Great technique getting her out of her head Dave. I know how hard it can be get out of your comfort zone with a lift. When you make changes your numbers often go down in the short term, but as Ed said, what you have been doing got you to this level, it will not take you to the next level. Dave taking a minute to allow her to calm down and recenter was just as brilliant as the coaching Ed was giving her. This was a picture perfect how to coach video. She did a great job in the end making the changes that were suggested to her! Great video guys.
She's prob reluctant to take the weight off the bar, thinking of all the hard work it took to get her lift to where it was. Sometimes you can get far with bad technique, but like Ed says, "your technique so far got you to this spot but eventually it will prevent you from getting further". That's the real truth right there. Sure, with good genetics and natural ability you can get to a decent level even with poor technique, but eventually, it will fail you when you really need it. Correct the technique, even if it means you have to take a few steps backward temporarily. Then you have all the tools in place to truly reach your ultimate potential.
This goes for every newbie millennial. If there is an experienced lifter in the gym willing to help you STFU like everyone who came before you and listen, you can't learn how to lift by watching videos,.
Oh man this is so useful! Seeing others mistakes being corrected is so helpful!!!! Instead of shit loads of blah blah that is not understandable ... it’s so much easier to identify yourself with one of those people.
@@weshallneversurrender most definately, I've only just realised how much I don't know about training. Never even done a proper peak/taper. Just found eds program so going to give that a bash. All the best with your strength journey
And I wonder how much that chick can pull now and if she changed her technique or stuck with her own mechanically disadvantaged but seemingly "better" in her mind technique.
I literally have the same problem as the lady with the orange shirt with my sumo deadlift. Its still a hinge movement, and when I try to open it up more I feel like I would never have the power to break it from the floor.
Relax guys. She doesn't think she knows more. She wasn't arguing. She was frustrated and trying to understand. "I feel like I'll fall forward.", isn't arguing, as an example, it is expressing a fear/lack of understanding. As soon as they said you won't, she did it Ed's way.
Yea you have to understand this was real time. If you have deadlifted much you know a slight changed feels horrible at first. Now imagine ed and Dave plus another 20 people with cameras are watching you as two of the best to ever do it critique you. She eneded up making the change and did good.
@@hogleg8103 I was given pointers by Rudy Kadlab (arguably one of the strongest senior citizens in the world with a 500+ deadlift in his 70s) to fix my deadlift at an open house event at Kabuki Strength. Although I felt awkward and weaker at first and mentioned that to him, I didn't argue with him and continually pulled using his recommended technique. That chick was hella stubborn and probably plateaued sooner than should would have had she not been so hard-headed while insisting her way was better.
Dude... so happy I’m not the only one that thought that. I mean everyone has their little ritual of setting up but that was so excessive. Just setup and pull. Stop flailing your arms around. You’re doing a deadlift, not some special move from mortal combat that gives you an advantage.
I couldnt deal with these 2 guys at the same time, could you imagine if louie Simmons was there also? This would be an unbearable training session. You would go home and cry all night.
If Ed tells to KO your granny in order to increase your deadlift, you fucking do it. No questions lol these lifters taking for granted the advice these 2 legends dropping on them.
He is wanting her to pin her shoulders back, but her back isn't strong enough in that position to do it. She still didn't do it in the end, they just gave up on her. Ed Coan seems to struggle to convey what is in his head. He is right though. Her upper back is weak. that is why at the beginning when she actually got in the right position she couldn't pull it.
Right? The dude's is widely regarded as the greatest powerlifter of all time, and some random thot is just gonna talk back to him instead of taking his advice to heart.
I thought she did great! Taking feedback and fixing form is tough as fuck in and of itself. Add to that, having to do it in front of 10 other people. In those cases it's a struggle to leave your ego at the door.
