bonus: pressing 2 on your keyboard skips to exactly 1:57 EDIT: this actually works with 1 and 3 for the other two timestamps. wonder if its intentional
Getting chased during night fall is absolutely terrifying. A lot of dredge players are also running blindness perks so it just adds on to the terror. Definitely a good addition to the game
dont know if you'd consider this evil but i use perks to track the location of the survivors so i can pop out of a locker infront of them with or without nightfall, i also main dredge
@@FrozenFish-fn5qd that’s a good strat, I usually use one aura revealing perk like tinkerer or bbq and then run only chase perks along with it so I can be as oppressive and scary as I possibly can, I also main dredge
@@MrRAGE22 yep, yesterday i was healing a Dwight infront a locker which i didnt realise, he bursted out and i literally screamed and he downed Dwight and dwight dced
i love the chase music but in game it sounds even better. This Killer is pretty atmospheric with his movement noises of what sounds like bones, when he swings you hear like a ritualistic chant and then when Nightfall begins a choir of what would be associated with a cult performing a ritual. All this elevates the music. This chapter is really something quite special
that is not a sound of a ritual, that is the sound of the people who wanted a perfect peaceful place that has no dark thoughts only to kill each other. The Dredge is the aftermath of that so you're hearing The Dredge, and yes i read it's back story and apparently it's an Elder God, i'm not lying read it for your self.
@@dhisufiroa1957 Yeah, the Dredge’s real eldritch god name is the Druanee. Honestly one of my favorite killer backstories just because of the Druanee’s powerful presence that really makes the Dredge mysterious and haunting.
I hope they continue this theme for DBD, having more scary killers, rather than, say, a K-pop star. Whilst the Trickster is still, in a way, cool, I really do hope BHVR keeps focusing on the HORROR part of the game, rather than the Rule34 artists, but, that's my theory. I 100% agree with what you say.
@@maxenny agreed tho trickster is still horror vibes, he may not look it with his pop of color but dudes a psycho who laughs at you in trials and gets pleasure out of killing like most of the killers in the DBD roster
If you've read the lore then I think this theme goes perfectly with this killer, it's basically the culmination of every awful thing that happened during the cult massacre, right down to the random bits of screaming.
The vibes that each layer gives off are amazing. 32m: The trial is continuing as usual, there is a slight hint of something in the distance, but nothing worse than usual. 16m: Something is wrong. There's a new beast in the fog, comprised of flesh and torn limbs, it staggers from lockers, hunting anything it sees. 8m: It draws near, a malformed and hulking monstrosity drags itself closer, looking for it's next victim. Chase: It has found it's quarry, a rapid sense of dread covers the trial. The beast savagely tears through wood and wall alike in a desperate, thrashing attempt to catch it's prey.
For any Dredge mains, please do Midwich Elementary as your main map. The map itself is probably the darkest (at least in my opinion) and it feels so claustrophobic. It just seems to fitting to dealing with this kind of killer in this map.
this is weirdly specific, but the 32-16m has the vibes of an elderly person's house. the floral furniture patterns, the smell of dust and mold, knitted table cloth, old wooden cabinets, and a standing lamp next to the living room's rocking chair.
The best part imo is the relentless ritualistic percussion. It makes you feel insecure and hunted at the same time, like you're not being chased by a singular entity, but a mob of them.
As someone with frequent heart palpitations, I've always heard those drums during chase as extremely rapid palpitations or ectopic beats of the heart. Adds to the horror and I identify greatly with it. Partially why Dredge is my favourite killer.
Which reminds me why do we not have a non-licensed version of Demogorgon yet? A Lovecraft Shambler would be a great replacement since they lunge and make portals just like Demogorgon does
@@lexaiuskenjiro5867 Depends whether or not the dredge is immortal/has the same or more defense as demo. I think dredge has more Iq, so if he is stronger he could probably find a way to kill demo right.
A terrible creature beyond the light, a shambling horror that lurks, intrenched in the mind." "He who makes the fearless quiver, and the fearful dissolved of hope" "A dredge on the world"
What I love about this killer is that it brings the horror feeling back to the game, since this game just doesn’t feel like a horror game most the time and it also has one of the best cosmetics in the game and there all very unique, by far one of my favorite killers in general!
