I lived in nyc during the 80s and 90s and I can't tell you how many bw I knew with a Hispanic baby daddy. They were all trying to have a baby with "good hair."
My girl is Salvadoran, and she treats me like a king. The black women I’ve dealt with play games, and often don’t treat black men well. They like to be confrontational. Trust me, I tried, but other races treat black men better overall.
Yeah i lived in the dmv for 5 years....he is in MD. Majority of the latinas in the DMV are in Northern VA, and it's actually common to see bm with latinas and ww in alexandria, manassas, faifax and Woodbridge. Idk what that person is talking about. Especially with guys my age (35) and younger. They dont be ugly women either. In 2024 idk why people are still pushing the "bm get leftovers" narrative from when that has been changing for years now
I am from NoVa, grew up in Alexandria and Woodbridge and Hispanic women definitely check for black dudes. lol They want dudes with good jobs and who are decent looking; that’s it.
I'm an older millineal, and it was the start of the mixing point for us. When most of us got to college, that's where i saw more of us, brothas, mixing with Latinas. Living in north Florida, it was mainly mexicans and Central Americans and they stay to themselves and still do for the most part, but the Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and the Colombians that would come up this way would show a lot of love. What I will say is that more attractive and thick Latinas have been coming this way that are Central American and Mexican since 2014 and when I take my son to a local theme park in South Georgia all i see the young kids with are either white girls or hispanic girls. So the mixing is happening it just depends on your age and location.
I'm from NY, MV and BX. I have many PR and Blk cousins. I live in Los Angeles. Like BGS says Blk men want BLK women. Most of the time, if blk men look at other women. They usually have Black attributes. I'm really in the field from coast to coast. The West Coast is extremely different culturally, demographicly and geographicly than the East Coast. Yup, I was born in the Bronx & have a huge family. Several of my older female relatives married Black men. Now it's even more common, I'm w a BM & my cousins love & date BM (in Miami now). Caribbean Latinos (Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban-which is what we are) in particular have every shade of Cuban in our own families, moreso than groups south of the border. So it's not as big of a deal to get w a Black American man or island BM
I'm a Gen X and I grew up in Spanish Harlem(El Barrio in the building). My first Puerto Rican GF in Junior High School, I was her Thunderbolt. I've been rocking with them ever since. The only time that I didn't get down with them was when I got to School (Ohio State) and in the Marines. As the old saying goes: "It's Location, Location for what you want to have"

I had the opportunity to live with a 63 yr old Dominican mom, with a daughter and granddaughter, about 15 years ago. All in NYC. Interesting experience and got to learn a lot from mom, and saw the migration across 3 gens. So, I understand.
I'm confused about this reaction as well. As a Gen-Xer living in Brooklyn, NY in the 90's, I had a couple of Latina girls who dated me back then. Hell, I still know a Dominican girl who would have been fine being in a relationship with me but avoided it due to her mother being not OK with it. But like BGS said, that is the difference between first and second generation Latinos as well as across culture lines. Nowadays, Latinos and Blacks are as common as the sky being blue or water being wet. Sometimes you must divorce your personal experience from what is the truth. Reality will always be reality regardless. I think a lot of people just need to get out more.
I'm an older millennial.. based on the politics of the Bay area...it's been way more normal than even LA... My first GF were Nicaraguan and Mexicans... Of course other than blacks... But all of the Bay and northern Cali rock like that
Very interesting that you touched on this topic. I would have to say city, demographics, and timing play a huge part. Born and raised in Chicago, dated a Latina in high school (late 80's) College lived and worked in Memphis (90's) no Hispanics in city or region. Worked and lived in Atlanta (00's) very low Hispanic population during that period. Moved back to Chicago in the 10's, dated a number Latinas. I've traveled back to Memphis and Atlanta since 2020 the Hispanic population has noticeable increased to the point that areas that were known to be predominantly Black, are now mixed. Once people start living and working together, it's Inevitable. ✌🏾✊🏿💯
I'm Gen X. I was married to and exclusively dating Latinas. I can tell you speaking Spanish dramatically increases your chances with dating Latinas. There is colorist and phenotype preferences just like with American Blacks. You don't have to be light skin. You will have to be handsome, think Denzel, Trey Songz , Ray Allen, or Blair Underwood. They have a type. I'll be doing a show on this.

