The irony with the Human Revolution "racism" controversy, is that the character wasn't written to speak that way. It was the idea of the black voice actress who wanted to portray the character that way. But some big fat white guy said its offensive to black people.
Everyone and their mother knows of BF, COD and TLOU but I get blank stares if I ask about Deus Ex. That and Invisible War was a brief but fantastic xb classic that did not get the love it deserved IMO.
The gameplay footage that was used to describe the game as Paranoid, Morose, Morally Ambiguous, and Atmospheric made me laugh my ass off. Double thumbs up to you good sir.
For someone who rages on Hentai and anime so much, you have a disturbingly large folder of hentai themed images... ...something you want to tell us, Mr.Fist? :D
***** That is quite true. Also I do hope you got that I was being jovial here :) It does create a funny paradox though that you point out your opinion on anime at regular intervals, and yet it's richly used through your reviews, that got a good chuckle out of me.
***** I get your point, however, I did not say anywhere that Fist hated anime, I cracked a joke about his position about anime not matching the imagery being used in his video's and so on. Course, he's not the one editing, and I did not remember that at the time.
He isn't going to actually hunt you down if you don't play it-- [door bell] Hang on, someone's at the door... [long pause] RazorFist here. Don't repeat the mistakes made by the singing corpse that used to be GammaWALLE. God fucking speed.
GammaWALLE Then find plenty of time to play it. My former classmates had opportunities to play the game on their own, but they were foolish by saying "no."
Tony Chang -wow, that was fast.- I've been prioritizing buying the stealth games recommended by Razorfist and what I've personally liked what I saw with playthroughs. As a result, I'm debating as to whether I should play my newly purchased copies of Splinter Cell (chaos theory and double agent), Deus Ex (GOTY edition and human revolution), and -don't judge me- MGS HD first. So far, the first two choices are the more likely as I'm not touching Metal Gear until I have at least the first (which I haven't bought yet), but on the other hand, Metal Gear's obnoxious cartoonyness might be just what I need to make my introduction to M-rated games as smooth as possible. Not planning on playing 4 or 5 though. Or any of the non-numbered besides Revengeance. I should not be saying this on a Rageaholic video. Sorry, Razorfist :(
Deus Ex is gaming's strongest series. Serious. _Deus Ex:_ Masterpiece. No question. 10/10. _Invisible War:_ Spectacularly underrated Cyberpunk noir, with a killer twist. 9/10 _Human Revolution:_ Directors Cut gives all the brilliance of the original, and irons out the awful bosses. No excuse to not play now. 9.5/10. _Mankind Divided:_ The densest, most elegant actioner in ages. 9/10. Give the Call of Duty shit a rest, or whatever Sony are belching out this month, and hunt down these games. You won't regret it.
For real, man. Invisible War was pretty damn good despite the environmental tone being a little too distant from the first. Great soundtrack too. I'm currently playing it again. I notice it's got a claustrophobic, hyper futuristic cheese happening while the first had gritty Y2K familiarity. Cool vid
Invisible war was so fucked up. I've attempted to play that game about 5 different times on 5 different platforms and computers. All of them had trouble getting the game started. The game really needs a reboot with the software.
+Paxton Gilmore I loved Invisible War. Sure, the tone was different but the gameplay and story was a continuation of the original, through and through. However... it had really tiny levels and long loading times between each to be able to squeeze it in on the XBox and that, I think, is what people remember the most from it If the PC version hadn't had those limitations then it would have been a great game.
Would it though? Even if I could get over what you said and that fucked up universal ammo system, the useles augmentations were kind of deal breaker. I'm intriqued to try again for story, but every time I remember that ruined augs , it makes me too sad to try..
I'm a youngion who was born in 1995, so I originally missed on Deus Ex. However, during my last year of high school I went through quite the conspiracy phase and came across the scene where Sarif tells Adam about the Illuminati. That fascinated me and made me eventually buy Human Revolution. After beating that game (and loving it) and owning it for a couple years I came across some videos that talked about the original Deus Ex. Embarrassingly, I didn't even know HR was the 3rd in a series and after finding out how easy it would be to run Deus Ex on my old PC I ventured into what would be one of the best games I've ever played.
I remember playing Deus Ex when it was released. I still can’t decide between it and Metal Gear Solid, which is my all time most loved game. Really appreciate this video Razorfist.
Haven't played Deus Ex, bring it the fuck on man! I'll take you the fuck down! ... Also while your hunting me down, would you mind bringing over a copy of Deus Ex so I can play it?
