why are they acting like ben simmons role on the team is to shoot 3s? he's the point guard, he's the 5th scoring option on the team, his primary role is to call the plays, set screens, dive to the rim, play great defense and exploit the mismatches when available, the nba is too obsessed with 3s. His game is nowhere near where it will be in 4-5 years just like Giannis a few years ago is night and day compared to where he is now or even last season. Remember this is Ben Simmons second year actually playing NBA basketball.

The premise was that he's being touted as the next LeBron. They're saying he's not LeBron because he can't shoot, not only 3s, but even short mid range 10 footers. It's has nothing to do with whether he'll improve. All players (should) improve over time.

averaging 16.7 ppg, 8 assists,9.2 rebounds! solid and his team is winning games. it works, there are winning formulas that are not like the Warriors. They got enough shooters, its not shooting its scoring. If your team can score 120 pts a game without making a lot of 3's who cares. If teams sag off him, that allows him to keep his dribble alive and make perfect entry passes, or drive into the paint. Everyone knows you don't just allow someone to dribble or hold the ball with no pressure at the top of the key. They have great shooters and also you can rent good shooters cheap in the NBA.

@maplenerd22 5 лет назад
I don't think you want Simmons to post. You have Embid clogging up the paint anyways, its pointless to have another in there. I agree he doesn't need to be great at shooting 3s, but he does need to be better at shooting the mid range, so it would give him an option of either driving to basket or pulling up for a short jumper.
@darkgren5340
@darkgren5340 5 лет назад
it's about spacing. Did you see how the defenders guard him? They are literally 6-8 feet of of him and stay in the paint. This makes harder for Embiid to work down in the post and you still want Ben simmons in the post also? I'm not saying he needs to shooting the 3 at a high clip or high efficiency, just enough to create space for others by pulling the defenders towards him.

Im boston and gsw fan. But seriously lebron has developed into a very good shooter and having a respectable 3pt shooting game. We've seen his progress. Even back when hes younger when he domt shoot the long ball well. He still attempt the shot and shoots at a rate that defenders cant leave him completely open. Ben simmons jumpshot dont exist at all like seriously. And he has been shut down a few times when other team played zone against him when he has the ball and put a bigger body to guard him. He literally cant atk the paint and hes teammates is getting blk off denied of a good pass because ben simmon man is doubling them. And in case you havent realize teams had been winning championship in recent years are very strong 3 pt shooting teams . Dallas , heat , cavs spurs GSW. Dallas killed everyone with their strong 3pt shooting. Sweeped the lakers and shut down lebron playing zone and heat cant shoot the long ball to survive. Time to wake up and stop denying the fact that 3pt shooting wins championship and is a very important factor in this new ERA

Ben Simmons doesn't need work out with Magic as much as he needs shooting range. He is so talented as a point forward , he can direct offense and pass blindfolded. Unfortunately, without shooting range , his ability to facilitate offense will be severely limited comes playoff. And after Anthony Davis fiasco, any team would be wary dealing with Magic. Other teams will no longer separate Magic Johnson from the Lakers front office, because now he IS the front office.

Everybody hates on the fact that Simmons can’t shoot. Okay shooting is his only detriment. Honestly it’s not even that he can’t shoot, it’s that he won’t in games. All he has to do is attempt them and he becomes a bigger threat. Embiid said the other night he’s a 30% 3pt shooter and people still bite on his pump fakes and he doesn’t know why. You can be a terrible shooter but if you’re willing to pull the shot you’re a threat. It’s instinctual to defend it when you’re on the court and you know your matchup will pull it. Once Ben just starts taking them the game will open up so much more which it looks like he’s trying to do. I’ll take his passing, size, athleticism and length all day if his only detriment is shooting. Shooting can be learned over time. Jason Kidd couldn’t shoot for his life but it became a weapon later on

Thank u......the thing that hurts more about Ben is free-throw shooting. If he just makes his foul shots bcuz we kno Boston and Toronto and everybody else he plays against are going to foul him......then he'll be fine. He's become a pretty solid post-up player since last year......now just make your free-throws and you'll be fine until that jumpshot develops in a few years. He just needs to start making like around 70 percent of his free throws for late-game situational basketball and we're good. That's all. The jumper will take a few years to develop......but it will come eventually.