BGS is correct. I’m a millennial. Millennial & Gen Z black men experiences dealing with Latinas or Non-black women are vastly different from Gen X & Boomer black men. From my experience, starting in elementary school to college, I’ve dated Latinas. I've seen many (not all) black men in my age group date or married Latinas. I’m over six feet & well-built. A few Latinas would come on to me strong with their feminine behavior. My girl in my avatar is a Colombian woman who’s a lawyer in Colombia. She’s in her mid 30's. She is obsessed with me. She’s doing her best to keep me happy.

My main college girlfriend was Afro-Latina from Queens NYC. She chose on me... Another was Mestizo Puerto Rican... Now that I'm back in Chicago, it's common place. Mexicans used to avoid us but that's over. My neighbors are a Mexican family and the female has a dark skin brother from NYC as her live in boyfriend.
Its just like you said, its proximity. Im Gen X and I've dated them in high school and in my adult life. I work in a town in South Jersey and over half the town is black and Puerto Rican mixture.

I'm from Los Angeles and it is indeed flooded with Hispanics (Mexicans) out here. I think the word "Latina" creates a bit of confusion. Being that some one on the East coast is more expose to Latinas from PR, Cuba, Dominican Republic ,Columbia and Brazil etc. Where as the boarder states to Mexico; we are more exposed to Mexicans. I don't see too many Puerto Ricans or Dominicans out here as some one in New York or Miami would come across one. Our "Latinas" on the West Coast is much different than the East coast.
The analysis is on point. In Texas and Cali it is pretty normal and there is have a lot of cultural intermingling which along with proximity makes it easier to interracially date and marry. Boomers and Gen x were more dating out with ww and I am seeing that change more and more by generation to dating out with Latina women.
In my part of the country, most Latina women are pretty racist toward black men. Speaking from personal experience and what I've witnessed. I live in the southeast. It might vary elsewhere.
Just come down here to Miami, you’ll see 3-4 different couples of a bm and latina before you see a bm with a bw and its been like that as far back as I remember. I’m in my late 30s and if you talk to a lot of bm down here that didn’t grow up in super black areas, their 1st gf in middle and hs were some type of latina. I do realize miami is drastically different from other heavily latino places like LA, texas or nyc. We have Caribbean latinos like cubans, puerto ricans and Dominicans, central american latinos like mexican and south american latino like colombian n Venezuelan. Ya of course some are racist towards blacks but thats virtually every culture on earth but a lot and i mean a lot of them are open to dating bm or prefer bm and strictly only date bm

Im more caramel but also have some pretty dark relatives so marrying a BM isn't such a big deal. I think it is a difference depending on the group
I think your correct BGS but as more Wyt Men move towards them and the Latino Community gets more power, you could see a shift. It however will take about 20yrs.
It's so many Latinas that their men could care less who they marry . These dudes have good looking mothers, sisters and aunts that are beautiful. They are not hard pressed like black men.

I'm 36. It was too common when I was in high school; however, when it did happen, it wasn't a shock or surprise either. That's going on 20 years ago. Also, dark-skinned black males with quote-on-quote good hair fare better, as well as some mixed black men. However, if you are not from a culture, it's a little harder, and yes, Gen Z will be the big switch as well.