ИX Gangrel Ah, Valve doesn't need the money so much, GoG gives you refunds, has no drm, you really should give them your money whenever possible. Valve needs the competition.
holythirteenx1 You're very right. I'm only familiar with Steam, hence why I mention it. My copy of all the Deus Ex games are actually retail. As with most of my other games.
I like Invisible War. A Lot. In addition to the boss fights, one of my biggest criticisms of Human Revolution is that it is weighed greatly in favour of stealth gameplay. Not only do you get much more experience by taking down enemies stealthily, but also the difficulty levels have a negligible effect on a stealth playthrough.
I wholeheartedly agree with you on Invisible War. I enjoyed the hell out of it! I loved the music, atmosphere and I'm just a sucker for anything in the cyberpunk genre. I don't know if that's a character flaw on my part, but I don't really care.
What are you smoking? 😂 it’s shit. You dorks are hilarious. This guy is such a cheesy cornball of a RU-vidr, no wonder people doxxed him. They should call him Relic, not Rageaholic.
Thank you!! I thought I was the only one who loves Deus Ex: Invisible War 💞 I played the game so much that I figured how to play different factions against each other to maximize the amount of money and Augmentation Canisters. I also love the soundtrack and you can see the prophetic nature of NG Resonance on Social Media. Love the Music too!! Viva and Barnes sent me here! Great vid!
Fucking hell man, my ribbs are hurting so much any minute now I'm expecting them to crack and leave me a fucking pile of broken mass on the floor! *Soooo* fucking funny, and that jab at Jim Sterling has me rolling on the ground in laughter even today!!!
I remember it was one of the first games I got with my Xbox (gen1) as my PC was on the edge of outdated (loved playing Diablo, Starcraft and Starfleet Command, but Battlefield 1942 was a nightmare and that wasn't because of the bullshit default control settings when you plugged in a controller) The game was better looking and ran faster than most of my Friend's Rigs at the time, plus it was too much for their Computers. (Highschoolers aren't going to shell out $600 for the necessary upgrades when we got free shit from Coding Class) It was around that time that PC Mastercard (TM) Apes were engaged in the unending Trolling campaign we know today.. Good going guys, I was a PC gamer with an outdated Rig who manged to streamline enough processes to keep it viable one year longer than it should've and You pushed me into the Console Crowd. Anyway, I spent four years putting Devastating Viruses into critical files on Free Download Sites and I think we managed an actually "Trusted" site for I think it was a Diablo "Complete Edition". Judging from Comments left by Angry Users.. we made an impact on some folks. Seems that trend didn't die down cause basically nobody trusts a free download or Pirate Game without Quarantining the thing for 24hrs.. You can thank the Coders they pissed off by being Basement Dwelling Elitists, we were kids with no money and a cheaper alternative you decided to shit on.. Hope they liked getting a Rig Bricked
THANK YOU!!! I thought I was the only one who liked Invisible War. I mean it's my least favorite in the series but still packed with way more solid content than most games on the market. I dumped a lot of time into that game and don't regret a single second. I even spent hours in the Tarsus Facility basketball court using a glitch on the unconscious bodies of the Order Church raid team to freeze them midair and make it look like they were in the middle of an NBA dunk contest. ...man I had way too much time on my hands when I was a kid.
Oh man, this made my day today! And xRazorFistx, I LOVED your review style. I agree with every tiny bit of that review. Keep headbanging and keep pwning.
Thank the Rageaholic for dry-humping one of the most influential video game franchises ever even though he'd rather go to town with the equally awesome original Thief from the late 90's. To this day I still remember Deus Ex because of the story, the music, and the decent set of solutions to whatever was in the player's way. Even the game's bugs and glitches made the franchise fun. Here's hoping that guys like the Rageaholic will merge with Helios someday because perhaps they might do a better job at running the world. I could go on, but others have already done that.
Thank you RazorFist. I had no idea what I was going to do this weekend, but I found this video and noticed that the Deus Ex collection is on sale on Steam right now. I bought Human Revolution along with the DLC ( bought the other two last year) and it's brilliant so far. Keep up the good work man!
Very entertaining retrospective, I wouldn't rate Invisible War quite as high as you did but I still enjoyed it and as an added bonus discovered one of my now favourite bands Kidney Thieves.
When I first played Deus Ex Human Revolutions when I was 14...I fucking hated it because I had no Idea what the fuck I was doing... Fast forward 2 years I decided to give it another shot... Nearly split my skull open from how stupid I was 2 years perviously. Thank god I didn't sell it, nearly impossible to find a physical copy in Australia now days.
Played it, beat it. Loved every second of it, right down to the locals and an item management system that more games need, the way levels can handled in multiple ways, and even the hacking which thankfully wasn't some "hold X to hack" but an actual fleshed out minigame.
