Been using this stuff for years. I have 26 cats and 4 dogs. Takes care of fleas. Never had any issues coughing or noticing my animals coughing or any adverse effects. The stuff you’re breathing in is no more dangerous than regular dust in the air or cat litter dust. The chemical companies who sell their treatments for insane amounts of money have a lot to lose if people use this stuff. And none of us are going to live forever. I’d rather live without fleas for 30 years than live with them for 50. The bites and the allergic reactions on my animals is heartbreaking.
@@lilianagoda7015 Just sprinkle some in your hands and let them. It’ll get on their coats. Get the food grade stuff so when they ingest it, it will also kill internal parasites.
The question isn't whether this poster has fleas, but rather how old the cats & dogs are in the end. Are the dogs coated in DE as a flea preventative living to 20+? If not, what's shortening their lives? Is the DE cutting a few years off?
The article this lady linked is about miners who MINE crystalline silica dust and the issues appeared to result from "cumulative exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust". They used a 10 year exposure lag in the research. This hardly seems like it can be generalized to people who occasionally use diatomaceous earth to treat fleas on their pets.
Very informative, here in the UK we're expecting a plague of bedbugs, they've already spread rapidly in some towns and cities. Diatomaceous earth has been found to be very effective against bedbugs along with steaming, I would recommend using a mask and changing your clothes after use and vacuum daily using a cleaner with a hepa filter. I'd also recommend using an air purifier, I only spent £50 on mine and it collects loads of dust.
My fiancé and I used food grade diatomaceous earth twice and it was the one solution that worked to stop the flea cycle. We spread it in the cats litter and all over furniture and floor. We had masks on when we did it and kept the cats away until it settled. Its been years since and no issues or complaints at all. My only fear was breathing it in before it settled.
Yes that would be my fear, too. I am glad to hear it worked out for you guys. Did you vacuum it up before letting the cats back in or did you just leave it there once it had settled?
My only concern is that if I place this in the kitty litter, the cats will disperse some into the air inside the litterbox and they will breathe it in.
You all are over worrying. DE is not gonna harm you or your pets from occasional use. If it was that DANGEROUS, there would be a warning on the packaging and some one would have reported an Injury to themselves or the pet. The fact that no one has on America where medical court cases are a dime a dozen should tell you something. Sadly in the pet medical industries everyone is always bashing others products and try you to scare go into using their own products and leading the way is always bashing any natural use for a cure go on amazon pick any pet product, natural heck even medicated. You will see tons of reviews where they tell you my God don’t buy this product my pet died the next day... all of them!!! Sadly money has ruined everything,
I wanted to worm my cats with DE. I would mix it in their food, but they refused to eat it. So, I got the idea to mix it into chicken baby food and smear it onto their fur. It worked great. They immediately ingested it by licking it off their fur. But, what happened to my surprise is that doing it that way also got rid of all their fleas! I couldn't believe it. I guess that in the process of their licking, it was distributed through their fur. And, there's obviously no dust flying around either.
Oh no, I’ve heard you can mix it in with food, maybe wet food or I don’t know what, but it can take care of parasites that way if the cat or pet ingests it? The food grade for sure. But I also heard it doesn’t work when wet either. So I don’t understand really.! But peope def swear by it!!
So, in other words, as long as you use food grade DE, you'll be fine...which is exactly what those who recommend its use say. Making videos that make it seem like you have something new to say when, in reality, you don't makes you look duplicitous and manipulative. Clickbait may get people to click on your videos once, but it doesn't keep them coming back.
All though I respect your knowledge and profession ...the proof is in the farmers and pet parents that have been using it forever. Like every medicine there is a possible side effect. Its all about what is the risk and reward for its use. Use it correctly and using it as sparingly as to be effective. Just like anything else.
I'd say compared to the seizures my setter had from the pharmaceutical chemicals that attack the nervous system applying DE outdoors with pets head upwind, using care to keep it away from nose & eyes it is a much better alternative. Study was wrt miners who had a lot of exposure.
I believe you should really broaden your research before such claims. I mean that well. Like maybe several articles supporting that one claim. when I just get an article and it has not been vetted to substantiate it's claims then I take it with a grain of salt. there's way too much biased info on the internet especially with random articles. if it were a legitimate scientific study then I'd consider it. But I never blindly believe articles or claims unless I've done extensive reach on the claim of topic. Also, it's good to add links as goes for the writer of the specific article. I mean no disrespect by any means. I'm just saying we have to do better because this is why we have become what we have.A bunch of know it all's who don't know sh*t.
