WHY does it take three and a half years to "investigate" these people? That is three and a half years the council is losing housing for a family in need. Once a person is suspected of fraud they should be blitzed immediately, the council have stated they can investigate by the push of a button, push that "button" and get the job done, all this dithering about is costing money and causing distress for everyone concerned.
lifetime ban from claiming all benefits if you are found to be cheating the system. And the local councils should be getting all the money back plus interest!
Phil Storer, agree and if the person is a dual citizen; UK citizenship, visa, & presence in the UK denied with immediate arrest and deportation & forbidden entering the UK forever.
That will never work if children are involved,. because we live within a government that try to ensure children don't Starve and are warm and safe, Putting them in social services also isn't the answer
I been homeless nearly for 2half years moving from one place to another my family have suffers from this . and now finally I got my home and permanent and I'm so greatful . and there's people that take a right piss out of people that need a home that can't afford a home of there own these people make me feel so sick and I don't know how some of them get away of it.
Sitting empty for years, subletting for years...why aren't you doing quarterly inspections for proper tenancy and maintenance? I own several properties I rent out and regularly check on them.
@@juseenthankulendiran Ya, nothing is more pain than a landlord who forgets he gives over the rigth of usage when they rent out. Once a year they are allowed to have an inspectioon. I throw them right out if when they open the door without my permission. Best is to change locks when you move in to avoid noisy fuckers like that
🏘️How close is 'several' to 2,400,000? I ask because that's how many Council houses are in Britain . Under David Cameron deep cuts in funding began and still continue. Two million four hundred thousand council houses 🏘️
I don’t understand how this could possibly happen. Don’t they check your history when your application is going through Housing. How does someone end up with multiple houses in the same system. It’s insane
How do people get three social housing properties, Why isn't this stuff checked before they get them and I think they need better penalties and longer in prison and banned from ever getting another social housing property. We were on a list for 8 years before we got a place. Why is the investigation so slow?
When I think of the massive amount of fraud that existed in the past. I could write a book. Having worked in Social Housing for 26 years in East London. Probably still exists now. One chap obtained 5 council flats in 5 different boroughs via the homeless route. There is a need for joined up thinking. Right to buy was another area. Another case was a man who sublet his property and we took possession. He went to live in Scotland. When he found out he wrote to housing and said he had wanted to keep the house in case his business failed. He was not happy that we took the flat back and said that if he came back he hoped we would oblige him by giving him a flat. I mean you couldn't make it up if you tried. There are plenty of false waiting list applications as well. The list goes on.
Mr Johnson-Beke should have been jailed for at least 18 months, not a suspended sentence. They have seen his financial statements so he should have been made to pay back some of the money lost by the council during those years, he owns two properties so his assets could be sold or auctioned off by the council. I’m so 🤬😡, I could never be employed as magistrate could I?
What about the $80,000 pounds Mr. Johnson made illegally renting out the properties? He should have to pay that back plus an $80,000 penalty! He really got off with NO penalty!!, no wonder people do this if there is no REAL PENALTY 😮😮😮😮
UK has to get it straight and should have better way of finding out if someone has 2 flats or a better system for applying because this shit is crazy in AMERICA it's a miracle if you get one FLAT they make sure they check EVERYTHING the last address u lived in they check and if it's big enough you'll be denied stating u can stay in the living room n they'll pay for you staying there it's crazy but they make sure u not getting more than 1 flat
Yes, they shouldn't be allowed to have another council house. Once you get a council house, your name and photograph should be sent to every council house people all over the UK. That way if you go to another council area and apply for a house. They can see that you already have 1. I'm in Queensland Australia, and the housing crisis is bad here. Lots of overseas people buy the houses. Then pay the estate agents for the house. But put extra money in and get them to put a chain around the gate. They never set foot in the property what so ever. All done over the phone. The new home owners still overseas. 1 property I was keeping an eye on, was abandoned for over 10 years. Lawns never been mowed. I asked the council about it. They said the owners were in China. I showed them photographs of the house. They said they would try and contact the owners. The house was a 4 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms. A family in need could have been living in the house. If the person who was duping the council, had it done to them. They wouldn't be happy would they. Rents here for a 1 bedroom granny flat range from 300 up to 500 a week. Us pensioners can't afford that. The cost of living goes up, but the pensions don't. There is nothing in Australia to help us pay our rent. Like in the UK 🇬🇧. 😞
Ironically (considering this programme) a lot of people are the kids of council house tenants pretending to live with them for a year to get a cheap mortgage
The councils should now check all the council tenants with the land registry records to link up the owners who has got council properties too. This way if these people choose to register their private properties in other people's nsmes thrn they could potentially lose thst property and it is not easy to get a morthage in that other person's name too. This way the council will get back lots of properties for this who really needs them
I'm on my local authority's housing register for a 1 bedroom flat. This abuse of social housing right pee's me off. Glad that one of the offenders was chased for £132k under the Proceeds of Crime Act. I hope he had to sell his Essex home to pay for it. The jail sentence was the icing on the cake.