Deus Ex 1 was a fantastic game. I had so much fun killing the Illuminati's ultimate death machine, Simons, by literally putting a ton of bombs on the door and just luring him past it.
I have been a fan of yours for some time, and glad to have found your channel again after a large absence. A glitch I remember being present on the original Deus Ex was when the scientist/hacker dude gives you an augment canister later in the game, if you have a full inventory when he does so, they keep stacking up. Dragging with a right-click would put a 2nd layer to your inventory over the first, and allow you to carry more. I'm not sure if right-clicking and dragging outside the inventory was an actual method in the game or a fortunate consequence of having a full inventory at that part of the game. As Mankind Divided approaches I hope the series matches the heights that Human Revolution restored it to, although the epilogue chapter of that game was a massive letdown after an amazing beginning, middle, and less so climax... Mankind Divided's story seems to be getting the precursory knowledge of transhumanism well out of the way and focusing more on the dystopia following a possible singularity, but I am glad to see them continuing Adam Jensen's storyline. (possible SPOILERS from Human Rev / Deus Ex:) The allusions to Icarus in previous trailers of Human Revolution had me thinking the story was going to head a different direction than it ultimately did, and after seeing early footage of Mankind Divided I think they will continue that story arc (as far as Jensen possibly becoming AI (Icarus) of the original, perhaps as a digitized consciousness of some kind. I was thinking they were going to have Adam Jensen ascend as a conscious AI in a satellite or something hence the aerial allusions of the AI's name as well as the footage of Jensen in an early trailer rapidly ascending. I always confused Warren Spector as being the composer of the original, not the creator. I applaud Mccann's soundtrack to HumanRev quite a bit for several of its tracks. I have very limited experience with the second entry or the series, but didn't even play it until much after its release and thought it showed more signs of age than not. All this "TL:DR" aside, I'm a big fan of the series and stoked to see them continuing it one way or another, though as more entries are tallied onto it, I fear it may head the way of MGS / Star Wars in becoming too prevalent to remain as a singular set of classics...
I played Invisible War before the original and could not see the huge differences folks insisted existed between the games, making the sequel so much worse. Folks were impressed greatly by the original because it had no predecessor and their standards were raised for the sequel so it struck them less. The only other complaint might be how the 3 endings are fused together but I found that solution elegant. Otherwise you'd need three shorter IWs.
Ever since RazorFists's Deus Ex: Human Revolution review I have wanted to play Deus Ex. Thanks to the other comments and Steam I now know that Deus Ex is on sale until June 25. I can't wait to try out the series. Yet another great retrospective by RazorFist, as always.
The original Deus Ex is one of the greatest games ever made, never will we see a product written and produced in such a way in this modern gaming market and culture.
New coming to watching your videos, and I gotta thank you from the bottom of my heart that you didn't rip Invisible War to shreds. I was one of the few that didn't hate it from the start and to this day I still hold it on grounds as "Not as good as the first but still pretty good on its own merits", again there was no way it was going to be Deus Ex 2: The Return of JC Denton. But it is no where near one of the worst games or the worst sequels of all time that some say it is. Granted it is only one other person on the planet besides me that holds that belief but hell I will take that.
"Some people speak like a Zatarains commercial fucking deal with it" haha first video I seen of your work and its delightful. You have my subscription. 👍
First game is amazing and more deep than HR....But it's also really clunky. As much as I think the first game was the deeper game, I prefer HR just because it smoothed out all the kinks.
I played Deus Ex 1 a few months before DXHR was released, and I was blown away by how well DX1 aged; not because of graphics, but because of gameplay. If you thought DXHR was awesome (and it totally was), you'll be pleasantly surprised by how open and customizable DX1 is. And then when I got around to playing DXHR, I was overall very pleased with the improvements they made, like streamlined combat. I did miss the GEP Gun, though...
I want to like this video multiple times. Hell, all the likes I've ever given anything, I want to give to you for STANDING UP FOR INVISIBLE WAR, AN AWESOME GAME THAT IS TRULY UNDER-APPRECIATED.
I'm a first time viewer and it is the first video I saw from you so I have to say I dig the esthetic of the visuals and the rythm of voice. Speaking of the visuals take a shot every time you get a reference in the pictures then take a alcochol test and the result is how many internets you won.
Deus EX aged well, and so did this review. What would be a word that describes an 8 year old retrospective? For that matter, what would be a word that describes playing a game in 2020, from 2000, that envisioned the cyber-dystopian 2020's?