I Love❤️ DE Food Grade & have been using it for the past 4 years with no problems to myself or my two Cats. I put two tablespoons in my Large Fruit Smoothie every morning & drink down. And have had nothing but positive effects. Stronger Hair & Nails, plumps the skin on my Face, pulls out bad stuff from my body like a detox, works to dry up bug bites and pull blemishes off of your skin. I also mix it in my Cats Wet Food and coat their treats from time to time with it, while also making sure they have Plenty of water to drink. I have seen an increase of their BM's more frequent and larger like it helps to clean thei colon out too. Definitely deworms. And, I do put it on their Fur from time to time to help ward off fleas & ticks. But 1 more thing. There is Another kind of Flea that can get on both Humans & Pets that is less common & less known & it is called a Springtail Flea or Snowflea. Now if you Listen to Science & Vets they will say this is Impossible but I don't Listen to Science & I dont Hang on every word a Vet says. Because I know first Hand, Springtails can & will burrow into both pets & Humans Skin. And it's an Awful Annoying thing when it does. And, it may be that originally Springtail fleas never got on people or pets, but then later evolved to do so or maybe mated with the Scabies Mite? Who knows how or why , i just know it exists! And theirs a whole Internet World out there thar says so too! Its usually googled as "Colembola" And that is what Lead me to DE. Actually, I know God Lead me. And it has been the #1 thing to help Conquer this problem! In fact, it is the Only thing that is exterminating it off my Cats Safely. It Dries Out the Exoskeleton body that Springtails have. So, as you can see, I'm a BIG BELIEVER in Food Grade DE.❤️😁
No she would rather you use harsh chemicals so your pets can have organ failure in the future I have asthma I accidentally pick up the bag food natural de not knowing the bag was open the Dustf flew in my mouth didn't cause any problems to me
I don't use for my pup (yet), but I did get rid of carpenter ants that had found their way in from the outside of our home. I take it myself (in plain yogurt) as a binder as I have Lyme and it helps remove the bacteria and killed off waste from the body.
this makes me depressed. I can't get rid of the fleas.... I'm a full time college student working 40 hours a week, and everyday I spend hours vaccuming every corner of the apartment, combing fur (only when they're asleep), washing and drying every piece of fabric- 2 times a week we give flea baths. I'm exhausted, and I honestly am overwhelmed. Diatomaceous earth is looking really good right now... :(
The little lights with the glue pad under it works much better than I expected. I use Damascus Earth too but not on my pets. It feels like fiberglass insulation when I get it on me.. I'm afraid it'll irritate their skin
@@MicolAndOtherAnimals Terro is the brand. Just Google flea trap and see if it shows up. I've had awesome luck with them. I had one room that was full of fleas. I tried many different sprays and nothing worked. There was no carpet or pets in that room..I had no idea where they were coming from. I put one of these in there and it was almost completely covered in a couple of days. Lowe's and home Depot have them if there's any near you..
@@Bryan-Hensley this is great Bryan, thank you. I haven’t had problems in this sense (yet, fingers crossed 🤞) but your comment is now here and others can find it when they need it ☺️
The food grade one is safe, she doesn't differentiate between them. The crystalline one is the second form and isnt food safe. Use the food grade and youll be fine.
When you look at pouring hard core pesticides directly into our pets skin for flea and tick control or all the other chemicals used in daily life it seems so mild.Vets don't like using anything organic like oils etc .I put it all around my base boards when flea season was sooo bad and it worked...just an inch wide...all the fleas like to go there.
Thank you for a science-based enquiry into the use of diatomaceous earths. It’s possibly as damaging as asbestos so it warrants looking further into this question. I’ve liked and subscribed.
Been using this for years. I see bugs and everything gets dusted. Works. All grains are coated with it before they go to market. Everyone eats it all the time.
I got Revolution from my vet. First two days; no change. Then started seeing dead fleas on my cats. Now my cats are my "flea collectors". One bite and the fleas are dead before they can breed the next generation. Luckily I caught the infestation early. Revolution is pricy but probably worth it in my case. As for DE, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
Thank you for the video. I have used D.E. on several occasions to tackle flea problems. I am using the food grade version, but I don't know the crystalline content. In all the times I've used it, I have seen no ill effects on myself or my cats. Regardless though, I apply the DE close to the source to minimize dust. Once the DE has settled, dust will be minimal. I have in every use applied the DI directly to my cats. The only thing I have seen is the dust being an irritant to the eyes. For people like yourself who have dust allergies, I would recommend wearing a mask while applying the DE. On a positive note, the DI has worked incredibly well even in extreme flea infestations, with total elimination in about 3 days. One last tip:) to get rid of the DI powder once done, use a good vacuum cleaner with the appropriate particle size HEPA filter. This will not only clean without creating dust, any remaining live fleas will die in the sealed vacuum bag.
