Curse of the Richardson 112 

Excellent analysis. We have not had an issue with Richardson 112s. They are noticeably stiffer and the buckram "pops" during sew more than any other brand BUT they sew beautifully on our Melco EMT-16x. A little hint to those plagued by broken needles...STEAM THE BUCKRAM JUST BEFORE SEWING. The best part about this is that as the cap cool during/after sew, the stitch seats better!!! Another tip, only use 80/12 titanium sharps. Titanium is critical here as friction does not build up as fast with titanium so the needle does not break from heat. Another tip, check that presser foot. There is a sweet spot on your machine with Richardsons...one click either way from this sweetspot tends to create thread breaks. Final tip, turn down your speed (700-850rpm) turn OFF your bobbin detection while sewing Richardsons. This will keep the tension even and the machine tempo steady.

Thanks for the lessons. Any chance might tell us exactly which hoop system is being used? Is this the Wide Frame hat hoop?

The horrible miserable beast Richardson # 112 is why 'Patches' are being heat pressed & stitched on to caps. Leather Patches and other patch materials are the norm for the Beast 112. The Beast 112 is the most popular cap on the planet. I have no explanation for this. They are uncomfortable and feel like you're in a headlock. And- the company 'Richardson' are very difficult to deal with. Miserable people.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you're going to do a comparison of hats, they should all be the same color at least. Comparing the fact that you can't see the writing will be on a dark front, compared to a white front is the obvious. Lastly is that, that much writing on the front asking the bottom should be told to any consumer or business that it's too much for the structure of the hat and to busy. I won't go spouting off my credentials because that's not why I'm here but I came across this video while scrolling and you asked for feedback so this is it. Like I said, I get what you're doing but it's a poor way for a comparison video. ✌️