Still think that this thing is one of the best killers to this date. The design of this thing is so unsettling, but the noises somehow make it worse. The fleshy sounds and the bone cracking sounds when it moves, the chanting when it swings and is in nightfall. And god this music makes all of this so much scarier. I remember playing against a Dredge for the first time, and I hid somewhere next to a gen, kind of behind something, waiting for him to come up and kick it, when all of a sudden the locker next to me busted open and that thing came out and scared my soul out of me. This is such an S tier killer for all the detail and love put into it. It's even one of the 2 killers that has a unique chase animation. One of the best killers bhvr has ever made.
this sounds oddly specific, but I’ve been wanting a killer who casts the realm into darkness, accompanied by the cries of its victims for a while, I thought that was something that would make a killer honestly frightening I was right
I am dead serious when I say this; I thought of a killer that I called the crypt keeper about 3 years ago that could go into morgues and appear out of others and could send fireflies to survivors. When a survivor got enough fireflies, they went into darkness and had to be lead around by other survivors. I wanted this killer power, and I feel that I somehow willed it in a way.
The chase part is my favorite, the rhythm of the drum and the vocals just add to the chase, it's why sometimes I wish I can get a Dredge in game often just to hear it while I'm being chased.
Best original chapter they’ve ever developed, I can tell they put a lot of work into the charecters and the lore. Can’t wait to actually play this on the PlayStation.
The way the xylophone can still be heard in layer 4 just alot quieter. My poetic interpretation is the entire chase music is a cult. Layer 1 you are observing the disturbing practices and procedures of the cult, they haven't noticed you yet. Layer 2, you underestimated their intelligence and they have begun to notice things such as misplaced objects and odd footprints, they're investigating and you are still sneaking about. Layer 3, they have found you, they go quickly to alert the higher ups of you and you aren't sure what to do panicking you don't know whether to run or risk discovering what will happen with sweat dripping down your forehead as crowds murmur about and stare at you. Layer 4. A loud howl emits from afar as a terrifying creature quickly sprints towards your direction. The one the cult serves. You immediately start running as the cult not interfering but chanting and howling in prayer of your imenent demise by their master, the drums of the song mimicking galloping as both you and the horrifying beast run for, your life.
I feel like I could write a 10 page essay on why Dredge is the *best* Killer in the game. Not just gameplay wise but its lore, visual design, audio design, and animation design all play a huge role into what makes it so imposing!
@@Yonel6969 absolutely, the power as well is frightening and this music. is suspenseful and anxiety inducing, I at least think Sadako is a close second to this killer in terms of the fear factor but people don't take her seriosly with all the memes and stuff,.
Bro my whole BODY bobs. The reason why it's so good is that you can literally feel it in two ways, as the drums are played in both duple meter and triple meter.
The 16m music is just so good. The sound design of the killer is amazing too; the creepy chants that play every time the Dredge does anything just fit so well!!
This definitely sounds like a combination of different horror movie themes, that 3rd radius sounds like the intro part of Child's Play 3, then Chase sounds like a jumbie type of theme,
The music perfectly fits the lore for the dredge, especially at the 16 meter interval. As the music progresses you feel a elevating dread as i gets closer, just like hos the Fold eventually gave way and destroyed themselves. At 32 meters is a slow pace like how the first people go missing and Otto starts his reign. At 24 meters you feel the presence of fear and tension like the sleepless nights the fold delt with. At 16 meters it is a cluttered mumble and you can't understand it like the fold eventually beginning to go insane after the death of the reporter. And finally the chase symbolizes the madness that Otto created with the people of The Fold ripping themselves apart out of fear and insomnia. This mofo is awesome
@@ookam9685 yeah you can find basically all the tomes on youtube if you dont have the videos unlocked. Though some of them are just videos of what the characters lore is and you can opt to just read the lore
By FAR the coolest original killer we have ever received. The mysterious fog around it and the things that it keeps contained within are so intriguing and interesting. Not to mention it's appearance alone is disturbing. It feels almost poetic, since The Dredge is mainly comprised of malformed and mushed human body parts. Making that single, endlessly gazing eye all the more disturbing.
