Thanks for this video. I'm now 61 yrs old, and it brings back memories when I was five years old riding "shotgun" on my daddy's back while he hunted with one of these classic dbl barrels. My job was to stay quiet and put the squirrels he shot in his hunting coat pouch. He was born in 1914 and Grandpa had given the gun to him at an early age. I remember it had a kick like a mule. He squatted down on a knoll to take a shot at a rabbit and the recoil sent us both rolling down the hill a few feet. We both had a good laugh about that. Sworn to secrecy, never to tell my mother. Got his rabbit though. LOL. My oldest brother ended up getting the gun when daddy passed. It's been a sacred relic kept over his fireplace.

Day 2000 My days are numbered. I've been running for so long I don't know what I'll do. I still hear the gunshots and that devilish laugh. I had a CZ coachgun that had a factory defect. I wanted the gun so bad I bought it new knowing it had the defect. I thought I could "just get over it". It didn't hurt the operation, just the looks. I owned it for quite a while when that defect really started to bug me. I called CZ and told them the truth. I asked if they would help even though I had excepted the defect. If they couldn't or wouldn't I'd seek a gunsmith to try and correct the problem. They sent me everything to mail it in for inspection. Because it was the barrels that had the defect, if they were to do anything I expected new barrels. They called and said yep it was a factory defect and they'd take care of it. They sent me a brand new gun. I was very surprised and pleased. Best customer service I've ever seen.

This episode took me back to high school; we had an assignment to do a book report like a restaurant menu including the cover. I painted a picture of my Grandpa's L.C. Smith 12 guage double barrel with exposed hammers. The resturant's name was "The Pheasant's Inn".( I got an "A")

I can attest to that. I'm originally from California, but moved to North Carolina about 2 years ago. Back in middle school, one of my friends got suspended for a day just for drawing guns. He was no threat to anyone, he was just a funny guy that liked drawing comics and all sorts of things. News flash, middle school boys doodle.

I have several Huglu shotguns that I got direct from a company rep when I was in the Navy. We would pull into Istanbul and one day they would bring shotguns to sell. Great deals on great guns. I love shooting them. Very good fit and finish.

I’ve had one of these for years, and shot it a bit. As an old timey double gun, this has been a decent shotgun. Word of warning - DO NOT DRY FIRE! You will shatter the firing pins! I feel like that was a user-induced problem. My coach gun has remained tight the whole time I have had it, to include the very stiff safety. I put a leather side-saddle shell carrier on this, and it will shoot 3” magnums, though you might not like the recoil from that. I haven’t loaded black powder shells into this yet, for want of reloading equipment, but I think it will shine with shells in “holy black.” It’s light, it’s handy, it’s a lot of fun, and beautiful. This is my wife’s preferred means of home defense, loaded w/ Hornady Coyote Buckshot rounds. I guess it’s more reassuring to her than my more modern guns.

Wen we were kids ther was my grandpa’s ole shotgun and we played with it he dies so ther was no shotgun shells around we were like 5 and 6 years old playing cowboys me and my moms sister is a year older I’m going back to maybe 1964 anyway we knew nothing all we knew it was a gun so wen you are that old we never seen how the bullet worked so we had a big old double barrel Damascus shotgun can’t remember the name I sold it to a fried years later in my 30s the pins on both sides were toast they were like all flared and split we used to put a big spike down the barrel and tried to shoot it it sounds dumb but wen your a Kidman’s we were not around guns so we didn’t ever see anyone fire one we thought the hammer was what made the whole bullet go you understand so the guy is right don’t dry fire it we spot that thing day and night it looked terrible I hope my friend restored it it was a original 1800s double barrel shotgun not sure the brand I know it had engravings and it had Damascus bales marked on it we didn’t no ther was no one around for miles so it was just a toy to us being ther was no shells

I have been enjoying all CZ firearms for about what, 20+ years now. I have enjoyed learning about the pieces those two brothers designed for Czechoslovakia. I forget their names now of course, but they were brilliant.

It's amazing in the westerns that the stagecoach shotgun rarely ever hits any badguys but yet the badguys usually pick off the stagecoach driver and shotgunner with there six guns from a running horse! In reality, a double barrel 12 gauge with buckshot would be capable of taking out one or two men along with there horses with each shot!

I happened across a rossi overlander at a local gun show. I never seen many westerns as a kid, but the external hammer coach gun is just awesome. Fun to run out whistle piggin with a cut shell in one side and a bird load in the other.

Always a joy seeing your enthusiasm and knowledge on firearms wether new or old, and seeing you just having a grand old time smoking pots as it were. Living in England, we can only dream really of being able to enjoy such things, or go through extensively difficult loops to try and become members of the few shooting ranges and gun clubs here.

In the UK you have a de facto right to own a shotgun like this. There is no requirement to join a club or own/lease land - that is only the case for the separate firearms license!

I've always liked the coach gun style. I had one by stoger in the nineties that was very accurate. It loved slugs and 00 or 000 buckshot.

You are by far my favorite RU-vidr. I've always been interested in firearms, and enjoy shooting. Especially shotguns. When I was a kid, my dad would take me shooting skeet. I would get to shoot his Winchester model 12. Anyway I'm starting to ramble. Your videos are not only educational, and informative, but very entertaining. Please keep up the good work. Life is good.

I have 3 Savage 311 side by sides and I love them. I have a 12, 16, and 20 gauge. They are family. Shotgun smoke is the only firearm smoke that smells good to me.

Glock isn't hype but I'm more of a CZ guy. I have this street howitzer, three hammer-fireds and, yes, one striker (CZ P10s). Glock 21SF threaded barrel fires like hell's hammer and that slimline Glock 48 9mm single-track is really sweet. Then again, I'm also fond of SIG Legion P220 in .45 cal.

It would be awesome to see a 16 gauge or a 10 gauge sometime still love the video tho shotguns are my favorite firearm by far nothing beats a double barrel hammer gun or a good pump gun.

My CZ was also stiff. I tweeked the barrel forestock stock hook with thin small file. This took the pressure of the receiver barrel hinge. Barrel falls wonderfull.

What a beautiful gun! I'm really impressed the way it shoots slugs. Where were you aiming. Apparently rear sights are an option when it comes to aiming?? If y'all are looking to buy one of these, he's not kidding about how tight they are. I had mine for years and it just never wanted to loosen up, so I sent it off to Johnny Meadows of Camp Verde Gun & Repair in Camp Verde Arizona for an action job. Now it falls open like the old Rossi in this and other videos. I also had the chambers polished and chamfered for faster reloading, and it was well worth the reasonable price.

I have an older Chinese knockoff of that double barrel, and I'll tell ya it's still the most fun 12 gauge I have to shoot. Being able to drop both hammers at the same time has the best sound, albeit the shoulder anyways. Great shooting Hickok!

I found a TNN 1878 model coach gun at a pawn shop for 500 bucks. My grandfathers dream gun is a coach gun. After 6 months of searching online and at gun stores I just happened to walk in with a buddy of mine and saw it on the rack. Now I cant wait till Christmas to give it to him.

Coach guns are great to hunt with in some parts of the south and you can get in the brush where a long barrel gun can get hung up on wing shots.
