This is a prime example of just how underrated the Volvo 5 Cyl.Turbo is. A mechanical masterpiece! Who would suspect a car with such poise, class, and comfort could thrill so much? I've owned BMW, Benz, and Volvo. Volvo was by far my favourite. Great video!
The only FWD car I wouldn't think twice about buying. I miss my 850 wagon. That thing was a brilliant highway cruiser. In fact, I may actually buy another one.
@@diablocls55 i share this opinion, i have a 10v auto myself, awesome, only downside is gas milleage, but i love the ammount of storage/room it has, once your driving it you forget that it weights 1460 kg's
best cars ever imo love 5cyl love volvos sleepers from factory but well engineered to last remember buying them crashed for hundreds now i want one they are thousands
Whatever car-manufaturers invent... there'll never be as cool sound as a 5-cylinder (believe me... never). This video providing 5-cylinder-sound boosted by a turbo is just music in my head. I love it...
Thats because it is a 2.5l litre turbo Inline5 engine from Volvo in the Ford. Almost the same design as the 2.3l that was orginaly in the T5 over. Love those engines, power all the way and a sound that is just perfect!
I would love to find a crisp Volvo 850 I had 3 they are reliable cars very safe I was t boned and they totaled my Volvo I hopped right out and ran over to see if they were okay haha
Going on 10 years later, my S70 is ready for a big turbo to do something kinda like this. All the supporting mods are there (including clutch, flywheel, differential, intercooelr, and suspension upgrades). I'm going bigger with the 940 though. Easier to fix if I blow it up. Just doesnt sound nearly as good.
One previous comment says ugly as sin, but I say in a kind of beautiful ugly way. Superb exhaust note, and just love it when he smokes the tyres pulling away. Great vid, great car.
Liners can be a problem, ally block and steel liners. Known to crack at big power/heat due to expansion joint. Lots of Swedes weld them or you can fill them.
@DOHCEJ22E1 Love mine.. picked up a 'beater' '96 turbo wagon for $800. Still has that Volvo reliability and highway stability. Brilliant car, as you said.
i have a 5 cylinder 850 93 with a torqy transmission. lol its fun because if you dont watch it the gear transmission will peel out even going from 4 to 5 you will jump =) aahhh 2000 dollars for a badass car, gotta love volvo =)
Ha, badass. Driving w/ a turbo that big is like a large bore 2 stroke dirtbike. The power comes on INSTANTLY at the right RPM. Hold on. Coolest Volvo on RU-vid
man i was watching videos making time, waiting for a call, but this one is really impressive.what kind of mods does the car have?is it still being the 5 cyl?greetings and thanks for sharing
Rods are about the only thing you need to change. Bottom end and transmission is good,, need a LSD though ;). One of our forum members T4 revs to 9.5k rpm on bog standard bottom end and another members T5 revs out to about 8k. Same turbo on both cars hence the low rev limit on the T5 before boost drop :).
The BEST thing Ford ever made out of Volvo... Was to bring this engine into the new Ford Focus ST/RS. NOTHING has had a sound this bad-ass since the Audi inline 5-cyl's. And it really is a sound to die for, or kill for. Not to mention that it beats the old Cossie engines by a good 120 hp's.
@axionknyght I listened few times with headset and I didn´t find sudden rew that is enough rapid to support NOS theory. You can hear turbo whine and chance to third or fourth gear and after chance it starts to burn. I think there is no dump valve to lose pressure and turbo is allready loading and has no need to gain pressure again so there is no lag after up shifting. I admit that you can be right about NOS, but I personally think there is none.
I'm guessing by the way the RPM spikes in such an immediate manner prior to acceleration this thing is fitted with NOS, could be wrong, but a tell tale sign of a kit being used is the RPM increasing so dramatically like that. PS: Awesome motor!
I'm only seventeen and I've been driving regularly for the last two years... Lol. First car ever driven...?: '08 Mitsubishi L200 2,5T, Haha. What fun that was. I now own a Citroen Saxo Furio and a Volvo 850 Turbo. :D Good fucking times. =P
haha unbelievable, Volvo's are great, and by knownots underestimated and beautiful cars and this 850 is amazing, gotta love 0:31 . Volvo for Life, kings of the speedway ;)
