The Aston Martin DB 5 # 261 made Corgi the dominant company in the die-cast toy market in the late 1960s and 1970s. The Aston was released in October 1965 and became a huge hit with children. To turn the subtitles on or off in your language in the movie, please press C on the computer or the three dots on the mobile phone in the movie.
In the first year of production, 2.5 million copies were sold. It was full of features and a miniature work of engineering genius. Most of the diecast cars at the time (especially the Dinky cars) had very few (if any) gimmicks or features. The Aston Martin had a sunroof, catapult seat, bulletproof tailgate, and telescopic bumpers. Including the ejected passenger, it was the only toy everyone wanted for Christmas 1965.
The victim of the packing of all these elements was the spring suspension "Glidematic" - instead, a plastic suspension was used. A pity as it was a weak point 261. With age and use, the suspension cracked or damaged.
The DB5 from the movie was silver, Corgi painted his model golden. The silver paint Corgi originally proposed looked too much like zinc metal. Not having enough time to find a suitable paint by the models' release date, Corgi painted it gold in reference to the title of the movie "Goldfinger".
Meetoy has improved the livery of the preliminary model. The Aston Martin No. 270 was equipped with even more functions and was silver in color. All functions from the 261 model remained, but in addition, the license plates rotated - as in the movie - and a pair of spikes was added to the rear wheels to destroy the enemy's tires
My model had all the features of a heavily used toy. The suspension was cracked, the tires were missing, some of them were out of this model. The plastic parts of the launcher were broken. Thanks to my friend from Switzerland, I was able to make a copy of the missing passenger and to replenish the launcher that was not working. To complete the whole, I also made a box compatible with the first version. Thank you for watching the movie, I publish videos with the repair of cars on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

I remember the original. The car was a bright gold. The box also contained a stick-on lapel badge/patch with something like 007 printed on it. Corgi made loads of film and TV vehicles, like Green Hornet's beautiful Lincoln (I think) that fired a bright orange rocket from the front grille as you pushed down on the front of the model, as well as a sort of orange circular drone, I suppose, with triangular spokes, that shot out of the boot (trunk), when you pressed upon the rear of the vehicle. (The objects were orange, so you could find them more easily). Plus Lady Penelope's 6-wheeled pink Rolls, the SPV from Captain Scarlet, and another one (sorry, can't recall the type) from The Man from UNCLE. Corgi also made The Saint's white Volvo. Folks, I'm going back 50 or 60 years, here, but can still remember this stuff. It was FUN. Now kids just look at a pc screen.

All the Gerry Anderson models were Dinky. Corgi bid for the licence and had already got as far as developing a steering system for Fab 1 that would turn all four front wheels. They lost out to Dinky and the Christmas battle that year was between Dinky's Fab 1 and Corgi's Batmobile.

I was lucky to have my father working as a Production Engineer at Mettoy in Swansea when I was a lad....He occassionally took me into the factory on a Saturday morning when he had things to catch up on and showed me round the various production areas..I got many of the new Corgi models before they came out and the Bond car was one of them....Usually they had some small damage present that meant they would have been scrapped....Happy days with the old man working in a toy factory!...

It's amazing that the borrowed parts belong to a swiss friend... Switzerland is in fact the country where part of the movie "Goldfinger" is set. In a scene, 007 was driving his Aston Martin while held at gunpoint by the henchman of the villan, Auric Goldfinger, who is "addicted" to gold. Also this particular die cast might be painted in gold (and not grey/silver as usual) as reference to Goldfinger. As always great job!!!

Great restoration. From memory, I am 61, my Aston wasn't shiny. It was more matt, a bit like some of these modern paint jobs. It may of had a shine, but not much.

I played with this toy when I was a kid, bullet proof pop up panel on the back, machine guns popping out from behind the headlights, ejector seat, and triangle number plates that could be rolled over to show three different plate numbers. It was a gray car though not gold. I'm guessing it was a different make to this one. The doors also opened on the one I played with.

Gruß, Joachim Bardzo dobra renowacja Astona Martina, z uszkodzeniami powypadkowymi. Świetna robota, której rezultatem jest przywrócenie Astona Martina do stanu kolekcjonowania. Po prostu dobrze wygląda, w komplecie z opakowaniem! Pozdrowienia, Joachim

Like the restoration job, 36:26 nice work, believe it or not I have James Bond's gun, a few years ago I bought a Walther PPK 380 from a retired homicide detective, it was his backup gun he kept in an ankle holster, do the same thing I own a jewelry store and I'm wheelchair bound, but the really cool thing is the serial number starts with 007 so I say I have James Bond's gun. I enjoyed your video. I hope to more.

I had one when I was a kid back in 1969ish. If I recall correctly it was silver. My sister accidentally dropped it down a sewer. I was sooo angry. My dad wouldn't open the manhole to get it back. Later some workmen came to do maintenance on the sewer and I asked them if they could find it. A guy went down and said he couldn't. I always wondered if he just pocketed it and said no. If not, it's still in that sewer. It was brand new when it went in. It was my favorite Corgi.

Superb restoration of one of the best diescasts ever made. The only faults are the model itself's original production. The tail lights should be 3 round vertically stacked lights. The exhaust pipes are on the wrong side, which might be a concession for the bulletproof screen mechanism.