Even the stealthy killers doesnt scare you like this abomination, it being a creature of pure terror just makes it so uncanny. Especially the moment when u do gen in pure silence and the fucking locker starts to either rumble or bang-open xd gosh always scares me to the core. Also the chase music kinda reminds me of rattling bones which fits this beast as hes made of multiple bones, flesh and other disturbing things
By its lore, chase music, and game mechanics, easily the scariest killer in the game Both his passive and special abilities are scary Jumps out of lockers and also you can't see anything in his nightfall and you hear dead people shouting at you from the void
Dredge DEFINTELY brings back the horror/suspense that's been missing from DBD for a while now (imo). While I'm not a Dredge player/main myself, I think he's pretty fun to face as you don't always know what to expect with him.
I personally would’ve loved a dissonant group of voices coming and going to add another layer to the chase music, would’ve been fitting with the killer and much more terrifying
what ive noticed is that they actually do that when in nightfall! it actually syncs up with the music a bit, and when it gets towards the end and all of those voices are screaming and crying its genuinely one of the modt unnerving chase themes in the game
@@beta_tested ok I’ve searched for a couple videos, I must say that for the most part is kinda what I had I mind, but if they were at least following some kind of armony altogether it would’ve been perfect
Dredge main here, I’m not gonna lie but his backstory is extremely similar to a real life cult massacre, the Jonestown massacre Jim jones being Otto and the cult itself being the people of Jonestown. This is some terrifying stuff right here
So apparently, the Dredge's lore involves a community in 1960s America named The Fold, or the Garden of Joy. The founder, according to the lore, was Otto Stamper and he led hundreds of dissatisfied people into believing his idea of "happy-thoughts" teaching. It was envisioned as a self-sustaining society. No malspeak, no malthought, no malcontents. Nobody in The Fold was allowed to think bad thoughts or speak ill of anything or anybody. Anyone who did will be... disappeared. But it was all a lie. Otto Stamper actually created a cult, and used it as an "experiment". What if you force a community to repress their negative thoughts, only for it to burst out during a moment of hysteria? The answer is the Dredge. The lore mentioned an intrepid journalist who infiltrated the community, only to be arrested. The lady journalist immediately tried to warn The Fold's inhabitants of Stamper's true motive, but the man murdered her right in front of his flock. That's when the community began questioning everything. Was The Fold really a cult society? Did their leader lie to them about the whole "happy-thoughts" teaching? Whispers turned into quiet mantras, and then into loud prayers, and then into accusations and slaughter...
*"The dredge has many names. the simulacrum of the abnegation of man for man, the avatar of blackened hearts, the bogeyman, but IT real name is the Druanee. From the depths of the abyss, IT appeared, born of the will of the entity, created and fantasized by the Ottomans when dark thoughts gradually resurfaced. Its ethereal form, hidden under a grotesque mass of rotting flesh, devours the light itself, drowning the sky and the air with the moans of a thousand victims, murderers, criminals and children. No one escapes IT. Nothing can. IT belongs to the Fog, and everyone who dives below its surface encounters IT sooner or later. Now, manifested, IT crawls, vanishes, and appears like a shadow, to satisfy its hunger and that of its creator."*
@@jaydonarchuleta5691 kinda, basically the dude who taught the doctor created a cult/community that refused to think negative thoughts and it got to the point where if anyone thought anything negative the dude would torture and sacrifice you to the entity. Enough repressed negativity and sacrifices and the dredge is made, all entity fueled
@@jaydonarchuleta5691 lol his lore is already on PTB its pretty lengthy. It was basically that if you had negative thoughts the dredge went for you. You was its favorite prey. But if you are also evil to begin with then it leaves you alone. It's how the man went on to go teach hermen Carter, the doctor.
BHVR: I need a new chase song but I didn't do my homework can I copy yours? Meshuggah: Sure just don't make it obvious. BHVR: **bleed rhythm pattern intensify**
I had told myself if the anniversary chapter wasn’t Springtrap I was quitting. They did so well on Dredge I’m playing more than ever and have a new main.
