This is a review of the Creality CR-10 S4, otherwise known as the enlarged CR-10. It was provided to me for review at no cost by GearBest.com. Below you can find links to this printer as well as the regular CR-10 and the CR-10S, and coupon codes to reduce the price. Below that are links to the models I printed in the video.

To speed up the bed heating cut a piece of cardboard, same size as the bed, and cover the bed while it heats up. Cardboard is very good insulation so it will heat up three times faster.

Hi, may I ask the power supply rating in Watts?
@BusyBeeCompany
@BusyBeeCompany 6 лет назад
A couple of questions 1) As an inventor, is the software good for beginning designing for one off prints (modifications). 2) What do you use to clean away the supports, craft knife?, Dremel type tool, etc?. 3) Bonus question - Are the finished filament models easy to paint, if not, what coating do you use to let paint adhere, what kind of paint/spray can be used? and can you use a filler to smooth out areas of damage that might occur during support removal?
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
1) I’m not sure what software you’re talking about. 2) I usually pull them away with my hands and/or needle nose pliers, and use sandpaper if there is any roughness left behind. 3) Paint adheres fine but I would recommend using some sort primer first. You can also use sandpaper and filler of some kind if you want a smoother surface

Hello, I have a Creality CR-10S Printer that I can't get to print. The z Axis goes up and down when homing but won't When Printing. It just stays on the first layer. Is this a printer problem or am i doing something wrong in Cura ?

Where's the jumbo rancor skull? It would be great if the cr10 had the same control box/software as the cr10s4 with the ability to swap filaments and resume prints on power failure. Congrats on the new printer as well. I'm still trying to figure out how to get mine lol.
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
Well, the CR-10S is their version of the CR-10 that has all of those extra features. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the vanilla CR-10 was discontinued in favor of it. As for the rancor skull -- I should do that! But I'm afraid it would take a huge amount of time and filament due to the nature of the model.

Mighty Jabba's Collection yeah I just noticed the different cr-10 models. I think your right about discontinuing the original model. You need to get sponsored by a filament manufacturer like Maker geeks lol.

Great and informative video, easy thumbs up! I'm looking into buying either the CR-10S or the S4, any thoughts? I think printing storm-/clonetrooper and first order helmets will be the main task for quite some time but I haven't been able to find measurements for all. Will they fit on the 300*300 build plate of the CR-10S, or do I need to go with the S4 to be able to print in one go? Thanks for the video, you have a great channel!
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
oystein91 It depends on the model. Some helmets will fit on the regular CR-10 and some won’t. Probably the S4 is the best choice if that is what you are interested in because it gives you more flexibility.
@oystein91
@oystein91 6 лет назад
Mighty Jabba's Collection thanks for the quick response! I viewed all your reviews + a couple others, and last night I landed on the S4. Printing masks will long term only be a small part of my total printing and I think flexibility as you mentioned will be key. Only problem I have with my choice is that the decision making went too fast for me to fully enjoy the hunt for a bigger printer :) Bet my Flashforge Finder will seem really small in comparison. Thanks again, and thanks for posting coupons, you saved me $130+ 25% VAT on the purchase. Regards from Norway

great review!! Quick question: I have never seen someone change the filament mid print to change the color. Could the same technique be used to make rafts or build surfaces? For example, if I wanted to make an ABS raft for printing a very large PC model?

How long did it take to vase mode the Jabba? Good deal on the lower price too. Curious on the rather low bed temp and long time frame to heat such a low number. Is it possible for you tell if the same heater set up/pad is being used on the beds? Great video you have me looking at these even more!
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
+NolanC 3DPrint Works I think Jabba took around two days but I can’t recall exactly. I think the S4 does actually have a larger heat pad than the standard CR-10, but it definitely takes a lot longer to keep for whatever reason.

@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
Generally speaking, FDM printers like this are not great at printing very small things, although I'm not sure exactly how small those ships are. Using a smaller diameter nozzle might help with small details. Of course you also need to have the models themselves to print

Does the CR-10 S4 utilize the same controller and drive motors/drive screws & belts as the original? (Therefore giving you the same print characteristics (steps per inch, etc.) as the original, just with a larger potential print volume.)
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
I think so, but I'm not totally sure. The larger models do have wider belts for pulling the heavier beds, but I don't think that would affect the print characteristics
@bobjames1586
@bobjames1586 6 лет назад
I could see the need for the added width in the belt due to the larger platen (and print!) size/weight. Belts are generally not as good at transmitting torque as gears (in whatever format) and I would think that the wider/heavier belt would be desirable to minimize any potential stretch as well. In the set up of the controller, is there a way to calibrate the x and y motions? Or just to calibrate the axis travels in general? (I can think of a chance of needing to extend the bed travel somewhat, which I could do easily enough mechanically, but I might need to juggle the belt and drive sprocket sizes depending on what would be available. (Or perhaps to mod the unit to use Acme/ball screws all the way around.))
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
Bob James I don’t think there is a way to do that with the stock firmware but I have heard of people flashing other firmware with other features. I don’t know the details though. I will say that with the S5 in particular, if you have a very large and heavy model on the bed, the extra weight can cause the bed to move a bit on the belt during fast travel movements, resulting in layer shifts. You can fix this by slowing down travel movement, but that will further slow down printing. I’ll touch on this in my final review of the S5, which is coming up in a little while

