Dead Space: Extraction is way better than I thought it would be.
Released in September 2009 for the Wii, Dead Space: Extraction really took me by surprise. Spinoffs can be hit or miss, but plenty of love and care was put into extraction.
It's got excellent pacing, the gameplay transfers wonderfully to a rails shooter, the horror is maintained, and its narrative is well thought-out.

If you wanted to get a better idea of what happened planetside on AEGIS VII when the marker was discovered, and what happened on the USG Ishimura prior to Dead Space 1, you'll get that in Dead Space Extraction.
In my Dead Space videos, I did receive many comments suggesting looking at Dead Space Extraction. As I recently covered the rail shooter Resident Evil titles on the Wii, I was in the mood for more. I'm glad to have checked this one out.
Dead Space Extraction has more focus on the narrative and less shooting compared to other rails shooters, but it does a great job of balancing the two. I never felt like the game dragged or wonder when I would get back to shooting.
If you're a fan of Dead Space, you owe it to yourself to check out Extraction if you haven't.

I just bought a Wii, this game is on my list. Currently playing Umbrella chronicles and Zelda Twilight Princess. I have not played a Wii in over a decade, what a great console.

It was an okay console and more of a novelty toy for non-gamers. Hence why it is the highest/best selling console of all time. It succeeded at what the 3DO and CDI tried to do, and that is market itself as a part of one's home entertainment system.

I did a playthrough of this game on my Wii after buying a copy, and it was with a buddy who is a big Dead Space fan and we loved it. It was a blind playthrough for both of us and we just soaked it in truly a unique but still Dead Space experience

I have very vivid memories of wanting to buy this day 1...before EA announced it would be yet another rail shooter. This was at a time when there were a glut of rail shooters on the Wii and a serious shortage of more open TPS's and FPS's, and the blowback they got at the time wasn't insubstantial. It just wasn't what the Wii needed at the time; their were ultimately too many rail shooters out then and people were sick of 'em.

I bought this day one. I was so sad when they didn't continue Lexi's story in Dead Space 3, because that was kind if a ensemble.

Always wanted to play this game but never had the platforms it was on. I understand why an on-rails shooter never came to Xbox 360, but a Dead Space 1 dlc could've been made using this story (given they continued this story in Dead Space 2 as a dlc) or just make a PC remaster.

Throwing Lexine into the mix as possibly somehow being immune to The Marker's influence is such an interesting story element. If only EA didn't go and screw up the 3rd game, we could've gotten a 4th (possible finale) installment.

Dead space extraction felt like a good prequel story that should of been dlc for the 1 or 2 game. And honestly when i played the severed dlc i was kind of surprised these two characters had a game before. It's rare any game studio keeps tab on there lore because it's already hard to keep a consistent lore in general. I generally liked the whole game itself thoughi wish it was expanded more in the later games. Sad how this story was never real finished imagine a character who is completely immune to the markers. That would of been an interesting story. But a last we had ea sort of messed up on that with 3 so we will never truly see what happens to lexien after the severed dlc. And i have to give it veseral for making a good game regardless of the genre that takes a talented studio to make good games regardless what it is.

I didn't play the Dead Space games until a few years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised by Dead Space Extraction. The Wii played host to a mini Renaissance of rail shooters, with games like this and the RE titles pushing the genre in interesting directions. I'd love to see you review House of the Dead: Overkill somewhere down the line.

I bought the Limited Edition of Dead Space 2 and had this game as a free download. It was a fun short game that I finished right before I started up DS2 just to get some more lore insight. If anyone here could answer this for me I'd appreciate it, was the download I got for Extraction just a one time thing or will I be able to download it again if I use the DS2 disc in a new PS3? My last PS3 died a long time ago and I've lost all my details for the PSN ID I had with it too.

The PS3 version is noticeably superior and the Dual Shock 3 controller worked like a charm. I'm glad that it was included in Dead Space 2: Limited Edition alloqing me to experience it before starting Dead Space 2 and then playing through Severed.

Honestly, is pretty impressive they made this in 14 months, specifically on the wii. I think this game is more for the hardcore fans, or people who wants to play the game from the very, *very*, start of DS story. I'm still sad EA owns the IP, because, well, it's EA lol. I am also curious of what happened to Lexine post Severed, since she isn't even mentioned in DS 3

It could be a reach, but I think one game that comes close to the dismemberment combat system could be Horizon Zero Dawn. It encourages the player to scan the machine's components and slowly use them to Aloy's advantage by removing armour plating, weaponry and to expose machine weak points. Perhaps? I don't know. Could be that I'm biased. Love HZD and can't wait to play the sequel.

Wasn't into this when it launched. I really liked the resident evil rail shooters but this one just didn't do it for me. May have to revisit on PS3. Time changes opinions!