It's really too bad that Invisible War won't work on most modern computers, and THANK YOU for being one of the only people to agree with me about Invisible War being a great game and the Deus Ex series as a whole being a masterpiece
42,788 people have re-instaled this game. It is a shame why more people don't play these games as much as Call of Duty. Now YOU can't say that Call of Duty is bad, because you don't like First Person Shooters. I have played them, & compaired to Old-School FPS like Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein & PAAAAAAAAINkiller: I think that Call of Duty is Fun. They're STUPID AS *HELL*, but their Fun, & as long as the Fans & audionce is having FUN, then the game will Sell & continue to make MILLIONS. It is just a shame that Deus Ex can't have the same audionce as Call of Duty.
I had to ask, which one should i get. Deus Ex console or Deux Ex pc. I found out that i haven't played it yet, i palyed invisible war and fucking loved it. But seriously reply, which one should i get.
It's hard but with the right skill point allocation and augs you can breeze through the most difficult areas. Radar transparency + move silent + x-ray vision thingy + pistol skill and mini-crossbow + max computer/lockpicking/electronics makes you godlike in stealth.
I rented Human Revolution and returned it within the first two minutes because I got killed my the VERY FIRST two enemies in the beginning. Should I give it a second chance? Even though entire color pallet is gold, I feel I was a bit too harsh.
Hey Razorfist, I was hoping either you or any strapping rageaholic can help me. I got the Deus Ex sale bundle not too long ago and whenever I try to launch Deus Ex or Invisible War I get an error that says "Failed to find Steam." Is this simply a matter of uninstalling and re-installing or is it a matter of my computer having a certain processor or what? I'd really appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
I'm curious as to your opinion of Alpha Protocol, it felt a lot more to me like a successor to the original Deus Ex than either of the official sequels.
I know a magazine that rated the first Deus ex just 8. The reason? "This game looks cool just because once the player goes on, he recognize elements that he saw in the past connecting them". This is named: Fucking good storytelling! The rearers went mad until the release of the sequel.
I bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution because of your review, recommended it to a friend as well. We both loved the game. So yeah, he's right here, play these games or else you may as well not live anymore.
Hey Razorfist I've been wondering. I've seriously been considering buying the GOTY edition of deus ex 1 off of steam. I'm really intruiged by the permice and I'd really like to play an openly approachable FPS game. But I've heard some people talking about how the old engine barely runs on new computers. Did you have any problems playing this game or did it all check out for you?
Well well either its a coincidence or sheer brilliance but this was perfectly in the eye of a Deus ex steam sale. Well done Razorfist well fucking done.
Deus Ex is my favorite game of all-time. I've played hundreds of games over the years but nothing has come close to being like the experience of playing Deus Ex. Invisible War wasn't as good but it was still a great game IMO. Human Revolution really impressed me with how much it captured the spirit and feel of the original Deus Ex but also incorporated modern gameplay elements. I really hope a 4th entry in the series comes in the foreseeable future.
I did enjoy the sound track of Invisible War. It seemed like a legitimately interesting game. I got a bit out of amusement out of finding out I could change the ammo usage amount for each difficulty in a darned text document. Although, I think the resource hog is even worse on modern computers. Shit when I tried to play the god damned game after buying it on Steam and GoG, I had to lock the game to a single core cause it flipped out over the fact processors could have more than one. That and every load change the game locked up, took ages to load the level and on top of that opened a brand new process instance of the game for the level being loaded and didn't have the concept of killing the previous one. I just wish the sentiment that its a good but flawed game spurred people to create an Unofficial Patch to fix these kinds of issues like the games Vampire the Masqurade: Bloodlines got and on top of that every god damned Bethesda game starting from Oblivion onwards.
Xbox was the first Console Developers realized (or Microsoft informed them) could Run an overtaxing program more efficiently then a common PC (not some $X,000 supercomputer) This meant out of the Box performance was better than most PC's at the time.. This pissed off PC players who were used to being babied and the focus of Devs. With Gen 6 coming out I predict massive time differences between the First Console Release and the Backburner PC releases. (partially due to bad exposure from Game Journos over Porn Modz.. Well done, played yourselves and forced the path of "Approved" Modders. Basically Fuck the PC Basement Dwellers who fucked all us gamers over)
Razorfist, if that's a your cornucopia, then before warned that i coming to thanksgiving next this year.nice video, i am play Deus ex right now for the first time, it took a little to get use to it but just great.
I'm very interestend in what you could say about Valkyria Chronicles - my favorite game of all times beside HL. Did you play it? Despite being my favorite, I know you would do a great review
Funny story, last year i discovered that my cherished childhood memories of playing what i thought was Deus ex were actually memories of playing Deus ex invisible war. Turns out I fucking love that game and have never played the original......