So I'm taking from this, 10 minutes into the video, that if I'm printing mostly small parts then buying something like the S4 isn't worth it at all compared to a regular Cr10s? The chances of me ever printing at 400x400x400 is literally never. I'm only going to be printing small parts. Electronics cases, misc stuff, doll stuff etc etc. Should I not shell out the extra $100 for this? What concerns me is waiting 20 minutes for the print to start. I have an Anet A8 right now and it takes about 10ish minutes to get prepared for printing. Not sure I want to wait 20 minutes for a print to start every time.
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 5 лет назад
There is really no benefit to this over the CR-10S other than the size, and there are some minor disadvantages as well, so if you're sure you won't need the extra size then by all means get the smaller printer.

Hello Can you help me with the adjustment of the tires on the base? I don't know how tight they must go, in some videos I have seen that moving one tire and if the others move everything is fine. But this is for the models that have the rail in the middle, the cr10 400 mm have two rail.
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
I think you want it tight enough that moving one wheel will move the whole base, but this only works with some of the wheels. Some of them are basically “extra” and can’t be adjusted

@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
I actually got one of those a while back for review, but it broke before I had a chance to do much with it. Other people have been happy with theirs and it seemed good when it was working, so I can't say that it's a bad machine. But it does seem quite difficult to repair, or even disassemble compared to something like the CR-10. I don't even know what is wrong with mine (basically it now "pretends" to print, but doesn't actually heat up or move any of the mechanisms), and a few emails to support didn't really clarify matters.

Gear Best sure does love to send out free printers to people that do reviews. Unfortunately if your a customer and you give them money they give you nothing but run around about the printer being on backorder and how its the manufacturer not sending them printers to ship. After waiting OVER A MONTH for my TIVO Tornado to ship from Gear Best I canceled the order and got a refund. Never again Gear Best. Wish I had looked into the complaints against GB before loaning them $400 for a month.
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
I have heard from a lot of people that the Tornado is on backorder just about everywhere, because Tevo can’t keep up with demand. But GearBest is also not good about giving people accurate shipping estimates, or keeping them informed about their order status. Sorry it didn’t work out for you

In my research to purchase my first 3D printer, I've read a lot of bad things from people about Gear Best not fulfilling orders, and people having to file PayPal claims just to get their money back. Seems it might be worth it to just pass on Gear Best and pay a little extra to avoid the headaches and weeks of wasted time.

Mighty Jabba's Collection is the cr-10sr 's extra space useful or is it kind of excess?
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
If you mean the S4, I would say it's useful but it depends entirely on what you are going to be printing. I like to make big things, so not having to break them up into as many pieces is nice, but you might not need the extra space. The regular CR-10 is still quite large compared to most printers.
@BIGDW-ie8st
@BIGDW-ie8st 4 года назад
Is there one that you would recommend?
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 4 года назад
Like I said, I'm not really up to date with what has been released recently, so I'm afraid I don't know enough to make a good recommendation. But generally speaking, you should be able to get a relatively inexpensive one (sub-$300) and use that for a while to see what you think of 3D printing, and maybe then move up to something larger. Most people who really like 3D printing will probably want more than one printer anyway -- especially if one of them is a huge printer that can take very long to print

Yes, that's the S5. It's quite a bit larger than even the S4 that I'm reviewing here. I actually just received an S5 for review so that will be coming at some point. I like to give these things a thorough test and print a lot of things before making a review, so it will be a while.

If you use PLA filament, fumes aren't really an issue. But ABS filament is basically just normal petroleum-based plastic, so it will smell like melted plastic. I don't use ABS though, and I think most people don't anymore, so it's not an issue for me.

This happened tome when I bought my Anet A8. They wanted me to pay more to upgrade my shipping. I just told them if they can't ship it for the price i paid then just issue me a refund. next day I got a shipping notice.

+Mighty Jabba's Collection Hey! :*) Yeah, I can (and have) live with slow shipping from China, but I can't live with being told that I have to pay more $ for shipping after a good-faith sale. Oddest thing I've ever had happen for an order from any Chinese company.

I would refuse to pay as well. I think it's also in violation of the credit card agreement to do that. I'm not sure what the deal is because I've heard a number of stories like yours, but haven't experienced it myself.

All the reviews say this is a good printer but having the printer for a month now I can safely say this is the WORST experience I've had with ANY product. NOTHING works properly out of the box, the frame/x axis not alligned, the glas bed is bend, the aluminium bed is a fucking disaster with random highs and lows, the damn controllerbox freezes if you scroll it fast, the temperature readings are all over the place, the heated bed takes 14min to 60c and those are just the things that I can think of right now. If you're not planning to spend A LOT more time and money to fix a defective product this is not for you. This is the stereotype chinese crap version of a cartesian printer. You've been warned

I'm surprised to hear that, frankly. (Well, not the part about the bed heating slowly, since I mention that specifically -- 14 min to 60 is actually a very good time for this machine.) I haven't had to spend a cent to fix what I would call defects, and was getting good prints right out of the box. Maybe you got a dud.