Hello gentlemen very interesting listening to your show. As a x ball player, and because my age I was fortunate to be exposed watching the NBA in the 60s, going back watching Bob Cousy Sam Jones, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robinson, Jerry West Etc. My point is if I'm correct back then, as an NBA player you are not allowed to dunk. As time went on the league changed, the NBA expanded and before you knew it, the NBA became very colorful. Fundamentals of the game was somewhat more defined. Positions,; shooting guard, point guard, Center, and forward. In the early 60s, it was no dunking, I believe as time went on players were growing getting bigger so they had you allow players to dunk. As time went on garbage started getting bigger, Joe Jelly Bean Bryant, from Philadelphia was one of the first to desire and perform someone as a guard in the league did not like it or wasn't ready for it. After that time logic eyes decided that they could do the same thing which is part of the shifting of the game. Yes they are now NBA players that should have been centers or forwards are now designed to handle the ball and doing good at it great. And today's game where dunking apparently is one of the most entertaining part of a player's game, the ability to be consistent in Perimeter shooting is a Must. Ben Simmons has two and must improve his outside shooting or he's not going to read Super Starter. Dunking the ball it's just all it is done that the only addition is additional athletic ability to be creative, but if you can shoot outside and your game is not complete at all it's a must. I hope he gets better. I blame the media or any part of television for continually trying to compare one player with another. Michael Jordan without a doubt is the goat. There was a time Michael Jordan if you remember did not have a good outside shot but to his adversity and determination he became one of the greatest. If play as of today would ignore television in the media and focus on their game they would not be room to worry about who you're better than. Ben Simmons needs to be the best he can be

And the bench gave us 30 points as well. Have u watch the Sixers last two games?......Playing off Ben won't work anymore.......Elton Brand made sure of that.

I dont know what stat is crazier. Lonzo went 1 out of 4 on his free throws and his percentage went up or Ben Simmons never made a single 3 point shot in a game in his three year career. I see why the overseas players are taking over.

Glad they brought up Rod Strickland. Couldn't shoot, was 6' 3". Was a great PG and always highly regarded. Don't remember anyone labouring over the fact that he had no jumper then or now. I think people just accepted players as they were as long as they were effective.

Guys a 6'10 pg with a good game. At 6'10 it's okay if it takes you a bit to learn to shoot. Nobody's perfect and apparently we don't know if he can really not shoot due to a huge lack of attempts

That was a dumb point to compare Simmons to Magic Johnson. Back in 1985 teams averaged 3 3point attempts per game. You can get away with not having a jump shot because everyone's clogged in the paint.

Whitlock says lebron n magic are desperate but to me it’s seems more like the league is desperate for lebron to not get help and every gm and owner are desperate to get magic out of the league so miss me with the “lebron and magic” are desperate theirs players that want to join lebron but everyone outside of it seems desperate to have lebron with a bunch of mediocre players and seem desperate for a team with 5 all stars to be in place. Sad that people want to see lebron fail so bad they don’t even want to see him have a fair shot at a title run

Ben is dense af. He thinks (like so many near-sighted fans) piling up those stats against mediocre and inferior competition is the epitome. When facing playoff caliber teams with long defenders he becomes dramatically less efficient. In those cases even on the occasions when he does get his "numbers" his inefficiencies cause a drain on the team. Compare that mindset to a Kobe or a LeBron who continually evolved their games (WITHOUT BEING BEGGED BY THE COACH) even when they are acknowledged to be the best in order to dominate and win championships and not just All-Star selections.

He should switch to wing. That way, he is closer to the bucket where he makes most of his shots and has a better chance at grabbing more rebounds. This also means he doesn't have to guard someone 5 inches shorter but faster than him. For a perimeter player who can't shoot from the outside and sucks at free throws is a disaster in today's NBA.
