sure! She wouldn't stop rolling around in it! The walk-by shots are so much fun! The one at the 7:54 mark was suuuuper steep. Oh man the two hour drive home was a rough one.. It was the late evening and I hit a deer... (small dent and it ran off thankfully).. and then a bird hit my window 😂 I didn't get home until 9PM.. and then I had to work a 48 hour shift the next morning.. and my friend.. I had never been so exhausted! Haha. I completely did it to myself. We absolutely had the whole mountain to ourselves! We didn't see a soul. However, there was a vehicle parked at the correct trailhead when we were hiking back, and I figured they were hiking to Little Spar Lake. Lolly was tired for sure! Haha the witness relocation program 😂😂 Glad you liked the walk-by shot at the end! I didn't know if anyone would realize that was the peak in the background so I included that! Glad you saw it, too! Man, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I was thinking to myself.. "I really hope MonGo WonGo and his mom enjoy this one! Oh man I am so intrigued by this missing hiker story in the Cabinets.. you bet I'll be looking that one up! It sounds bone chilling. Glad you enjoyed the end of the video as well my friend!! Thank you so much for watching, and I can't wait to hear from you on the next one. Hope all is well. Danny.

@@DannyJSchaefer Hehehehe, I don’t think so. I would probably still be laying there on the side of the trail, BUT I am working on getting in shape! I am in shape now, it is just round. ☹ Big chuckles! BT = Breathtaking. I use it so much in your videos, I am afraid it becomes cliché. That and all my !!!. Meriam Webster called and said I have already used my allotment of exclamation points for the year. 😊 We could not tell you slowed down. It seemed you made it down much quicker. Hehehehe, yes, you may run into a bear while you are lost, but at least you wouldn’t get shanked in a dark alley. 😊 I hope no one from Baltimore sees this. 😊 Ah, Gaia offline maps. I have the app. Good to know they are reliable. It is nice that people give back and maintain the trails. We plan to do the same. Hehehehe, yep that would have been at least a truck filler, maybe 2 of firewood. Oh wow, that is cool, that even you get surprised watching the videos! That was an awesome shot for sure! Ahh, that is where you got the short of Lolly rolling around. I forgot about that video. OMG, you hit a deer. My Mom and I were just talking about what driving would be like out there! Glad the truck came out unscathed and super happy the deer ran off. Most of all, we are very grateful you were alright! Good Lord, a bird hit the window. Wow, I would have needed to change my shorts when I got home. First the deer, then the bird. Yikes!!!! Oh man, getting home at 9 PM and having to work a 48-hour shift!!! I could only imagine how beat you were!!! Awesome to hear you had the whole place to yourselves!!! 😊 Your graphic overlays are always right on point!!! OMG, we watched it together on a Sunday night I believe. We had a bowl of ice cream and enjoyed the adventure!!! If you are interested, here is the book: Missing 411-Western United States & Canada: Unexplained Disappearances of North Americans that have never been solved. Here is the movie trailer: Missing 411: The Hunted: Not sure if YT allows URLS. As usual, excellent filming and editing. I've been making poor choices too, on my hikes this season hiking up the Yaak. Too much for this early in the season. 😂 Then, I did Grambauer trail 319 near Troy, yesterday and I'm going to have some second day sore tomorrow😊 Thanks to this video I'm going to have to do this one too. 💚. Thanks for all you do. This was fantastic!

Good to see you out ! - My GF is up there on a girls trip right now...(Glacier) Since I know very little about that area ( & I appreciate the hike, as well as the lack of humans) where is the best access point/Airport for that area ?
@DannyJSchaefer
@DannyJSchaefer Год назад
I appreciate it! Late start this year, but the snow is nearly melted so it’s game on. Your GF was just a few hours from where this was. I’d say Spokane International Airport would be your best bet, but I think some small flights may go into Missoula, MT. Didn’t see another soul on the trail. Thanks for watching, and good to hear from ya!
