Legendary singer Dame Vera Lynn has become the oldest living artist to enter the top 20 of the UK album chart, her record company said. Dame Vera, who kept up the spirits of millions of soldiers during World War II, has entered the album chart at number 20 - at the age of 92. She has achieved her success with her album, We'll Meet Again - The Very Best of Vera Lynn.
Dame Vera said: "I am extremely excited and delighted to be back in the charts after all these years." The album was released to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the declaration of war, which was on Thursday 3rd August 2009. A spokeswoman for her record company Decca said: "She has proven that music of this vintage and significance can still resonate with the British public."

I met Dame Vera Lynn in Vancouver, Canada, in 1991. Asked her if she would phone my aging dad, an ex-British soldier in Kamloops, B.C. She did the next day and spoke to him for a half hour. He adored her, & he never forgot that call, even in his 90's. I have corresponded with her for 5 years and she is so gracious. Deserving of all the accolades she receives. The world is richer because of her contributions to troops/veterans for many years. I love her for so many reasons.

she is amazing. I'm a 19 year old fan and I love her voice with all my heart. Her voice gives me so much joy. I hope she lives on forever and ever after she passes

A few years back I was finally able to scrounge around for her address and mailed her a letter. Much to my pleasure, the great Dame Vera Lynn answered me in kind, with a lovely hand - written letter. What a fine lady, and a great star, she is !

Very sad to hear Dame Vera passed away, but she had a good life and I have an Uncle in London who is 103 and is going strong He was a professional pianist and had a jazz band during the war. He often plays' Vera Lynn's songs and I have a DVD of her, she was an icon. GRHS. Sonia 20 20 an ex-Brit.

One of England's greatest singing performers and moral boosters in WWII for both civiilian and military personnel. Vera was popular with both Allied or Axis personnel. She was very popular in the U.S.A. during and after WWII and into the 50's. If you remember those days, you can't help to shed a tear as she sings those songs of love and longing.

I have just heard the sad news of Vera Lynn's passing. She was perhaps the last link we had of the spirit of Britain in those far off days, and which ,I am afraid, we will never experience again. Rest in Peace.

I am a fan since I was 7 years old (thanks to my father, he had a grammophone, tv was rare at the time. I am 63 years old now and thanks God I can hear her and other great artist on RU-vid. But she is still great , the greatest, singing for soldiers alone and far away from home and so human. No jealousy just Vera Lynn love you Vera

Though familiar with "We'll Meet Again", it wasn't until I first heard Pink Floyd's album "The Wall", that I ever even heard the name Vera Lynn. Years passed, before I saw one of her greatest hits albums offered up in a catalog of big band era music I'd recieved in the mail. As a Pink Floyd afficienado...I just HAD to have it. Wish i could find one of my favorites on RU-vid. Vera's version of "It's A Sin To Tell A Lie". She's HOT!!!!

But Decca said it had offered to make a payment to 92-year-old Dame Vera after she became the oldest ever recording artist to top the album charts. It is believed to be a five-figure sum.

Decca Records gave her $10,000,000 US Dollars. They were not required to. Total sales of her 1940 classic. 10 million or the "oldest chart-topper in history."

Under the law, performers receive royalties for up to 50 years after the song was first released and the performing rights on the songs on the album expired during the 1980s and 1990s. Instead, the royalties from Well Meet Again The Very Best of Vera Lynn will go to the singers record label, Decca, a subsidiary of Universal.

The Performing Rights Society, which collects royalties for artists, said Dame Vera could have earned up to £18 a minute every time one of the songs is played on the radio, although a cut of that would go to the songwriters. She is also missing out on royalties from downloads and album sales
