My manager was talking about how every time someone crashes one of the machines we drive at work, it's because they got too comfortable and made an obvious mistake. I, with my hundreds of hours in Darkest Dungeon, reminded him that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. He sort of kind of chuckled, and we moved on. At least I can cross "Shove a darkest dungeon quote into a conversation without looking like a total psychopath" off my bucket list.
I had one of those events where you can take level 5 heroes into level 1 missions and went through a long level 1 to fight the Shambler Beat the Shambler but lost my favorite Flagellant and Jester due to bad luck and not paying attention to status healing items.
This is a great game review and i love the character expansion part "she's broken and ik i can fix her" and then the occultist "he's broken and ik can fix him"
I tried but probably shouldn't have used the "How a life is taken" quote cuz now my coworkers are avoiding me. On the plus side I get a whole table to myself during lunch.
red blooded males are attracted to the gorh grils aesthetic because it represents a women is who in tune with her natural inner state. that is to say, *evil*
@@ponysrule101 Depravity and Lovecraft come hand in hand. That and 2d games with simple graphics tend to be easy to mod. Darkest dungeon and rimworld are the best examples for this.
An important thing for the Crimson Court is that everything it adds is modular. Meaning you can buy it and only turn on the Flagellant and the Building parts of the DLC and save the actual Crimson Court for after your first playthrough.
That's a good point worth noting. Don't think it was that way on release. I agree, I recommend new players stick to the flagellant and district part of the package for sure til they've played a while.
You can also add CC/CoM modules onto an ongoing playthrough, so you can have the classes and features from the start, but wait for a dozen or so weeks, before enabling the dungeons. Not necessary at all, but something that I even still do outside challenge runs (maddening whine is annoying as a town event and with it the optimal tactic of ignoring the CC dungeon is sadly also a boring tactic that temporarily disables all town events).
I can't tell you how many times I have started this game, stopped for a bit, and then decided it would be a good idea to start from the beginning again, cause I forgot how to play. I still haven't beaten this game.
I always forget that the actual darkest dungeon needs a stress healer and my entire party has heart attacks. I stop playing for 4 months, forget again and repeat. 10/10 game.
I used to be like you, but I got there one day 100 Hours of Determination and Grit, Learning from Mistakes and making the most of bad situations, It felt liberating to say the least. The old road will take you to hell, but in that gaping abyss we will find our redemption. I believe in you
My favourite thing about darkest dungeon is that time I was one room away from clearing the hardest mission I had ever done with two of my party members dead and ran into a funny blue skeleton in a bathrobe.
First time I ran into him was before I learned you could run from a fight and then leave the dungeon lmfao. It was the last room on a medium mission and I had run out of torches. And that’s how I lost Reynauld, Dismas, and the starting vestal + PD for the first time :)
This is one game I got early to fill out my Switch library when it was $10 and it never stopped impressing me. One of those games that make you scream in anger but you can’t say is unfair.
Does this mean we'll get a Monstergirl Quest review where you explain how it's one of your favorite games of all time, that I should play it, and a few assorted reasons why? Because I would like that 😳👉👈 Also, the Verac-splaining bit was amazing
Monster GIrl Quest is one of those games that makes you think "...This has no right at all to be this damn good. This is not what I expected at all, but I frigging love it."
I think I remember the story of Wayne June and how he came in contact with the devs. He talked about this way back in a video I think it was or a interview. Anyways, it was something along the lines of him talking to somebody way back, they got to know eachother through their interest in music, as many might not know, Wayne J. loves music and plays himself. And they traded contact information after he said he wanted Wayne in his game, the dev was still just a dev to another game at this point, Wayne didn't think much more about it, until years later he got a call that the dev guy was making a game and wanted him in, and I think it was through this that he got interested in H.P Lovecraft, I might be mistaken in that, he might have dabbled in reading audiobooks before/during this time. But I think it is kinda amazing you just give your contact info one day, years later get a role in something that will make your name recognizable internationally. If anybody remember more details/exact story, I would love to hear/read it, I dunno where the video/interview is where he talked abou it.
@@DinnerForkTongue Now that I searched it, it might be, I cannot go through the whole thing atm, but it looks famillar, and I have liked it before. So probably.
i remember hearing somewhere that the devs heard his audiobooks, and were trying to find a 'wayne june soundalike' before realizing they could just ask wayne june if he could voice the ancestor
I dunno how much of the process of making these videos from the scripting to the recording to the editing phases are actually fun, but it sounds like you're having a lot of fun recording your commentary, and it does wonders for making the video a pleasure to watch. Thank you Verac.
Varacsplaining segment made me smile so damn hard it hurts! I'm not sure if I want you to do it again because it was so good, or never do it again so the joke never gets old.
One of the red hook guys did actually listen to "Lovecraft Audiobook" on youtube and when they made the game he decided he wanted that type of narrator. After a bit of searching they decided "Might as well ask THIS SPECIFIC narrator!"
Surprised you didn't mention how mod friendly its become in recent years, but great review nonetheless! One of the best purchases I've ever made and can't wait until DD2 hits steam in February.