I have asthma I've had asthma since I was born I use it it doesn't bother me a bit suggest even flew in my mouth so I guess it's safer to use harsh chemicals that damage your cat's organs Through Time instead of trying to do something natural and being just careful as safe with it decisions yours keep on using those chemicals you're so freaking brilliant and flea medicine can cause organ damage and death
Yes flea meds are really no great, and there’s so many other natural options that work really well. Thai one is not for us, but if you check our other videos we talk about what we use! Thank you for sharing!
You’ve been fear mongered by anti-big pharma. She clearly didn’t wanna show bias towards you but I have no issue doing it. How exactly does it ruin their organs over time? Especially if you’re only using it for one treatment cycle. And when you say damage organs, what exactly do you mean? How much length of life do you think your animal is losing by using mainstream products? Your dog will probably use 3 minutes off their lifespan. Less than that. 9 times out of 10 you’ll put your dog down early anyway due to other illnesses. I understand there’s harmful products, but you can’t link them all together just because they have “chemicals” because some of those chemicals that could be a harmful RARITY to one’s animal, they’ve saved thousands of other animals lives, even if it shortened their natural lifespan. Don’t be a sheep to anti-big pharma/corpa. You’ll end up a sheep no differently than the ones that put full support
Thanks for making this video. I had a bad experience, so I won't use Diatomaceous Earth anymore. I used it for about a year. I sprinkled it behind furniture and under area rugs. I also mixed it with water in a spray bottle and sprayed it along the outside parameters of my house. After about 6 months of this, I started having breathing problems, and 2 of my cats were diagnosed with asthma. I throughly cleaned the house, had the rug professionally cleaned, got an air purifier, and now vacuum daily. My cats and I are still having breathing problems. I don't know if we will ever be the same. About the time I purchased the air purifier, was about the same time I stopped using the Diatomaceous earth. I also switched all of my cleaners and personal hygiene items to unscented. I got rid of my essential oils and candles. I don't know what else to do to prevent the asthma attacks.
Used Advantage on my cats but one has a really, really bad reaction where he looked like he was under sedation and took 2 days to recover. I'm going the natural route to see if it works. I have air filters and am definitely much less worried about silicosis vs using neurotoxins.
I didn't use it on my cats but I used it on baseboards in my apartment under furniture etc.... The food grade kind and then I brought up articles saying it causes lung damage and I'm nervous because for one I applied it wrong I didn't wear a mask and I applied it with my fingers to baseboards , and I've had a headache, dry eyes, my ribs feel weird. My cats seem fine though thank God. Should I leave it or clean it up with soap water
You are not the only one. I remembered the steps incorrectly for application and started rubbing it into the carpet with my feet to help spread it in the deep carpet fibers 😅. I only began to question my method when I saw dust in the air lingering. I told my daughter to run out of the room when I realized. So far we feel fine but I am worried
You just need to be sensible about the dust. Much better than the toxic stuff. My cat is much calmer after I apply it and doesn’t seem irritated. Are you aware pesticides are linked to the skyrocketing rates of Parkinson’s disease?
You do know that there are different grades of DE? The second grade is the crystalline you speak of, it isnt the safe food grade one. Also with the miners and black lung, again there are differnt grades The food grade one is perfect safe. Plenty of resources to say such
Of course. My question is, how can I be sure that there is no crystalline DE in the food safe one I purchase? Since the particles are very small, I cannot, which is why I choose not to use DE. 😉
What is the smallest micrometer you found? Typically deposition up to the thoracic region is between 4-10 micrometers (in a human)and is dependent on respiration tracts ( dogs and humans deposit different sizes differently).
The issue I have is lack of QC on the products you buy. Thankfully, there’s a lot of natural, effective, non-toxic tick and flea remedies available, so I can feel comfortable skipping DE while still not overusing pesticides!
We FIRST tried DE on carpet and dogs and ooh what a mess, and we had to repeat. THEN we had heard about putting a pinch in the water dishes. We have 4 dogs , who are mainly indoors. This trick worked like MAGIC!! No dust. We only put a pinch of DE in the water dishes during flea season. M A G I C !!!!!!!L!
I don't fully understand diatomaceous earth, but does this sentence from that article mean food-grade DE is relatively "safe" for inhalation? "Occlusion of the potentially toxic crystalline silica surface by an amorphous matrix or other minerals and impurities in the crystal structure are suggested to pacify toxicity in these samples." Food-grade diatomaceous earth is supposed to be 98-100% amorphous. The stuff I bought, Harris Diatomaceous Earth, is supposedly 100% amorphous DE and has a median particle size of 10 microns according to them in a reply to someone who asked the question on their website. I also don't fully understand how it can be effective at killing fleas if it relies on being a tiny sharp particle to kill them. Does that mean it's just not effective at killing them or it's still bad to breathe? Seems contradictory.
I've used DE food grade for bugs in my apartment and it works great. However, I've used it on my cats, but I still observe them scratching. Now that I've see your video, I won't be using it on my babies any longer. Thanks for the information.
