We have lift off! Knocked me out of my socks and left them standing. Where do you see that kind of raw passion on stage in this day and age? Ridiculously good band.
Saw them at Hershey Park Arena in PA that same year. Blackmore threw his Strat about 20 feet in the air and caught it like it was nothing. Best rock show I had ever seen. Played almost 3 hours that night.
Ppl talk about the old Purple is better bla bla...i mean come on ppl! i have almost 50 and this gyus in 1972 they were what they are today. And in 1972 I was just born. So ... thank you Deep Purple for still existing and playing between us mortals !
Deep Purple during this era were at the top of their game bringing the heat, kickin' ass and blowing minds like it was nothing. Spellbinding and thoroughly enjoyable.
I love this Deep Purple performance and watch it often. Roger Glover - The DEEP PURPLE Mark II - bassist and all round good guy. Roger Glover should receive an award for the most humble man in rock. I have recently read a bunch of interviews on Roger Glover about DEEP PURPLE from 1970 until he and Gillan left the band in 1973. Glover stated that Purple in '72 toured 44 weeks out of a possible 52. the Eighteen month period from January '72 until about July 1973 was DEEP PURPLE's golden era.

Amazing when you think this happened back when we were young and kicking ass. I was in college, working, raising kids and barely had time to think let alone got to concerts. I never saw them live. Imagine my thrills and chills to sit here, an old lady now, rocking my brains out, full volume. Yeah, I could watch them as they are now cuz that's on youtube too. No thanks. Give me the full blast in the brain. That's what I want. What brought them together like this at their musical peaks? God only knows, but I'm grateful I'm here.
Saw them 15 years later at a Baltimore Club, it was free, warming up for a European Tour. I've seen a couple concerts back in the day when they were in there late 30s to mid Forties, tickets were not as expensive. My best concert ever, glad to here that, I know when I was 8, during this time, they were the bigest band in the world.
Desde que yo tenía 16 años me empezó a gustar música del rock hasta hoy que tengo 67 años esa música no la dejo de escuchar les mando saludos desde santocho city
Deep Purple doing what they do on stage in front of bunch of beautiful people on ACID, none of whom possess a cell phone. Did this world make a wrong turn or what?
It was such a subtle change. But, I never carried my cell around and never watched it non-stop. Probably cause I remembered when I never had one. Big difference in generations.
Hard to imagine how that made sense, as they were the highest grossing band at the time. If they hadn’t had a split and personnel change at that time, they would have been the household name... however, it wouldn’t make them better, they were so musically above most other hard rock bands. Not too many bands with talent levels like Blackmore and Lord in them.
Ya know how on occasion your partaking of some weed, and it hits ya up side the head and places you into a VERY high buzz. ...Then , you smile another one. Why another one, -I don’t know but it does happen. The happiest, surest way to way to resolve that state of mind is....? Smoke up all the weed u got and chill out and enjoy because Deep Purple is the greatest stoned jam band ever. -Your Welcome. Have fun. Spread the cure, PEACE
@@andyleibrook6012 "Yea, that's why BOC is still relevant today.".... Well they have been recording artists since 58.. So no.. Derp!!! How "relevant" are Pink Floyd, Rush, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, David Bowie or The Eagles "Today?" Fucking Idiot... Ask Santa for a clue this Christmas.... About Music.. Muppet...
Andy Leibrook... PS, Most of those names I mentioned I have seen live... Have you ever seen Bowie? Or MK2 Deep Purple? Or Rush? Or Pete Frampton? Or AC/DC? or Ozzy? Or Guns n Roses? Or Dio? Or Bad Company? Or Uriah Heep? Or Van Halen (with DLR) Or ZZ Top? Or Big Country? Or Blackfoot? Or Moterhead? Or Saxon? Or Accept? Or Gary Moore? .. Ect Ect...... Or Blue Oyster Cult?
10:15 Hilarious headbanging by Blackmore :-D Gotta love this band. The best lineup they ever head at their peak. Gillan singing is fantastic and Blackmore is still feeling it and cool as hell. Damn and everything in quite nice audio and video quality. How could anybody not dig this?
'Space Truckin': where was the line between Metal and Prog?--in those days it was all just music. Great to see a crowd getting excited like this, and with something truly to get excited about.
As great as it still is and was, it seems to be a time capsule, New York concerts and concert goers in the early 70's, remember it well. Nice to see the band and have a visual for the Made in Japan era!!! Thanks!
The video quality is unreal...the best cameras today couldn't do a much better job...the audio is really good as well...a totally professional company did this production...looks like it was made yesterday...not 45 years ago...
"FNews " .the audio is really good as well...a totally professional company did this production...looks like it was made yesterday...not 45 years ago..." Its because the music was from 45 years ago, not yeasterday... .. So it makes the whole thing seem better! :D "Rock N Roll!"
Best voice in rock history....uh best band in history (in my opinion) Altough Ritchie and Gillan hated each other, the shows where very very tight and very good
We all came out to Montreux On the Lake Geneva shoreline To make records with a mobile We didn't have much time Frank Zappa and the Mothers Were at the best place around But some stupid with a flare gun Burned the place to the ground Smoke on the water A fire in the sky Smoke on the water They burned down the gambling house It died with an awful sound Uh, Funky Claude was running in and out Pulling kids on the ground When it all was over We had to find another place But Swiss time was running out It seemed that we would lose the race Smoke on the water A fire in the sky Smoke on the water We ended up at the Grand Hotel It was empty, cold, and bare But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside Making our music there With a few red lights, a few old beds We make a place to sweat No matter what we get out of this Ha, I know, I know we'll never forget Smoke on the water A fire in the sky Smoke on the water
OMG! Blackmores guitarsound at that time was beyound magical!! So clean, but yet slightly overdriven, and he had a lot of sustain. Guess we'll never know how he did it, but it's possible to come close with the right pups, amp, guitar etc. But most important, he's sound was, and is, in his fingers ;-)
Custom Marshall amps helped (wayyyyyy higher output than usual, but very high maintenance), and he ran his Strat through a tape recorder (not recording) to fatten up the sound. He always used only the neck or bridge pickup at once, and his sig Strat has Seymour Duncan quarter pounders on it.
the best line up in my opinion. Gillan was a vocal genius , ,coverdale was good but didnt have his range. Smoke on the water, never fails, love the intro,,lead, lead, lead, symbol, lead, symbol, drum and then in comes Glover withe the bass,brillilliant..
I saw them on this same tour at the Long Beach Arena. I almost caught Ritchie’s smashed up Fender when he threw it to the crowd. Some other dude in front of us grabbed it and quickly tucked it under his coat for keeps. Oh well.
Btw, Gillan was at his peak around this period. Just listen to his raspy, "angry" voice during the first verse of SOTW. Fantastic!!! Well, considering he's very drunk in this clip ;-)
