I am a Red Sox fan. I respect and admire Derek Jeter on account of his capability, his track record, and his repute for being a class act. He is one of the most respected players in the game for a reason.

I'm a Phillies fan, but I really respect Jeter as a really nice guy and one heck of a ballplayer. He's really awesome.

I'm not a Yankees fan, but he's quite possibly the classiest ball player of our generation. Much respect for Jeter.

I'm a die hard Red Sox fan. I absolutely hate the Yankees, but I have an incredible amount of respect for Derek Jeter. Hell of a player, incomparable as leader, and as a person.

Maybe not the most talented in terms of skill-set- but definitely the classiest and maybe the greatest leader Yankee and Baseball history.

i dont like the Yankees but i got alot of respect for Jeter for what he's done for the game in the past decade. this is leadership by example, you dont see that in many players now a days.

His veteran presence is also a factor in how good he is, other players around him are better because of him. He's a class act and an example to players all around MLB. This is what makes him great on top of his already HOF numbers.

Everyone talks crap about Jeter, but he's not even that bad! Obviously, he's not the most gifted player in the world, but still, he's not as bad as everyone says! Go Jeter!

Not best in terms of skill-set...that would be Barry Bonds*, but if your talking about championship leadership on and off the field...he may be the greatest. His ability to rise to the occasion in November consistently over time is the one quality that sets him apart. Barry has the #'s, but Jeter also has legendary #'s- along with 5 rings. Integrity, Class, Humble, Unselfish, Respectful- Champion's Champion - True Professional.

This video always makes me emotional. Fighting back the tears right now. What he says speaks a lot about his character but what other people say about him is what makes him special. He is my role model and I want him to stay in the Yankees organization till he's 100.

I was just kidding around with my comment, but seriously, there is no way Jeter is top 20 all-time. He has a 69.3 career WAR, this will stay the same or go down a little bit before he's done. It would qualify for 83rd best ever. Very good, of course, but far from top 20 all-time. After Ripken and A-Rod, he might be the third best SS of the modern era.

Well, he is 38 years old. He was probably the best player in the years of late 1990's and early 2000's. Now, hes just between average ~ above average player.

I think you are not aware that even with the steroid cloud that will forever follow Barry, players, coaches, writers and analysts consider Barry the greatest to ever play in terms of his skill-set (tools)-- but yes I do agree with you- Derek's intangibles put him above Barry- and in a very selective group of legends in sports. Barry was too selfish to be a great leader, and his career reflects that with many individual awards----- and no championship ring. Barry- Great.. Derek- Greatness