There were plenty of Latinas and some of everybody else too. If you were a Brotha that was Decent Enough Looking, Masculine, and Clean Cut, you got SOME PLAY from Chicks in just about EVERY GROUP. It has to be even better now. Mixing is INEVITABLE. And some of these young girls still look at dudes my age if we stayed in shape. You have from 21 to THE WALL on your Menu. You really don't need to spaz out. Just be patient. You got this. Bottom line is that BGS is right, not every Latina is going to fall all over you, but if you get your sh*t together, you can snag some of EVERYBODY, and a few might be Latina. I lived in Texas for 6 years and I see Black men with Latinas and white women all the time. But I see interracial dating more prevalent with the young Black boys. When I go to the mall or pass the local high school they all the young Black boys got a Latina on their arm.
Makes sense it's a gen x not understanding the growing trend. It was probably rare for this to happen and he's not keeping his finger on the pulse. Of course location, population size, country of origin and age play an important role in what happens. I'm from connecticut a few hours north of maryland with a similar population of latinos. The 1st gen there are not as open or are straight up racist. On a grand scale you wont see a noticeable difference in latina/BM relationships. However amongst my generation (millenials) there was a growing want and I saw it enough. As well as being told by multiple of them that they prefer black men over their own. It's not the majority but it's there and growing. 1st gen interactions really depended on country of origin. Mexicans were more friendly towards me than Peruvians or Ecuadorian. My friend's mother (Ecuadorian) decided she didn't like me on first meeting simply because I was black and he tells me about how she's racist. She even told him that he isn't attracted to black women when as far as I've known him he has always had an eye for them. The old heads are pretty adverse to us being around depending on their country. Now I moved to texas, houston specifically. Latinos are the biggest demographic here and are closing in on making 50% of the population. Unlike CT, the latin community is far less diverse with the most common groups being Mexicans, Salvadorans, and Guatemalans. All three groups in my experience have been extremely friendly towards me. 2 months after I moved here I was invited by an older coworker (Mexican) to come to her place for Thanksgiving. I didn't go because where I'm from no one does that kind of thing that quickly. Next time I saw her she was mad and told me to show up for christmas. So I pulled up and it was a great time, language barrier included. I've been invited to holidays, parties, birthdays and quinceaneras by that women consistently. She acts like a surrogate mother to me (I really can't explain how this happened lol) and regularly brings me food to work. I never ask her for it, she just does it. Everyone in her family including her husband like me a lot. Some of them even referring to me as family, since I'm always around. Outside of her, a decent amount have expressed varying levels of interest in me. One girl went as far to take me out and treat me to dinner. I started learning spanish while down here and the interested grew in the ones that were already interested and caught the interest in women I could now on a basic level communicate with. When I'm out I see black men with latinas regularly. Obviously it's not all but because latinos are the majority here some latinas will start spilling into the pool of black men. A lot of the ones I've spoken to told me they live or lived in predominantly black neighborhoods. They are much more acclimated to black people because of this. It's not a huge stretch. Again location, population, country of origin and age matter in what one will see in their day to day. It's not hard to understand. Gen z and gen alpha, this will be far more common place than my generation, but it will happen overtime.
As a gen x yes Latinas are checking for us. Latinas is a broad term so which Latinas are you talking about? I'm in the northeast. It's a different world

You can just look into black pop culture and tell the latina admixture is happening, let alone on the ground level. Something switched with latinas during the obama years, cuz back in the 90's it was rare for them to link with us, even though we lived in the same hoods, now, total flip.. somtimes i cant tell a latina from a black girl cuz they're look and style is so similar to bw now. Im in the jersey/philly area. I see far more hood ninjas with latinas now.

Admittedly, there are attractive Latina women, but the their men ( ex, brothers, uncle, fathers) don’t rock with us. Unless, they’re Afro-Latina, I don’t think it’s a good idea.
I’m gen z and mostly if not all my girlfriends have been latinas. All my my friends girlfriends have been Latinas too. There was also a trend of “black men beling to latinas” vice versa. These old dudes are too stuck in the past
The vast majority of BM prefer BW. Yes, but it seems like BM prefer only a small minority of BW. That's why dating and marrying out is appealing. There aren't enough of the preferred BW and there are plenty of women from other groups who can easily outcompete the non-preferred BW. The men of the other groups often outcompete BM for those women. Racial hypergamy. It's the preferred BM who cannot find a preferred BW, who have access to women of those other groups. The vast majority of BM simply don't have access, just as the vast majority of BW don't have access. Still, the numbers favor preferred BM.
I think your perspective is different coming from LA I understand the ad mixture concept being from New York and being in LA. LA is just little Mexico, I could blindfold you in LA and drop you in certain parts of Mexico and you wouldn’t know the difference
What you have to do is look for a BM, then look to see who he with. You can't just look for black and latina couple in the general population, of course you wont see a lot, cuz its not a lot of us.
We have to have some honesty if we're gonna have these conversations. There are two things that BM absolutely envy Latino men on and it's their patriarchal culture and women. If BM had the women Latinos have we would see more intact homes and happier men. This is just the facts. Let's keep it a buck.

As far as the "norm" as you put it, it's far more common now than it used to be. I've lived in L.A. since 1964. 10 years ago Black and Latina was weird. Now it's common. BM still overwhelmingly choose their own women. But, the shift is on. Arizona has been snow bunny heaven for BM for like 40 years. So your perspective is a little skewed.

Let me break down what I am saying. Step one this is not a Gen X conversation. Most Gen X men are out on a island by themselves when they are married to or have children with a woman out of their race a lot of the time. Millennial and gen Z with trade skills or a college education do not have issues getting with Latino women especially in Multicultural communities. This is the issue yall do not get. They are assimilating you if they want you. That is THEIR baby and your along for the ride. More likely in 18 year that child will get with a Latino woman completing your genetic annihilation or assimilation. When Black Women having babies with Latino men i that is still a black child with good hair that identifies purely with his or hers blackness. It's to different subjects. Times is hard. These days if a dude got bread, treats a woman like she is special and is willing to do anything for them she is going to that man. It's all about survival. That goes for all women no matter the race.
