Hey Dave--think you had it bad? I had Tourette's, Asperger's, narcolepsy, and rotten teeth. In second grade a mob of kids (literally) would chase me home from school yelling "hey rotten teeth!" while throwing rocks at me, punching me, and knocking my schoolbooks on the ground. Imagine that life.

He was kicked out of Metallica because he basically did not know how to socialize as a young adult. He though being an asshole was showing friendship....it must have taken him a long time to learn how to get along with others. I have a lot in common with Dave in growing up alienated; it took me a long time to learn to be social and I did a lot of awkward things I thought might be cool or funny and regretted later. I now live by the mantra "if you think it might be stupid or offensive...don't do it or say it!". Worked well for me since

I think Jeff Hanneman said it best when he said about people not understanding the music of Slayer. That you have to have problems to understand the music. That's how I felt growing up listening to 80s Thrash Metal such as Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth. The music speaks to me, it understands me and comforts me when everyone else couldn't do the same thing at that time.

I was raised as a jahovahs witness and can attest to everything he said. I was lucky that my dad was Catholic and put his foot down over Christmas, which my brother and I always got to celebrate with the rest of the family who weren't religious at all really. Meeting twice a week for 3 hours a time, Saturday morning bible study with one of the elders, Sunday morning meeting at the Kingdom Hall followed by another Bible study all afternoon with one of the older kids. Wasn't allowed to watch anything remotely sexual, with bad language, or even mild violence until I was around 16 and basically couldn't be stopped anymore by law. I wasn't allowed around girls, full stop. I remember my mum going mad because she found out I had a girlfriend when I was 16 going on 17. As a kid I was constantly scared of god and satan finding out I I did or thought something "bad", like lying to my mum about brushing my teeth or if I'd go to bed without saying my prayers. I was terrified Satan was going to come in my room at night, posses me, and make me do bad things. I was pushed into believing that allowing worldly ideas into my head was allowing Satan into my head. And that Satan wants me to do bad things against gods will so he can get closer to me and make me do more bad stuff. I literally went to bed scared his evil demon spirit was going to sneak through my window and possess me like a puppet and make me do all the evil stuff he supposedly loves people doing. I was 5 years old... who the fuck teaches that to a child? Then when I left at 16 and my mum couldn't legal make me doing anything the other member tried to encourage her to distance herself from me. Madness. She also left shortly after the told her to disown her own son at 16.

Having the Holy Spirit onboard was an unexpected, staggering and beautiful honor! I never did care much for Metallica but I am a life long Budgie fan. Burke Shelly was sort of a pastor to me in high school. Although I didn't know the Gospel I did have a fascination with the Bible and somehow I formed an attachment toBurke's lyrics as they were so mysterious, beautiful and somewhat biblical. I know James Hetfield was raised in the same CS cult that I was and he was the only other person I had heard of that was into Budgie besides me. Now I am 59 and I still listen to Budgie a lot and Megadeth a little more.

You are a good guy Dave and a decent person. I grew up on the lower end of the socio-economic ladder with my parents both working 2 jobs and living in tenement apartments. My family eventually climbed up out of that situation but the thoughts and memories have never left me. Thanks for telling your story...it was very inspiring to me to hear even that little bit. Take care, okay.

Stuff like this makes me so grateful for my upbringing We weren't well off in the slightest, nobody in my village was but my childhood was amazing, my parents were together right up until my old man passed away, we had proper home cooked meals every night, proper big roast dinner on Sunday's, amazing happy Christmases, I can truly say hand on heart I have zero complaints about my childhood/upbringing

Oh boy. The irony of the last statement.... Makes you think what's worse, though; someone who believes in literal hell and earnestly wants to 'save' people through proselytisation, or someone who _still_ 'believes' in literal hell and doesn't.

Lot of respect for Dave. He is not exactly wrong about JWs being false Christians. I am Orthodox myself, not Protestant like Dave. But Jehovah’s Witnesses outright deny the Trinity. That alone is a deal breaker. You can’t deny the Holy Trinity and call yourself a Christian, that’s just bare basics. It is probably one of the only theological truths upon which Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant evangelicals can all agree; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I’m sure some atheist will post something snarky in response to that, but whatever.

His childhood here in Brazil is such a dream. Here we see our neighbors starving to death, who survives til 12' age goes to criminal life and dye young too, people die of a lot of desease. 50 milions extremely poor. No house, no health water.

My parents got divorced before I started kindergarten as well. We also were on food stamps, lunch tickets for lunch, could not afford Nikes Converse at the time. We got our shoes from a supermarket. Life wasn’t easy on my end either. I know how you feel Dave.

Wow, this is great insight to dave. No wonder why he held the pain of being booted from metallica for so many years. Too many years indeed, no one deserves to live through that pain. He finally felt accepted, he had brothers by his side. He was going to do great things with them, and from his perspective, without warning bam...booted. Now to you Dave fans or Metallica fans dont you even dare think about trying to argue under my comment. Im just really thinking about that right now, and its really no wonder how that damaged him so much. Poor guy
@El_Krani
@El_Krani 2 года назад
Yea he’s talked about that many times, he found a true family in the metal scene especially with Metallica, so when they told him to leave he felt betrayed and really hurt by what he thought were his brothers. So he came back with Megadeth
@dropkickmurphy4114
@dropkickmurphy4114 2 года назад
Ironic, then, that Cliff, whom James essentially saw as a close brother, was "booted" from the band, the brotherhood. Both Dave and James lost their "families."

🤔More and more recently i find myself distancing from metallica because of james and larz choices. And getting closer to megadeath because of who dave really is. And the truck ton of shit he had to scrape through to get to where he is. It's very very inspiring.