Thank you for sharing! I am glad my research was useful 😊 I have used an awesome product this past summer against ticks and fleas, I’ll be sharing that video next week! Stay tuned ☺️

The problem may not be fleas. Don't over use as it can be drying to skin. Occasionally is just fine. Your Cat may have ear mites it which case a small dollop or warmed Coconut oil in the ear will kill them with a couple of applications. This woman is very wrong about it when used properly.
"The excess lifetime risk (to age 85) of mortality from lung cancer for white men exposed for 45 years and with a 10 year lag period at the current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard of about 0.05 mg/m(3) for respirable cristobalite dust is 19/1000 (95% confidence interval (95% CI) 5/1000 to 46/1000). Conclusions: There was a significant risk of mortality from lung cancer that increased with cumulative exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust. The predicted number of deaths from lung cancer suggests that current occupational health standards may not be adequately protecting workers from the risk of lung cancer."
" The silicosis and related problems can potentially occur 1) after chronic effects, i.e., chronic exposure; 2) when the silicon dioxide/silica material contains high percentages of crystalline silica; and 3) in the workers mining DEs and related materials."
Great video, I don’t use it for flees it can be consumed one teaspoon into a half glass of water great for joints etc but dry form is bad for the lungs.
@@MicolAndOtherAnimals welcome, I use it myself few times per week I had a sore knee it fixed it took the pain away , I take this morning time also please never heat this as it crystallises and losses its benefits and my dogs would take it 2/3 times per month kills worms. I never use this dry because it’s bad for the lungs always use wet in water juice or milk. Diatomaceous earth helps flush out heavy metals from the body and other toxins. I think it’s great 👍 take care and keep up your awesome work 👏😁🙏
There are also way too many blogs and website attesting DE positive effect to base usage on her one opinion... That's what it is... An opinion and a biased one because it's not from experience but by other opinions
Hi! Did you watch the whole video? 🤔 I mention that I researched DE because I had heard conflicting opinions about this. Ultimately, this is my choice for my animals, but I did ask for feedback from those who used it successfully, because the more we know, then better we se for our animals, and ourselves. 😉
ive used it and it seams to be the cheapist safeist and most effective method of controling bugs and flees compaired to sprays just use a mask and air rooms out after you use it, i have a fan facing out a window to create an exhaust flow in the room also it will clog up computers and electronics so make sure they have air filters or are sealed and turned off or make sure the dust is cleaned out breathing it in is similer to plaster dust so yea use a mask when using it on pets do it outside and make sure not to go near there eyes or head much you can use a flee collar for that part.
Well this video was useless, I use food grade DE, I’ve had the same organic container for years. Because a little goes a long way and my cat prefers it to baths & drops.
Thank you for sharing! I knew many people were dead set against it, but I thought I would keep an open mind.. so I am glad I did all the research. There are better options out there 😊
Absolutely ☺️ I’ve got a few. First of all, check out my roundup video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tFUBzRgMPeo.html) of EVERYTHING that is available. I personally use an amber collar (video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p0TVkVHenoM.html), neem oil based shampoo and spray that I make myself (video + recipes here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nJZmxNEk0Lo.html) and this past summer I bought and tried the ultrasonic Tickless Tag and loved it, so it’s going to be a new staple for us (here’s my review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MKTrQGNBocc.html) and I may also get the plug in version for my house (they have it against fleas but also against dust mites!). I hope that helps and gives you a few more options. I have a couple more videos on the topic, but those should get you started 😊
this dust cannot be breathed in ..this is dangerous. may also cause skin irritations or more. WE have to cover our noses, imagine your pet? that woman did not cover her dog while sprinkling.
@@MicolAndOtherAnimals lol different strokes for different folks. I personally find it endearing. I recently found your channel and have been on a binge. You are very knowledgeable and your videos are very well put together.
We have flea issue in our house, but my wife is pregnant. Do you guys know what method is safe for pregnant woman? I used spray so far but not very useful, and I worried about the safety for using it too.
You need to go to website that has testimonials of it's positive results. Of course you need to be careful when putting it on just like anything else. However if you have a weak respiratory system I would use something else. So I don't think she did enough research... Or used it. This is why I go by testimonials goes it's from the horses mouth
Now you can't use on pet directly but I'll give you the cheepest way to kill fleas and most eggs in your house and floors and carpets. Go to store buy 3 reg boxes salt ..round containers and sprinkle them all over floors and carpet let stand for at least 24 hours up to 3 days vacume and sweep up and your flea problem should be gone. Wait 2 days and repeat for survivers or eggs that hatch and didn't dry up. . I've renovated houses that as soon as you step in your legs are covered. This trick has always worked for me had to do it twice several time but have had it work after first treatment also... I try and leave 3 days. It grainny to walk on but does the trick. Works on Furniture too.
