This really resonates with me this week 😢 since getting into tarot I’ve spent a fortune buying decks that haven’t worked out for me. I haven’t gotten into debt and I’m not a collector, but it’s easy to fall into the trap of watching a walk through and chasing that ONE deck that you think will end them all 😂 tarot like everything else is commercialised now, it’s all about making money. I do think tarot tubers need to take a bit of responsibility for this. Sure we’re all adults and have autonomy, no one is forcing us to buy anything. However seeing constant videos of new decks, indie decks, kickstarters, walk throughs etc etc it all feeds this idea that we need more ‘stuff’ to be happy. I only have about 25 decks and if I buy a new one I have to pass one on. I hate the idea of having hundreds of decks just sitting not being used. One thing I always wonder about, are people actually ‘collectors’ or is this something we tell ourselves to justify our greed?! Just a thought. Cool vid as always.

I am a collector of new hobbies, which comes with lots of stuff. 3,000 bottles of polish later I realize I don’t even enjoy looking at nail polish anymore. It bores me. And I have decision paralysis. So I have given away a lot. Luckily I got into tarot at the tail end of my polish habit and can recognize the signs, thus avoiding them. I never use credit card for wants purchases, proud of myself for having that discipline. I refuse to go into debt for something so inconsequential. A strong gratitude practice keeps me rooted in reality.

It's definitely a blessing and a curse that online shopping is so prevalent and, frankly, so easy (particularly in the US). I wish I'd had the experience of getting to see all my favorite or interesting tarot decks in store or in a library, so that I could experience them without buying them. It's eye-opening to see how something looks and feels in my own hands, not just as it looks dressed up on someone's table with their decorations/aesthetic. Videos like this help realign me on my own de-consuming, de-influencing, de-materialistic journey. Thank you.

Sounds thoughtful and like you’ve made some sound decisions based on how you truly feel. Im similar, in that if something is overwhelming, no decision gets made. That 15min timer thing sounds like a good thing to try. I think i’ll do it this afternoon.
