There’s always the initial “why did you let me sleep so long?!” But...I always appreciate when my husband lets me sleep in for 5 hours longer than when I tell him to wake me on my days off ♥️

You kinda remind me of dr Bailey from grey's anatomy and her 5 rules lol I have five rules. Memorize them. Rule number one: Don't bother sucking up. I already hate you. That's not gonna change. Trauma protocol, phone list, pagers. Nurses will page you, you answer every page at a run. A run! That's rule number two! Your first shift starts now and lasts 48 hours. You're interns, grunts, nobodies, bottom of the surgical food chain. You run labs, write orders, work every second night until you drop, and don't complain! On-call rooms. Attendings hog them. Sleep when you can where you can, which brings me to rule number three. If I'm sleeping, don't wake me unless your patient is actually dying. Rule number four: The dying patient better not be dead when I get there. Not only will you have killed someone, you would have woke me for no good reason. We clear?Rule number five: when I move, you move.

Omfg!!! I'm not a nurse but I worked at Denny's for 10 years 3rd shift! Everything is the same! I've waited on so many nurses, doctors, police and truck drivers! The money was amazing. I'm still serving but at a different restaurant and I'm a second shifter now.

Very true. I have been a night shift nurse for almost ten years. One thing I did learn to do was to sleep in the "light". No black out curtains. Lawnmower noise became white noise. One bad incident was falling asleep at the beach, I woke up as a lobster.; but a positive side of this, I had two extra sick days off.

I used to be a 3rd shift CNA and I loved it. I'm in nursing school now and if I could convince my instructors to get us an over night clinical I'd be in heaven!

Being asked what day of the week it is throws me off for a moment....because I really have to think about it. As a night shift MLS, I work closely with all the nurses at my facility, and holy cow....we have fun and get all the crazy. But omg I laughed so hard at the accuracy of this....I am fortunate that I can keep my sleep schedule on my days off, though. That is the thing that makes you more tired and I never know how some of my coworkers do it lol.

I work 7 12hr night shifts with 7 days off and love it. My husband and sons are so familiar with this. My youngest son laughs at me for having wine in the morning when I get off. My oldest son works nights at a factory and can relate to this as well.

As a nurse about to start 3 nights over a weekend here in Australia, all of these tips rung true - except the happy hour drinks. I’m never happy when I work nights haha!
