If you turn the light on you can see your cutting line better. That is why it has a light, you should be able to see through your paper to match it up to the cutter, which is why it has a light. ❤ nice tutorial as I had wanted to see what the cutter looked like before buying one. Ty. 👍🏼

A Date With My Craftroom Thanks for the feedback, great to hear from you! If that small cutter did 12x12 I would have ended my search. I think it’s a great cutter. Thanks so much for supporting my channel! 💙

It was good to see the comparisons as I’ve been thinking about buying the Cutterpillar paper cutter. One of the primary reasons is that you can save a ton on replacement blades (I’m constantly replacing mine). I also have a bunch of paper slicers (one of them being the Fiskars that you showed) and all of that “kind” NEVER cut accurate - they are all just a little off square for some reason. As far as cutting ½” strips go, there’s a ruler across the top so you just need to put the paper on the base and then move it to the right ½” and voila - a ½” cut. Thanks again for taking the time to compare it helped me decide to spend the $$$ on the Cutterpillar.

Happy to help! You might also want to check out the heavy duty fiskars orange giant. Price is similar to cutterpillar and some like it better. I’m curious, but have never tried. The cutter pillar is a perfectionist, not rough and tough. ☺️ Be kind to it and follow directions of you get one. 🤪

@CraftingandRelaxing
@CraftingandRelaxing 4 года назад
I like that smaller Tim Holtz one and use it a lot. It can’t do 12x12 and it doesn’t have 1/8 inch measurements. Those are my two issues with it. I am still curious about the big, heavy fiskars cutter. That’s pretty much the only one I haven’t tried. 😂TFW 😊
@kylieb4836
@kylieb4836 5 лет назад
I so agree with the fiskars - the cut is out all the time with my card bases - that’s when I bought the Tim Holtz Guillotine. I then learnt with the fiskars not to line the cards up with the top , but line it up with the grid lines instead - this has helped soo much. I’ve watched another crafters video where she also says regardless of Trimmer, she lines her cards up with the first grid line down and never puts her cards right up to the top.
@CraftingandRelaxing
@CraftingandRelaxing 5 лет назад
I’ve been watching gridlines more and more, funny you should mention that. I long for the days when the cutters were all straight and simple. I’ve been very happy with the small Tim Holtz guillotine and my Cutterpillar Crop as far as straight, nice cuts. Are you using the small Tim Holtz guillotine or the big one?
@kylieb4836
@kylieb4836 5 лет назад
I’m using the big one from Tim Holtz... I’ve even tried using the Carl trimmer at work ( the huge one that costs over $500). I’m glad I didn’t invest in this one either - I thought I’d take all my cardstock and cut it in bulk to save me time - once again, the cut is out.... soooo frustrating. So, I’m back to my Trusty Tim Holtz...lol. I bought the big one as I had quite a bulk amount of 12x12 paper. I was also surprised how light it is to be honest and it packs away neatly. Thanks so much for your video - it was wonderful to see how the other trimmers compare.

I too have a Fiskars cutter that doesn't cut perfectly perpendicular with the paper guide at the top/bottom. Super frustrating. I thought it was me for a long time! I have tried using the grid lines and it's a very fair point that you could get better right angles by NOT using the only-sort-of perpendicular guide BUT (not to shoot the messenger) what popped into my head is there's a good likelihood of the paper slipping if you aren't bracing it against that perpendicular guide--for me anyway. I ended up with the paper slipping out from under my fingers pretty consistently when I tried that. Again, not shooting the messenger, just a rhetorical question: why did they design and build it with a perpendicular brace/guide if you aren't meant to use it or can't rely on its accuracy? I think the bottom line is the quality control is inconsistent from this company. My first, very old Fiskars trimmer cut perfectly perpendicular to the guide but my "upgrade" Fiskars trimmer does not and I'm annoyed at the waste of money and can't bring myself to buy another of that brand. Contemplating what to try next.

@CraftingandRelaxing
@CraftingandRelaxing 5 лет назад
I agree. If I do any narrow cutting I always try to lay a ruler in the paper to help stabilize. I love my small Tim Holtz guillotine cutter for narrow strips, but 8 1/2 is about max length on it. Thanks for watching! 💙🤗

Thanks for the review. I'm on a hunt for a rotary trimmer. BUT I have WRMK trim and score trimmer (and I regret purchasing it) and I have Cricut trimmer. Try Cricut trimmer and it cuts like a butter. It's cheap, cuts 12 x 12 and very slim. Try it.

If you don’t like having an edge just run your bone folder over it and it will flatten it. A Teflon folder is best because it doesn’t leave a shine on the paper. For the half inch measurement look where your paper ends on the opposite side and move it to the right on the ruler. I hope that makes sense to you!
@CraftingandRelaxing
@CraftingandRelaxing 4 года назад
Your pointers are all good. Sometimes I make 50-100 card bases at a time so going over the ridge with my bone folder gets old. 😁 Moving the paper over makes perfect sense. 👍💙💙💙

The cutterpillar is gear driven, you don't have to force it. If there is a problem with the blade they will replace for free. If the grid is not square, they will replace it for free also
@CraftingandRelaxing

They did replace my blade for a very reasonable fee. I was completely open with them that I forced it and damaged. That’s a later video. I share when I do dumb things so I can save others. 😁 TFW 💙

Hello, Just found your channel. I am on the hunt for a trimmer. Mine Is broke and they no longer make mine. So I have been using a little old cheap one that doesn't cut straight and It's driving me crazy. Do like the color of the cutterpillar crop. It matches my craft room. But don't like that the 1/2 inch isn't marked. I don't have a lot of money to spend on a cutter so I really want to watch reviews before I decide on one. Your review has helped a lot. Thanks. I am now a new subscriber.

Welcome! The best all around cutter I have found for the money is the Cricut paper trimmer. Amazing for the $10 I paid so if price is a big deal get that little white one. Some people found the bigger green cutter than I got for thirty-some dollars on clearance at hobby lobby!! That’s a bargain for sure! Good luck on your cutter search! Happy I could help. 💙
