Now that we've taken on the Karnak twins and The Traitor Curse seems to be wrapping up, I can't help but notice we still have a LOT of unanswered questions.
The addition of stimms into Darktide is a great gameplay mechanic, but as a central plot point, it hasn't been explained why our Rejects are able to take stimms without risk of being infected.
And in the Warrens 6-19 Carnival Part 2 mission, Morrow and Rannick let us know that the stimms themselves have been in production considerably longer than the siege of Tertium has been going on. So, what are the stimms, and who was responsible for making them?
Meanwhile, Zola's obsession with hunting Wolfer and the Karnack twins has been developing through voxes, journal entries, and the new Orthus Offensive mission. Darktide's main story seems to be centering around Zola, and has even thrown us a plot twist that Zola and Wolfer have some kind of previous connection.
So who was Zola before she became explicator? Is Zola being set up to become a traitor, or can we trust her? Was she involved with the production of stimms and at least partially responsible for the Nurgle invasion?

Wolfer is most definitely zolas brother. He's too active and mobile to be her father considering he's in the 6th (the guard doesn't have a great track record for long lives) the psyker talking about 2 zolas also reinforces this.

The Guard does have a record for long lives, just not many of them. Those that survive their first deployment have a slowly increasing rate of survival as those that don't die become veterans and harder to kill, and at a certain point are valuable enough to be worth augmetics and juvenat to prolong ability. Look at the Kriegers, who laugh at the shit that broke the Moebians. Every officer came from the ranks. Old Krieger officers exist. They're some of the toughest fuckers in the Guard.

Alternative theory; Zola and Wolfer grew up in the Torrent, in the same gang. They were good friends up until they were press ganged into the Mobian 6th. Something happened that caused Wolfer to lose faith in the Imperium and betray them, while Zola learned of this and thwarted his plans. Explains Zola’s knowledge of Wolfer, Tertium and the Torrent, the lack of knowledge on the Twins, and her obsession with stopping Wolfer.

Also after a while researching lore, it is hinted that Tetrium has a genestealer cult that attracting Tyranid hivefleet and the hive has sister hive which was redacted. So I guess that sister hive is the Fringe war, there are many hints about this: 1 - How the 6th send cultists back to start the uprising if the planet is on Inquisitor's watch and if they actually at the edge of Atoma? The answer is they are fighting at the sister hive so they can smuggled some to the community 2 - During the smelter mission every commander/techpriests said that the smelter shut down prevent them from produce enough Lemon Russ for the Fringe war. How is it possible if you look to the size of the smeltery, it can produced 1000 Lemon Russ tanks everyday and even Tau cannot destroyed as many like that, also Atoma steel is tougher than others. The only possible outcome is they are fighting against Tyranids force at the sister hive and those notoriously can chew through everything. 3 - When you look at the mission panel, all missions located on the ring outside of main spire. From Luetin's video I guess the spire was built from the last iron reserve on Tetrium before those ran out. Why Nuggle's cultists did not exploit those abanddoned tunnels, where according to Luetin (Part 4 of Worst job in Imperium) with aspirators normal humans cannot even survived long on those shafts. The simple answer is Genestealer cult and Tyranids are using those area, so the sister hive actually stayed under the main spire, on those ancient mining tunnels. In summary, the 6th has been sent into old, abanddoned mine tunnels where Genestealers cult already dug in. The fighting condition was horrible and soldiers not died by Tyranid will received their painful dead from the ancient mine shafts or air impurities. One day the 6th was tasked with place explosive charges to buried one entrace of Genestealer cult. However, during the process the commander decided to detonate all charges and thus buried entire 6th company on those shafts, also cut them off into small fragments. Zola pray Emperor to save her and by luck later she found one exit intact, killing a group of genestealers during the process. Wolfer's group got worse, their respirators damaged and one by one succumbed to air pollution. In despair Wolfee beg for anyone who can help his comrades and Nurgle responsed, removed all pains and suffering, allow them to escape. With both groups returned the 6th be hailed as hero and both Zola and Wolfer be offered a chance to become Inquisitor's accolyte. Zola accepted because with her time under those shafts is enough, meanwhile Wolfer denied and gain suspicious from Zola. But working with Inquisition distracted Zola from Wolfer, the spy sent to probe him did not work well.

I feel like new content is going to be related closely to the characters we have in the game. Zola gets the traitor curse due to her obvious past with wolfer and id assume once FS are done with her we’ll move over to a new character like morrow who’ll likely get a genestealer related update due to his past experiences with them.

Yeah, I think there's gonna be a couple main phases for story when it comes to Darktide. Part 1 is going to be focused on Wolfer and the immediate consequences of the fall of the Moebian 6th. Part 2 is going to be more about tracking down the source of the corruption and where Admonition came from.