What i find really funny about the casting of Wayne June was that the guys who made it loved how Wayne June sounded from his eorks as a voice actor, so they originally tried to get voice actors to try sound like Wayne June, until they finally realized that he was a voice actor and they could just hire him instead
I don't know who the woman was in the video and why she have to sleep in the garage but I would love her to be part of another video it was definitely fun hearing her reaction to you explaining the characters🤣🤣😂😂🤩🤩 and I really love the way you covered darkest dungeon it almost makes me want a special edition of this video but with mods covering the "cultured" mods in darkest dungeon😉🤤😏🧐
Perfect timing: I was just having a killer run with tons of unopened curios to loot in the ruins after I beat the level 3 necromancer. I beat the necromancer. I accidentally pressed “return to hamlet” instead of “keep adventuring.” The HOWL of anguish I let out could have afflicted anyone in the room with me. Anyway, great video! Subscribed!
Found your channel today, and you got some really high quality content! I really love most of the jokes in your videos, your usage of gameplay is really on-point and highlights what you're talking about; and you seem earnestly PASSIONATE about the games you cover. And yes: the 10 words or less character description segment is the best part of the video. Had me howling with laughter on some of the characters like abomination and Man-At-Arms; and the ending joke about comments endorsing this means more days sleeping in the garage. Haven't finished all of your videos yet, but the ones I've seen: this applies there too. Hope you keep making content like this. Its always good seeing video game channels like this.
three things: 1: love this channel 2: It was an absolute public service announcement showing the audience that wane has H.P. Lovecraft readings on RU-vid. 3: You show the tutorial map when talking about how each DD1 dungeon is randomly generated. The tutorial mission, (the first time you delve into the ruins) is one of the few preset dungeons in the game. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or an inside joke, but it bothered me enough that I thought I'd point it out.
I dont have anything to say about the video I just wanted to say THANK YOU for having the sources in the description. That makes it so much easier for me.
Okay, between the MGQ mention, the Vestal, Occultist, Antiquarian, and Veracsplaining have earned a sub out of me. And, as a fellow man of culture, I also would like to see an MGQ review from you one day.
I'm ready for more veracxplaining in the future, and yeah man the pace of your video with the visuals being just right is great these days, nothing too aggressive on the eyes and I managed to catch most of the jokes (will rewatch to really get the others) Also, the jokes about the vestal and the antiquarian... yeah that sure made it clear you played this for a few hundred hours 😂
@Verac i wish to say that i'm very pleased to see that you are making your videos more distinguishable and in a more authentic way. I like that you carefully wrote jokes and let it flow on your own timing, you have a very enjoyable pace of both lore content and the little remarks that you have (I LOVED THE 3 AM PEOPLE YOU FIND ON THE GAS STATION) you may not remember but on your second video i said something about being very reminiscent of Sseth and MaxOr, and while that was fine because it is a very niche kind of review videos and people like me can't get enough, i do think that the way you are putting yourself right now has quite a bit of your own charm and personality. I will continue to accompany your videos and enjoy your work, thank you for putting one of the best games i've played here
Just to remind you guys that this game has a mod that is pretty much a spin off game set in completly diffrent and alien setting of Quatar/Arabia as an expedition on FLYING SHIP.You'll face many dangers, such as Ottoman Empire, Tribe of Big Breasted Woman and Man, Pot People, Antropod People and sneks. Mod is named Black Reliquary and it's just really fucking good, still in development but it's pretty consistant with updates
After a shit day of learning physics formulas for angular motion, derivation of velocity and time/displacement and solving for theta... I'm happy to know I got Verac over here to make the pain sorta go away :)
These videos are so good I'm inspired to actually finish it my 6th and final attempt! I didn't know the charecters were so hot so now ill fight for my life until this is done!
This, is perfection. Glorious recap on why do we love (hate, or both) this game so mich! Veraxplain gave me an affliction from laughter. Alllssooooo: My client (ancestor) did nothing wrong!
Build my team, succeed in a run, look after them in town, get attached to characters, have them all go insane then horribly murdered. Thanks Darkest Dungeon!
“No mom I’m not a schizophrenic aspergers violent extremist! I’m just a character in one of H.P Lovecrafts stories okay? You just don’t get my quest to save mankind from the eldritch abominations known as WOMEN THAT ARE MY AGE okay???” -me to my mother probably.
My favourite class is actually from a mod. She's called "Entrenched". Basically a WW1 soldier travelled back to middle ages with a shovel, mortar and flare gun, commences modern warfare (and shovel warfare) on eldritch horrors, plays fiddle during rests.
Oh yeah, Monster Girl Quest. That reminds me, I should play the sequel. Also... Berakk blease, you showd MGQ, yuo must rebiew Also also, Verac-splaining was good. Laughing in confusion as a response to insane ramblings is always funny.
Darkest dungeon is one of my all time favorite games. The way how the game teach you mechanics just by playing more as satisfying when you get it right
good segment, more verac-splaining EDIT: also, having played DD2, I'm very disappointed in it, maybe they'll eventually tweak it enough to make it enjoy it but for now I'll stick to DD1
What if Highwayman - was a Girl? What if Graverobber - was a Boy? they complement each other so well. (Rule 63 would literally just be them changing clothes.)
Flaggelant is Occultist level of good healer. Somewhat unreliable, but has a lot of additional utility and is good enough at healing with a parther that can consistently heal, even if it's not for a lot. Flag or Occ and PD are a power couple.
@@user-uf2ue7vz2b you can always die to that 13%. I prefer having him on healing received and some prot so tht he can survive to his turn and full heal