Why do you think you are entitled to publicly subsidised housing? I suppose you expect us to pay you housing benefit as well! Here's a radical idea, why don't you try paying your own way in life.
Generation Renter I completely agree. I think at the beginning one guy was only charged to pay 900 and change. I think if you defraud the government you should be 1 in jail and 2 charged for any money you made by having that many houses to sublet. Its ridiculous how easy some people get off. Even here in USA
baldieman64 I believe that if you are able body to work then you should be working. I get some assistance may be needed. But I've watched the farther series in this and find that people work only 20hrs a week. That is ridiculous! In USA a majority of people work 40hrs but with debt they create they can hardly live. But I do agree assistance programs should be to help you get on your feet not be a way of life living off of others. If you're disabled that is different.
The custodial sentence will never be long enough and let's face it some councils actually give such types a chance to have a council flat when they come out .The fraudulent types should have a long sentence & be made to pay back all the money they have made ,This double tenancy would have been impossible here as the computer system of the area works and they are linked and used .However one has to´´´deregister and register when moving .
Why aren't these investigations done when the application is first filed? Also why isn't there a national registry of housing tenants for councils to cross reference... do better vetting up front to stop fraud... you rely too much on the applicants word and honesty
SAYANG SAYANG the council should be checking on council home people regularly. There is nothing wrong with that. It keeps the tenant accountable for their actions and it benefits those tenants if the housing is not up to livable standards.
Since they don't have enough people to spot check housing, neighbors need to be vigilant. Every time social housing authorities visit they should leave a form that says contact us immediately or be evicted. Then they can set up a home visit. Some of these social houses/flats are downright nasty. They need to put a cleanliness clause in to keep out bug and rodent infestation. Failure to let maintenance people in should be grounds for eviction. There are plenty of people out there who will play by the rules.
You already know he's been subletting, I've never heard of so many people that sublet, than in London, but when they hand out Houses like candy, it's no wonder so many people take advantage
You'd think the shame of sucking off the taxpayer would encourage the morality in a person to finally take personal responsibility for their greedy corrupt soul or flat-out laziness, but the key word here is 'morality'.
Why is it? All the ''fraudsters'' are mainly non white. And their faces are openly shown on the show. If it's a white person committing the offence, their faces are not shown on the show. In addition, the ''fraudsters'' shown are mainly black and the ''Good Guys'' in urgent need are always white and perceived as poor little victims. Why does this show only feature areas of London where there's a high number of non white people living there. Why not make this show in areas, where there's a very tiny number of non white people living. Before anyone comments on my submission, watch a few of the shows and see for yourself. This is not the only show this happens with, is all across UK TV and other media, where the non white person is always vilified.
People who were oringally born in Britain should be offered the homes first because u can’t just come In our country and expect to get a home before all the ppl who lived here first
what is truly ironic is that the gov have all these spying/tech abilities, but dodgy housing situations seem to continue. Surely things need to be investigated before any tenancies are granted..maybe we actually shouldn't be that bothered about our privacy being that it seems to be so hit and miss..Sound is awful btw, even when adjusted, so cant watch any more.
This is why we have such a chronic housing shortgage. Keeping homes off people in geunine need of them. I had a neighbour who was subletting his council flat to other families whilst also having another council flat in another council area who then advertised it for rent on facebook marketplace.
This lady and her mop, does she not realize that everyone can see she's got a huge ponytail crimp, in her hair, I don't understand why she fees the need to take her hair down for the camera, maybe she's got some funky ears
We really need to stop right to buy theres so many exploiting it. There are many ways to buy homes on low incomes now so social housing should be reviewed after 5 years to see if the tenant still needs it.
Please live in my world tennents strip your property's and claim reant of the cousel and don't give it to me to pay my mortgage up two 2 years the council don't cer I feel like I'm scared to tell you
I dont understand how two guys with fairly similar crimes received very different punishments. The first one had to pay £900 and the second one went ro prison for 2 years? How does that work?
Sorry just wondering was the reant up to date and was he calming housing benefit or playing out of his own pocket please if you acted the same with private landlords and helpt them there wouldn't be a home shortage please help ech other not destroy ech other
I think if you were born in Britain then you should be given first priority on council housing .. I have heard of people who come from other countries with family get a council house then they say they have separated and get another house and sublet the first.
christina honigberg exactly how Americans feel. Since everyone thinks Trump is a bad guy for wanting people to come here legally, this is a great reason why. Just like people who are born there should be getting the jobs before foreigners do, right?