Regarding the stimms, you may be right about it being a virulent center of an outbreak that turned the Moebian sixth ontop of the prelude Dan gave us on the combat of stress. The cult likely had something to do with its taint. Although I’m not quite convinced it’s a plot hole as to why we aren’t diseased. In past missions, our teams were deployed to collect samples and collate contagion data (the excise vault for example) on the blight. We never heard from Hadron or Morrow about the results afterwards. If I was to extrapolate that along with us collecting the stimms, maybe they discovered a pattern in the sequence and found a way to negate or isolate the harmful effects so the stimms could be reversed engineered for future use. As for Zola, I’m not in the camp that she’s a traitor. Her investment and familiarity in Captain Wolfer, at least to me, suggests that she encountered him before all of this. Perhaps they were old comrades. A lover even! Or maybe he took people she cared about in the past. What I find interesting is how Wolfer was captured. They were coming TO the hive not from it. This expansion was pretty great, two new maps and a challenging boss fight. It’s also worth noting Rinda Karnak’s hand twitched at the end cutscene. I think we’ll be seeing her again. Can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. Maybe we’ll find the Cult Leader soon.

During "collect blight samples" missions they mention "decontamination procedures". While it's easy to dismiss them as "shoot everyone who shows symptoms", it's possible that Inquisition actually found a way to protect their operatives from getting infected by a weaker strain of whatever disease the Cult is spreading. After all we might be just an expendable asset but we are still a valuable asset (especially after reaching rank 30). And Grendyl surely has experience with Nurgle's cultists

@hubanimations
@hubanimations 6 месяцев назад
The Moebian 6th were stated to have fallen to Nurgle when their regiment was deployed during the fringe war, a conflict in which the Moebian 6th fought against xenos and the forces of chaos. This conflict took place off of Atoma and the 6th were in direct contact with chaos forces (whether that be CSMs, Daemons, or other means) so I find it unlikely the stimms were responsible for corrupting the guardsmen. I'm more willing to beleive that the Moebians saw that loyalist forces had their own stimms and were trying to create corrupted version of them. We have also seemingly stopped the operation in it's tracks by capturing samples (removing them from circulation) and destroying the labs corrupting them. Also if stimms we pick up and use are blighted, what's to say that the cultists didn't also corrupt the medpacks and medicae stations players use throughout each level?

My current hypothesis is that both Wolfer and Zola were actually part of the Water Cartel and had some sort of comradrey during that time when they were both desperately trying to climb out of the Torrent. I recall during one of the assassination missions that she has likely been imprisioned in that very jail. I think that could possibly be when they got seperated and posssibly where she was found by Grendyl. I don't think she's a traitor, at least not yet. Rannick is right when he says obsession is a dangerous thing as I could see her going too far with this and ending up doing something pretty bad. As for Wolfer, at this point there's not much about him or who he is. Just that he's important to the war and somehow even more so to Zola. I wonder about that first cut scene where she insists on him needing to be interrogated by Grendyl; is this just another lie from Zola to get at Wolfer herself? I love how this has played out so far with him being such an enigma.

I can add a good OOC reason why he's likely not. He's possibly there as a character to show that yes, the Inquisition itself is a threat to the planet as they can, and Rannick will, straight up destroy the world. To Zola, he is a threat to her homeworld, so conflict arises. Abnett wrote for the story for this game. wolfer and zola's importance obviously stretches up farther than the torrent. gangs such as the water cartel often have nobles pulling their strings. military leadership positions (wolfer) or places in inquisitor retinues (zola) are often taken by noble offspring, or perhaps unwanted bastards which the nobles might prefer sent away. maybe im leaping too far, but someone up there is setting up these dominoes for wolfer to knock down.

Could be completely unrelated chatter, but there is some dialogue about the noble houses getting prickly with each other. Prickly nobles is *never* a simple matter of diplomacy. Maybe the way Hargrave is "handling" the threat, that has other nobles upset, is because of something similar to what you're speculating. Maybe Hargrave, Wolfer, and Zola have some connections. My only thought to that is, it seems like something Rannick would know and factor in. When Zola says she has to know something, it genuinely seems like Rannick doesn't quite know what she means. He's obviously cast his suspicions over her, but whatever it is still eludes him. What could it be, within the scope of the situation he responsible for, that Rannick, an Inquisitorial Interrogator, wouldn't know????

I've wondered that too since the secret skulls have come around. But I also am not sure because I kind of get the impression that "Zola" may be her surname. The naming conventions used in established 40k material kinda points me in that direction. Interrogator Rannick (Ivan Rannick), Morrow, Brahms, etc. Everyone goes by last name. And this is also followed in material like Eisenhorn as well... But I agree, it is a VERY interesting detail that a Captain that used to be close with Wolfer was also a woman. Though the other thing that points me away from this, now that I think about it, is that Rinda Karnak seems to know OF Zola but didn't actually know her, and heard things about her second hand from Wolfer. If Zola had been a Captain in the 6th and close with Wolfer, they probably would have actually known each other maybe?

