Our shirt has a lot of meaning “Patria y vida” is now the slogan for all Cubans around the world who are calling for the end of a dictatorship. It’ came from a song that won the Latin Grammy song of the year. It has so much meaning to us. Our Cuban friends at soscuba.store are selling this shirt and more. All proceeds go to artists that have lost their jobs and/or in jail because of the regime. ❤️🇨🇺❤️

I never knew in Cuba beef was prohibited except for the tourists and wealthy. One day I met some Cubanos from church and they told me about it. Blew my freaking mind! The green beans were way underdone! They need a long simmer with a meaty ham bone, onion, garlic, a little season salt and a dash of red pepper flakes... That cream corn? Soupy... Ideally it should be cut fresh from the cob and fried in a cast iron skillet with a little bacon grease and evaporated milk until it's a corn "porridge." It's a restaurant so such is to be expected to a certain degree... Or not... Great-Granny's cooking was the best!

I always get a little emotional when I watch Yoel experience something new that he wasn't able to enjoy in Cuba. His honest appreciation for new foods is so endearing and he has such an innocence about him that just makes you like him immediately. It is rare these days to see someone who isn't "jaded" by life but actually enjoys new experiences and relationships. Mari, you've got a good man there!👍💯 I have noticed that many restaurants are not salting their food as much as they used to do in the past. It's actually a good practice as so many people are watching their sodium intake these days. When I buy potato salad from a deli or grocery store I always have to add salt and sometimes pepper and spices. 🤣. Thanks for another heartwarming video. Take care guys and God Bless. 🤗❤🙏🌎

Peach cobbler and potato salad are two American dishes that are prepared differently in different regions, so don't shy away from them if you see them somewhere else later. If you ever see Something called "deviled egg potato salad" or "egg and mustard potato salad" you must try them. Always seek out potato salad that includes celery seeds as well. For good cobbler, just make it at home. It is the easiest baked desert you can make and homemade is always the best. Simple canned ingredients along with flour, sugar, and butter, butter, butter! It's often the first dish a child is taught to make, it's so easy.

I've never had green beans in a BBQ place, but when we're having a BBQ or cookout, I make them sweet and sour with bacon. Fry up a pound of bacon, take it out of the pan when crispy, saute a pound or two of fresh green beans in the bacon fat on medium heat. When they're just starting to soften, pour in some cider vinegar (I just eyeball it, maybe around a half to a whole cup), and a tablespoon of sugar, and keep stirring until the vinegar is cooked off. Add the crumbled bacon back in, and that's it. I try not to cook the beans for too long so they stay a little snappy.

@@pederdaughter7170 I make mustard potato salad too, wouldn't have it otherwise. I'll generally use jalapeno mustard, or something else spicy. Nance's Hot Mustard works really well. Up here in NY state, we make Grandma Brown's Baked Beans (made in Mexico, NY). They're plain in the can, so we just add brown sugar, molasses, and bake them with a ton of bacon on top. Not quite the same thing as regular baked beans, they're not watery at all, on the thick side, but delicious. We have church and firehouse chicken bbq's every weekend all summer, you can always find one somewhere. All the same menu everywhere, never had a bad one. Open pit cooked Cornell bbq chicken, Grandma Brown's beans, salt potatoes with butter, and a nice soft roll with a butter pat. Usually on the inexpensive side, around $10-12 per meal.

Being a southerner and having grown up with many of those sides...I expected him to hate the creme corn. That he liked it so much, was a surprise! I think the reason my favorite BBQ side, is potato salad...is because it's such a change, from the savory flavors of the meats. The peach in cobbler, is pretty different. Sometimes it is so sweet, or there is sugar cream added; and this can make it a little too much, if you're wanting something more neutral. The beef rib seemed to be a big hit! 👍 Great video, thank you both.