Britain needs interfaced computers that when they pull up your social security numbers . I feel safe knowing that they see that I am widowed, orphaned, RN for 38 years until becoming permanently disabled on SSDI. I have no debt , I drive a 4 Runner 2006 that will be 18yrs old in January 2023, luckily I don't drive much, so it only has 106,000 miles. With inflation especially in SUV's , I will need to replace all 4 tires & they won't be Michelin. I paid off my house we built in 1997 I have the title & my brother/POA has a copy of car deed. I won't touch my IRA unless I'm over 65 & it is a true emergency. I receive $2,400 in benefits & I'm very grateful 🙏. I wanted to work until I couldn't. I was in charge of a Operating Room , I was always on my feet, bending, lifting , & standing for long periods. My cervical neck , thoracic vertebrae , lumbar vertebrae, & sacral vertebrae are all ruptured, torn herniated,my tailbone feels like a hot poker stick & hairline fractures. None of which cane be fixed. My back has severe osteoporosis. A patient that didn't want her surgery (Alzheimer's) death grabbed my right fingers & bent them back to my forearm. ER Doc put me out of work until cleared by hand Specialist. Unfortunately. I suffered a Left Ventrcular heart attack. I had no previous heart problems, but work comp refused to pay for cardiac work up & my hospital insurance refused to pay. I got injured on 4/4/2007 .I had to pay $5,000 of my own money to get cleared for my cardiologist to assure the anesthesia I wouldn't die during surgery. It took me a lawyer ,6 years of living on savings & , a IRA withdrawl before I got my deserved benefits. The judge apologized for the 6 years I suffered & paying $1,200 per month via private insurance .Unfortunately he had to stick to his budget & could only back pay me for the past 3 years instead of my deserved 6 years. In US if I didn't have my house ,car ,savings to pay for my healthcare I would have lost the case for not having a paper trail. But, everyday I was grateful, as a nurse I know how lucky I was to have resources. To this day I will not sell my appreciating home. I get calls daily there is a shortage in 2 acre wooded lot homes. I want to stay in my ranch style with tile to roll my walker.
I wouldn't call the Beke sentence "a successful outcome", it just reinforces that anyone can come to this country and milk the system without consequences.
12:13 God I hate neighbours. If I only had a penny for every curious look I've gotten.... I love to have my curtains in the way all day, one time a covenant accused me of "anti-social behaviour". I'm the nicer person all the time until my surroundings start to think they have power over my private decisions....
Under new rules housing money is paid direct to the tenant not the private landlord. If the tenant simply stops paying they go top of the waiting list for a council property . Housing won't make the tenant pay any money back that was not passed on to the landlord . The landlord is unlikely to take a benifet tenant to court for the lost rent . Free money paid by tax payer backed by the government.
Many families who Tennant's sublet too, has been their lifeline , they could be at risk of being homeless many families lie to get on the list so just because they are higher on the list doesn't make them more desperate Omg he didn't throw his son out on the street What a horrible man 🙄
4.5 million social housing units in the UK Let's assume a full time staff member can do a walk thru in two hours, including travel time between and reporting, so 4 per day. Let's also assume they don't get much holiday time and they're never ill, so 250 working days per year. Each worker can visit 1000 homes per year. Visiting every house would require 4500 dedicated members of staff. We assume these people are unskilled but making a living wage with no London weighting, so £22k per year. £99million per year to hire these people.
They have similar in the US - it's called subsidized housing/Section 8. Many years ago, my friends lived in a townhouse in a nice area - about 20 years ago. Great area, neighbors, schools, etc. Their 2-bedroom townhouse was about $1000/mth. A couple years later and we noticed things changing - section 8 families being moved in and around the same time, some of their neighbors noticed things going south, sold their homes and moved out. Their next door neighbor paud $7/month rent due to government subsidies - partied every day, did nothing, etc etc. And many new residents like them caused a decline in the area. I'm all for taking care of those who need it, but people abuse the system.
badjujuwan that is sickening that they let people live like that. I commented on another that if you live in assisted housing like our section 8 and their council housing then the council/housing authorities should be going in regularly in making sure that the people DESERVE,are respectful, are truly in need of these programs. We see what happens when we don't do that. It also protects the tenants, that if the house is not to livable standards for a family then they should be getting what they are paying for. Bit mostly to protect the housing authorities because these people don't care. It's a roof over their head they barely pay for and like you said, they party and trash places. Its disgusting! We didn't develop these programs to be a way of life. They were to help people to GET ON THEIR FEET. In one of these UK housing shows they had one where they went back to how it was designed in 1949 and you had to get a job. And they would teach you, buy clothes for your job, so that you could keep it and get off assistance.
@@juseenthankulendiran Also if houses are build on green belt land….who pays for it? The tax payer. Then what about all the new schools, hospitals etc that need to be built and staffed as a result, extra policing? Some people seem to think the government owe them something for nothing….