What's worse is there's also no good information that links Zola, Tertium, the cartel, The 6th, and Wolfer together in any meaningful way. The cartel are dead, Zola never liked them, and Wolfer as commander of the 6th (likely groomed for the position for most of his life as officers tend to be in 40k,) probabely never spent any time in the underhive. Other soldiers in the 6th seem to have close ties to Tertium, since they know where the dens and bars and stim manufacories are, but it’s made painfully clear that Zola's obsession is with Wolfer in particular. Did she have a connection to him through a cartel connection to the 6th? Is it possible she was reccomended to Grendyl through Wolfer before his corruption? As far as the stimms, I think it's supposed to be a retcon and they're supposed to have always been here. It's abundantly clear that the tainted stimms are green and glowing, and none of the ones we use even have a splash of glowy nurgle goodness.

There is a people in cage on last map Warren 6-19, when you destory th stimms production. If you want to learn more about who was there before the moebain 6th, run the mission with Zola as mission head and she will bring along Oska Krall who knows Habzone HL -70 -04 way more then she does. They mention that smuggler were all killed by the moebains and they take over stimm production. Also some made a list of hive gangs of Tertium mention in voicelines on the forum that youtube doesn't like you to say: Drownyard Clan, Chasm Railers, Sky Reavers and the Water Cartel.

Nurgle offers stability in the stagnation of what the universe offers most: pain. You become part of the cycle of life death and rebirth. But you never die. And you never feel pain. And can live through it all. The part Nurgle offers is that what you desire is peace. And he can make you feel that at the price of your soul.
@vodac1206
@vodac1206 6 месяцев назад
Follow up: Nurgle is also a god of anyone wanting to beat death. Festus the Leechlord wanted to conquer death after being obsessed by the fact that he could not heal all illnesses. Fetus gave himself up to nurgle as a way to gain that knowledge, ironically becoming a source of death in the process. Stims could have been just an attempt to make yourself stronger than death. Give them the edge. This same obsession is also tacking with Zola.

Eh. Nurgle is a fine option for soldiers because "despair," but Khorne and honestly even Slaanesh are just as strong contenders. Wanting to survive brutality by means of strength, or escape the horrors of war through distraction and fantasy are very alluring and human.

Back in my day, we had to find drugs in the street. 😂 To awnser your question as to WHY we need a mission to explain a new world item. Everythings is hand picked from GW. Everything to the frames, to the words that describe the items. ALL need GWs approval. They probably needed a valid reason to put combat stims into the game from a lore accurate postion. Gw dosent want another Ubers 5 getting books.

Stims? Listen, I've been sus on the MED KITS since the game came out. You think I'm not gunna sus on a glowing green mist that has an effect on my health in a game full of glowing green mists that have varying effects on health (lore, not gameplay). For all I know it's the same stuff being pumped into Dreg Ragers, which I guess is why they can take so much damage? Idk, omega sussy tbh.

Because the stims that are shown to be in the tainted cases are shown to be different from the ones that are used as boosters by players, and also remembering that some things can be completely dismissed as for gameplay, such as the ammo tins having exactly the same amounts of ammo of all types all the time.

zola is clearly not guilty. she sneaks a strike team in to kill the karnak twins, and rennick is the one that tries to pull us out. the mission ends (if You live!) with their death, so zola seems pretty legit unless she's making a secret power play to replace the wolfer as head cultist or something. rennick is way more suspicious to me and way better placed to actually cause harm to tertium.

Nurglite fear of death doesn't necessarily fear of sickness death. It's fear of death, period. Cowardly soldiers forced into fighting the wars of an uncaring and uncompassionate empire? Might put the fear of death in you every day. Maybe the Moebians just had terrible commissars?

I don’t like the stimms theory. The stimms you find in game are in military chests seen from them also having ammo and grenades. The Moebians easily could have turned to Nurgle from reasons other than for example Nurgle’s followers tend to be happy laughing at everything with a morbid humor even in combat scenarios disease plus with that even if they serve Nurgle they have their own personality look at mortarian they wouldn’t be so devout to Nurgle in that case.
@Lamrett
@Lamrett 6 месяцев назад
The stims in the tainted crates aren't the same as the ones players take, and also tying plot to things that are primarily gameplay allowances is never smart. The ammo tins are a good example. They're there for gameplay, not to imply the Imperium places tiny tins of a tiny amount of all common ammo types randomly literally everywhere. Despite being clearly too small to contain the magazines of most weapons.
@shadysack9884
@shadysack9884 6 месяцев назад
@@Lamrett That is a pretty fair point I am just saying I feel very strongly thay the inquisition wouldn’t be letting its troops take stimms they know might be tainted.
@Lamrett
@Lamrett 6 месяцев назад
@@shadysack9884 This warband definitely wouldn't. Openly and owning it radicals might. Combat stims 100%, but you can completely assume the ones you pick up to be for gameplay reasons fine. Likewise with the ammo, the Mechanicus would view putting tainted ammo into the gun in a similar light. But the ammo on the ground is a gameplay thing.

The obvious reason why the Moebians turned to Nurgle: Immortality and a caring god. Nurgle is the most generous of the Chaos gods, always passing his gifts to his favorite followers. Not to mention that under Nurgles domain, despite being completely riddled with pestilence, those under nurgle turn from pain to pleasure. Not to mention that Nurgle doesn't want his followers to die to his own diseases, so he uses chaos magic to keep them alive and well, in spite of infection.
